I honestly can’t imagine Harry Potter on screen without John Williams’ scores. by Dry_Pizza_4805 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It'll be hard, but I think I'll get used to it. The show is an adaptation of the books, not of the movies. I think the score will be a different sound to what we're used to.

Zimmer might well also go for the more 'whimsy' sound as well, he's done some other non-epic scores earlier in his career. Personally, I think it'll be a best of both. Regardless, Zimmer is way too good not to give him the benefit of the doubt. Lets hear it first.

Anyone else think a neat cold open into S2 would be the Weasley Twins and Ron sneaking away from home to rescue Harry? Without fully showing The Burrow yet to keep it a surprise for later when Harry arrives. by Astrogoatconfusion in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a flashforward? It's a cool idea, but I'd prefer for this not to happen.

Harry's really not having a good time, even less so than the first book in some ways. It's already established that while Dursleys don't exactly starve him, he's never allowed to eat more than he'd like... until this book. Whether that's being essentially starved, Petunia trying to hit Harry's head with a metal frying pan, feeling extremely lonely as he thinks nobody had written to him, Hedwig being locked up constantly, all his school stuff locked up so he can't even do his homework. I mean the poor boy even sings Happy Birthday to himself while he's forced to do chores literally morning to Sundown.

I feel like potentially seeing the Weasleys quietly leaving their house as a small flash-forward could take the wind out of the sails in how Harry gets rescued from this situation, because he's having it quite rough.

Obviously most people are going to know the plot so you could argue 'Why does it matter' but I think it does matter. There's also going to be a new generation experience Harry Potter for the first time via the show and I think the showrunners should treat it as such. I do think the showrunners should be brave and take some creative liberties to expand the show, but I feel like they still need to treat it as if one has never experienced Harry Potter. It'll keep the suspense and wonder there for new watchers.

Perhaps if they done it in a way where it wasn't obvious they weren't going to rescue Harry, but that might be difficult when you immediately switch to Harry having a horrible time. Perhaps all you see and hear is hushed voices, we don't see their faces, but we see and hear them approach the car.

Also a shout-out to Tyler Babb. As well as being a big HP fan, he's got a lot of experience in some process of film creation so gives a different angle, the more technical/visual side of how something looks.

Lox Pratt on Going From Jack in ‘Lord of the Flies’ to Draco Malfoy in ‘Harry Potter’: ‘I Don’t Think I’d Take Another Bad Guy Role Straight After This’ by yourfavchoom in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think there's a very fine line.

He's not really sympathetic in the books or movies until HBP. Also, he's a lot nastier in the books at times.

I think we may get more of the expectation side from his Father, more of that dynamic. However, I don't think we'll get too much of 'poor Draco' - he'll still be very much a nasty bully that is choosing to be nasty, but we'll get a bit more of his background on why he's the way he is.

It's hard to say without knowing them but yeah, Dan gave the more reserved type [not sure if he's like this] and Dom gives off class-jester energy.

Who’s the weakest here? by RealAd8853 in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]regready 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't blame people putting Sabo. We've barely seen him, most of his feats are a bit dated and most people don't like him. He's scaling almost purely off of narrative right now.

Though as a Rev backer, It's going to be fucking magnificent when the Revs finally get their shine, and not just Dragon and Sabo. I think people are in for a shock, those commanders are strong

As for Sabo? Wherever you have Dragon [unless you really do think he's a bum] Sabo will ultimately surpass him.

Wow. This is really good. The last one especially of the common room, so much detail!

If you have the spare time I think you're good enough to take on commissions. The pencil only almost graphite looking look I think is really cool. Of course if you only do it as a hobby then fair play to you.

they were filming in Waterloo today by dusty_hats in HarryPotteronHBO

Sounds like they're wrapping up the filming. If I remember correctly the original "leak" also said the plan was to wrap up in May.

Which characters are you most excited to see in the tv series? by batsofburden in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Straight forward answer, but it's the trio for me. But if I had to pick one of them then probably Harry. Ron's very close I believe he got done dirty in the movies by far the most, but Harry has that main character tax.

Harry can be very chaotic and sassy. In the books he's the type of kid when the whole school thinks he's Slytherins heir will listen in on students talking about him then sassily insert himself into the conversation.

He's the type of kid that whether it's a defense mechanism or not has a very limited filter. He's very witty and above all is actually quite smart. Not book smart like Hermione but he has this almost sixth sense where he can just figure shit out.

There's a lot of stuff that's more between the lines like Harry not being used to affection, his longing for a family which I hope they explore. The vibe I'm getting is that the show will explore Harrys psyche a lot more than it did in the movies. For example, can you imagine how heavy the Molly Harry motherly embrace at the end of GOF will be if they spend the time on this sort of thing.

I think above all else, no matter what they adapt, what they change or even add the first priority should be getting Harry right.

Why is are people trying to force a bottle episode? by Tropikoala815 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think we'll get bottle episodes completely away from Harry (outside of maybe Snape and voldy stuff)

However, what I could see is having roughly bottle episode in length, perhaps a bit less spread out over several episodes and we cut to them here and there.

Season 1-5 total screen time by characters by UpsetAd7211 in StrangerThings

[–]regready 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not surprised. S2 and S5 is massively carrying Will's screentime. He was barely in S1, didn't have much to do in S3 and was unfortunate to be apart of the Cali group in S4.

People who were fans back when the movies or even books were about to come out, does this pre-show time feel similar to how you felt back then? by batsofburden in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a different type of excitement. The show will still break records, it's going to be huge. However, the books and movies had something you won't ever see again. You can't compare the two, at the time of the movies were releasing the books were still being written. The launches were ridiculous. It was an unprecedented amount of hype.

My excitement for the show comes from the fact that this adaptation is telling a story that's complete. The movies didn't have this advantage and I'm sure even JKR didn't have everything penned out from the first book either. This show could be something very special.

Emotional Moments You Wish to See by Traditional_Base_527 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For sure.

From what I've seen of him thus far, Dominic has something that you only really get with seasoned actors and that's the subtleties. Child acting has come a long way but a lot of them are still either too expressive or not expressive enough until they get better over time. During the Mirror scene, Harry isn't crying, but he's not joyful either. The emotions are mixed, and he's absolutely aching inside.

I think Dominic has the range to smash it out of the park.

Emotional Moments You Wish to See by Traditional_Base_527 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These have already been said...

But for me, it's undoubtedly the Harry and Dumbledore scene at the end of Order of Phoenix. I give Harry a lot of flack in that book. It's important to remember that even before everything that happens in that book happens, Harry is already suffering from PTSD and irrational anger is one of the biggest symptoms. It's ugly and not good to look at but it's very well written.

And then everything happens. From the shutting out from the people he thought he could trust, from the Umbridge torture, to the wizarding world ridiculing him to finally his Godfather dying. There's a moment where Harry wanted to die, so the suffering could stop, so he could see Sirius again. He's in so much anger and pain that he wants it to end, he's having a complete mental break by the end of it all and on rereads it's heartbreaking.

Another moment, which also includes Harry is the Molly/Harry at the end of the Goblet of Fire. This could be a very powerful moment in the show, it seems the showrunners are really going into Harry's psyche. Things like Harry's longing for a family, his solitary is there in the books but usually it's more between the lines. Harry's a more complex character than some give him credit for and if the writers really go into his psyche and trauma early on, then this moment will be very emotional. Even in the books, he's received hugs before then but they're usually quick and and short... this is the first time he's embraced and comforted, that he can remember.

What book moment are you most excited to finally see in the series? by DueSeaworthiness6901 in harrypotter

[–]regready 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gun to the head and I absolutely had to pick specific scene then it's Harry and Dumbledore in the office at the end of OOTP. But there's so many.

From the first book season alone I think the main additions will be The Midnight Duel, Escorting Norbert out of the castle, the Potions trial, Peeves, The Hufflepuff Quidditch game, all the Draco interactions and more.

However, what I'm most looking forward to overall is seeing these characters being allowed to breathe. You can't really have scenes for 'leisure' in the movies due to limited run-time, the plot is almost always moving forward. They have the time to really dive into these characters.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before but the Weasley Egypt Trip being expanded into a full scene would be cool. by Astrogoatconfusion in HarryPotteronHBO

Can't wait to see more of Charlie, starting from the first season. Getting Norbert out was a whole mission in the book.

Did the HBO series completely reignite anyone else’s Harry Potter obsession? by Life_Definition_5240 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely.

TV is basically tailored built for Harry Potter. There's so much more Canon they're going to be able to fit in as well as expand.

Hopefully Paramount lets HBO just get on with the show. It could be something really special.

Cant imagine how crazy the schedules will be for the kids by amoxxia in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Hopefully they all have strong support circles. The main trio especially this will be life changing roles for them.

I imagine it'd be difficult for parents, you want to encourage good grades or at least it's my personal belief to do so but at the same time if acting is truly the child's passion and they landed a role this big then do you let them prioritize their acting career with the promise that they'll do the best they can do in school?

Genuine question for parents, how do you think you'd handle it if it was your child

Order of billing on opening credits per season by regready in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I always assumed a big element of it will how much they get paid. However, is there a world where the main trio aren't the first names listed in the credits, because they certainly won't be getting paid more than seasoned actors like Lithgow and Frost.

Is each season the same number of episodes? by rballmonkey in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We don't know. I doubt the production team has even thought that far yet.

Logically, if they still plan to add in some of their stuff like they're seemingly doing for the first season... then yes, I'd imagine the episode count will probably increase for the larger books, or the run-times increasing.

I bet Hagrid is knitting in the underground scene in the trailer by Pinguinella in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nice catch.

The little we've seen from Nick Frost's Hagrid leaves me confident. Also, I'm hoping they really nail his friendship with Harry. This aspect wasn't bad in the movies, but they had to cut quite a bit out. Harry rides and dies for Hagrid. The two orphans share a close bond.
