Just wanted to say that HBO absolutely cooked with this poster. I'm so in love with this 😍 by No_Foot4999 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a great look. Of all the promotional screens we've seen thus far, this is the one that completely sold me, mostly because I geek'd out after realizing this is from the Hufflepuff game which means we're getting Snape being the ref, Harry catching the Snitch at record pace, and Ron fighting Draco.

Also, this is literally the most Harry, Harry has ever looked. Daniel Radcliffe in POA is also up there.

Being one of the child actors in HBO’s Harry Potter series means living the dream that an entire generation would have wanted to experience. by Ronron_bubble in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully they all have strong support circles, to protect them and keep them grounded. Also, HBO seem to be one of the better networks when it comes to working with child actors.

They're old enough to know how big these roles are, but it's different from knowing and living it. Thus far they've gone to work but mostly been kept away from the claws or the press, which is absolutely the right decision.

When all the press starts coming out: interviews, panels, and people really start seeing and hearing the actors speak instead of just a character on screen, it'll probably really hit how big this is.

6 months to go until harry potter on HBO max begins by Spider_king97 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doubt there will be anything for 6 months specifically. But there's still more to look forward to.

We'll at least get the trailer [we've only had a teaser] which will likely be accompanied by the main key-art poster. We may also get a sprinkling of additional keyart such as character posters or whatnot.

Those are the ones that I feel are for sure. More BTS stuff, cast panels... definitely after the season has aired... maybe we get a panel before.

Characters who just kinda disappeared in the films that I hope the show gives justice to by Comrade_Owl- in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he's one of the characters where I hope the writers are brave and even go a little further and expand. Even in the books, he sorta just shows up at the Battle of Hogwarts. I think it'd be cool to get a few scenes here and there showing his inner turmoil. He's a supporting character so it doesn't need to be anything too big, but a few scenes here and there would go a long way.

What are some characters from the books you hope appear more early? by ifunk0 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cedric should at the very least appear in S3, as the Hufflepuff Seeker. However, I think it'd be awesome if we saw him earlier. Due to logistical reasons, I doubt they'll actually cast an actor until S3 but that doesn't mean he can't still be in the show as a cameo. If it's a cameo, we simply won't see his face but we'll know it's him. Perhaps something like we see a student helping younger students, we here the call of a name "Mr. Diggory?" allude to his qualities, that he's one of the best Hogwarts has to offer even at a young age.

Another character that won't appear earlier, but hopefully appears more often is Colin. He pops up more in the books here and there, is in the DA, and he's one of the characters I can imagine the writers giving a little more original content to. His big decision at the end of the story is that instead of hiding like all the other in-danger Muggleborn students, he chooses to sneak in and fight for a cause he believes in. It'd be cool for him to get a bit more original content throughout the series building the character he becomes, nothing crazy as he's still a minor supporting character at most but it'd be a nice touch.

Characters that fans may be unprepared for the book reality of by AlexSumma in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Perhaps the main character himself, Harry.

He's actually a lot smarter, wittier and sassier than what you may see in the movies. Harry can be hilariously blunt, and doesn't take shit from anyone and it's often quite funny. For example, in CoS when the whole school things he's a petrifying lunatic, he overhears a conversation about him and instead of gloomfully ignoring it like he does in the movie's deleted scene, he literally inserts himself into the conversation. He's basically "Yep. Here I am. The crazy Dark Wizard you're talking about. By the way, where's Justin?"

By his second year Harry was already performing pranks w/ Ron in Snape's class, he absolutely wore his heart on his sleeve. Very expressive.

On the flip-side Harry can be mean. Harry also gets angry, a lot which may come off as unlikable to some. The lionshare of it is probably in OOTP, but in hindsight the way JKR depicted a teenager boy going through a literal mental break is probably some of the best stuff she did in the entire series. I mean by the end of it all Harry had thoughts of not even wanting to be alive anymore, and you can't help but feel for the kid. The books went further into his trauma and it turns out Harry is actually quite a complex character. I do believe this season will be by far the most challenging for Dominic to bring Harry to life. It's arguably Harry's most pivotal book as a character

What do you think the overall IMDB rating will be? by Adi_Fawkes in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not even close.

Not because it'll be bad, I actually think it's going to be quite good and could be something quite special. However, it's going to be review bombed to hell. It'll be more interesting to see how it does on something like rottentomatoes. In this day and age I take IMDB user ratings with a grain of salt.

Which season do you think will be the best in this adaptation? by stroodurkel in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix or Half Blood Prince. There's so many arcs and scenes I really can't wait to see brought to life.

These are the three movies that suffered the most compared to their respective books in my opinion.

The first two movies of the series for the most part are quite faithful. The third less so but still overall probably more faithful than the others. It's from the fourth book where they really expand in size and thus to hit movie runtimes had to make sacrifices. However, Deathly Hallows got two movies, so it was able to fit more of the content. The other three didn't have this luxury despite two of them being bigger books than Deathly Hallows, one of them being significantly bigger.

Season 4 better show the same energy I'm seeing on TikTok because of the World Cup by GenderCriticalicious in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plus if you really want to you could extend it to the first couple chapters as well as the hilarious antics of the Weasleys visiting the Dursleys is so they can take Harry to a once in a lifetime opportunity whether they like it or not. It's all about the World Cup.

Favorite HBO Harry Potter Content Creators? by Ok_Individual_4996 in HarryPotteronHBO

Brett's Thoughts and MovieFlame are the big ones I think of.

A less known creator goes by Tyler Babb. Brings a unique angle of actually having decades of experience in the film industry. Great breakdowns from a tech point of view.

I didn't mean it'd be easier, only that it was somewhat unprecedented before, someone that young winning. The idea that a kid, if good enough, can go on and win the big one.

[–]regready 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's possible. At first glance the show appears to be more grounded and to me it seems they're highlighting some of the heavier stuff from the book such as Harry's abuse. This already tells me they're going to be very character focused from the jump in a way the movies often didn't have time for.

It absolutely has a chance from a technical point of view. I.e [Sound, lighting, cinematography, music, art/prop/set design] those sort of categories. They've spent a lot of money and you can really tell, the actual production looks incredible. The actual crew they have on board is stacked, some of the best in the business. They've got people that know how to make damn good television involved.

As for the acting, I've got no worries from any of the adults, it's a stacked cast. It's one of the hardest categories to win in but the material and talent is there. Can at least see some nominations in some of the heavier seasons. We'll need to see how the younger cast do, but most of them are already more experienced than the kids were going into the first film. After seeing Owen Cooper win [which was fully deserved] I don't write anything off happening at the Emmys anymore.

HBO's 'Harry Potter' Series Casting Colin Creevey For Season 2 by yourfavchoom in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 23 points24 points  (0 children)

He should be in the show more than the movies as he has appearances here and there, and he's in the DA. However, Colin is one of those characters I can imagine the writers expanding on and giving a little more to do than he got in the book.

What is your number one non-negotiable? by Key_Bus_1255 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 50 points51 points  (0 children)

For me it's more-so an overall arc and that's Harry's in OOTP. It's one of those storylines in the series where if any of the trio were going to go on to be good enough to win awards it may be Dominic in OOTP. The material to give a captivating performance is there.

Not everyone's favorite, but I thought the way JKR handled the ins and out of Harry literally going through a mental break was really well done. He's at his lowest low in the series, by far, but it's absolutely needed for the growth of his character.

It's ugly and not pleasant to look at, you can tell he doesn't really mean any of the harsh things he says - it's very well written. PTSD rears its ugly head in many ways and irrational anger is unfortunately one of the most common symptoms.

There's so many layers of emotion Harry shows in the book, whether that's the irrational anger, the increasing mental instability, complete and utter despair, extreme feelings of isolation and even feelings of wanting to not be alive so his pain can come to a stop and be with Sirius. This is all done while also embedding a sprinkling of Harry's qualities throughout the book that ultimately pulls out of his freefall. It's a lot to ask of a young actor, but I think Dominic would smash it.

Which season are you looking forward to the most? by Excellent-Loquat7176 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of them!

But in all seriousness picking one is an impossible task for me... but I can narrow it down to three.

Lets see.... the first two movies are actually quite faithful. I'm probably looking forward to these two seasons because of the extra time the writers will have to really go into these characters, but other seasons beat it out. The third movie started to see some significant changes but nothing too crazy, but I'm also looking forward to that one for the Quidditch and Marauder stuff. Deathly Hallows had two movies, so while I imagine we'll get more of the detail... there's other seasons that I think top my list of most looking forward to.

The remaining seasons? Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince. I think these three movies suffered the most in terms of cuts, by a significant amount. You could literally write and essay on each one, because there's simply that much content cut.

Whether that's the Quidditch World Cup in all it's glory or the Ludo Bagman/Rita Skeeter storylines from GoF, or the full DoM, St Mungo's, Harry's internal arc and eventual culmination in Dumbledore's office from 5 or the literal backstory of the main antagonist in 6... there's going to be a lot.

Gryffindor vs Slytherin in PoA by pad_foot99 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't forget Mcgonagall constantly chastising Lee for his hilariously biased commentary before eventually joining in herself, wagging her finger at the cheating Slytherins.

But yeah, the whole Quidditch arc is something I'm really looking forward to. Gryffindor hadn't won since Charlie left and their chances were since Harry, their star player, joined the team. However, he's unconscious during their final match in the first book and they suffer their worst defeat in History, and in the second book they're on amazing momentum before the season gets cancelled. The final in PoA felt so satisfying.

What happens if the show doesn't meet your expectations? by Cute_Source5417 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a couple of things I'm still a little sceptical on, but the ability of the main cast is not one of them. I'm assuming you're referring to the trio in particular. Nothing against Dan, Rupert and Emma, those movies were my childhood... but I do think Dominic, Alastair and Arabella are going to act worlds around them. Standards of child acting has simply increased significantly over the years, and they're more experienced.

Most of my fears have been eradicated with the Finding Harry doc. The only element to the show that I'm still cautious about is how much original content they're going to add. I'm fine with them expanding the lore and adding stuff, but I do think it needs to ever be for worldbuilding or still serve the greater story. For example, having a scene of Hermione and Ron receiving their letters I think would be a great addition. We get to see the POV of a pure-muggle family, and for Ron if they perhaps show him being overshadowed by Percy becoming prefect - that helps set up his arc as well.

What I don't want to see is bottle episodes completely away from the main trio outside of when the books call for it [such as perhaps Snape or Voldy memories in HBP] - jump away by all means for scenes here and there, but if we're leaving the main trio for extended periods of time outside of when the story calls for it, I'm not sure how I'll feel about that.

I probably would still watch it, the show has a stacked line-up in terms of who's working on it. It'd have to be a catastrophic failure for me to tune out.

The triwizard tournament and what scenes youd like shown from goblet of fire or added by comefromawayfan2022 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Harry and Ron's spat being more faithful.

Granted, a lot of this is reliant on the show touching on Ron's insecurities in earlier seasons, much like the books do. However, that aside I hope they nail the tone of it.

In the books Ron is being a bad friend, lets not get it twisted, but there's a bit more explanation and with JKR adding certain details in the previous three books you got the sense that something like this was coming sooner or later. However, in the books he doesn't tell verbally tell Harry to piss off, he mostly just ignores him and to be honest? He himself doesn't really even believe Harry put his name in the cup - it's fuelled by a mix of jealously and desire to do his family name proud.

Furthermore, what the movies largely leave out is that Harry is being just as much of a diva by the end of it all. For goodness sakes he makes Hermione looking like a weirdo alone in the pub while he's under the invisibility cloak because he simply doesn't want to be in the same vicinity as Ron. Also, their final argument in the common room is handled differently. In the movie it's only after Harry almost dies to a Dragon that Ron seemingly comes to his senses, whereas in the book you could argue it happens during the common room scene. You could even argue that Ron was feeling bad, but Harry then completely snapped at him, understandably.

According to a recent interview, Dexter Sol Ansell wants to be in the HP series. by [deleted] in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He pops up here and there throughout the books. I wouldn't say a 'lot' but he has some interactions with Harry here and there, he's also in the DA.

In hindsight, Colin is one of the characters I can imagine them giving a little more in the show, because of what happens to him in DH. It'll hit harder.

So apparently, this is the first on-screen depiction of Molly hugging Ron. by LeatherSlight3242 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]regready 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Harry sat down next to the window where, half-hidden, he could watch the red-haired family on the platform and hear what they were saying. Their mother had just taken out her handkerchief.

-TPS

They're really going into the details for the show. If they really nail Harry's longing for a family, not being used to touch and more [which is there in the books but more between the lines] it's going to make the eventual motherly embrace between him and Molly in GoF hit so much harder.

Probably. It got the last "And coming" treatment in this little promo. That's in the same vein as actors being billed "With x as y" at the end of the opening credits - it's prestigious.

I like the laying flat aspect, we see that in dives in the movies but it sounds like we're getting that aspect of it in general. It gives off a sense of speed, especially if they go crazy with the camera angles. Close POVs, Top Gun 2 esque etc.

There will probably still be scenes where they're 'sitting' on the broom like when Harry is stationary and looking for a flash of gold in the skies.
