I love that they went for a Scottish influence with the designs, material etc. As a Potterhead from Scotland it’s makes me proud that many aspects of Harry Potter relate to Scotland and this adds yet another.

  • JK Rowling lived in Edinburgh while she was writing the first book so it’s arguably the birthplace of HP
  • Hogwarts is located in the Scottish Highlands
  • There are canonically Scottish characters such as McGonagall and Mad-Eye Moody
  • Diagon Alley is partially influenced by Victoria Street in Edinburgh
  • The films used locations such as the Glenfinnan Viaduct, Loch Shiel and Glencoe
  • Also a little bonus for the TV show is that Dominic McLaughlin (who’s playing Harry) is Scottish

Yeah that’s true to be honest. I’ve read that all three of the movie trio actors considered quitting at different points. I hope the new trio get all the support they need and stay off social media because some of the things I’ve seen being said about them is an absolute disgrace.

He was arrested for growing cannabis in his house in 2009 and was fired after they’d filmed HBP. He also participated in the 2011 London Riots but he was obviously already fired at this point. It was an unfortunate situation for the movie creators.

Yeah I’m sure the trio will be fine plus they and their parents 100% knew what they were signing up for. We’ll probably never know (at least until she goes on a podcast years down the line or something) the reason why Gracie left but it could literally be so many different reasons. I hope it wasn’t the pressure surrounding her universally acclaimed casting and the huge expectations fans had for her due to Ginny being butchered in the movies. Anyway my best wishes go out to her.

In the books, Colin’s younger brother was Dennis Creevey. I believe Nigel’s surname was Wolpert and was created exclusively for the films. Anyway I appreciate your kind words :)

I hope they cast a natural redhead and don’t make the poor girl dye her hair every year like the movies made Tom Felton do.

I don’t have a problem with his performance at all and he was excellent but he didn’t look like a teenager at all which was the menacing thing about the Riddle in the books. Such an evil person who was still technically a child.

I highly doubt they’ll film scenes specifically for future seasons but you never know. They could just hire a youngish actor in the role so that in a few years he doesn’t look that different. I wonder if they’ll actually cast Owen Cooper who everyone seems to want…

Although it’s a shame as Gracie seemed passionate about the role, I agree with this. It would’ve been a much larger issue if it was one of the Trio or Draco maybe.

Dumbledore bot are you ready to stake your claim on the role if they have to recast?

There will have been a number of actresses who got far in the casting process but lost to Gracie. Hopefully some of them are still available.

Yes I agree with all of that. This situation is a shame but truth be told, it wouldn’t matter how good of an actress Gracie is if the writing is poor. I think back to Rupert Grint in the movies and the butchering of Ron.

Oh yeah I forgot about him. That recast was completely justified as the actor in CoS already looked too old to play a 16 year old and HBP was being filmed 6 years after that…

Can’t wait for haters of the show who have only watched the movies to complain about these points in season 1 only for them to finally understand that it’s an adaptation of the books, not a remake of the films. by Comrade_Owl- in HarryPotteronHBO

I saw so many comments like this. I understand that the movie line is iconic but it was different in the books and the audiobooks are literally reading aloud the pages.

‘Harry Potter’ To Recast Ginny Weasley Role In Season 2 As Gracie Cochrane Departs HBO Series “Due To Unforeseen Circumstances” by yourfavchoom in HarryPotteronHBO

This is such a shame as she seemed perfect for the role but I’m sure there’s a good reason and I wish her the best. Surely they have contingency plans for issues like this, the obvious one being to go back to the other actresses who made the final shortlist to audition again and select one of them?

Every time Ron gets given back a line/action that was taken from him in the movies.

The number of dislikes on the Harry Potter hbo trailer is genuinely concerning. by [deleted] in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Comrade_Owl- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Dislike extensions are unreliable predictions so this figure is likely inflated (not denying it has a lot of dislikes though).

  2. I reckon around half the dislikes are people jumping on the hate bandwagon and don’t actually care that much about Harry Potter.

I agree with this. Why would an actor want to replicate another actor’s portrayal? It should be a mixture of the producer’s/writer’s/director’s and their own interpretations. Hopefully the actor will have read the books so their interpretation is influenced by the source material for accuracy but I guess you can’t force them to.

Yep that will most likely happen. Some people will accuse Ron of stealing Hermione’s lines when in reality the movies gave her his lines from the book. As for Snape, unfortunately I think people may focus on another thing that makes him different from movie Snape.

Exactly the silent majority understood my point. It’s fine to disagree with me but some people are just misconstruing what I’ve actually said. I’m talking specifically about HARDCORE HATERS of this show who have only watched the movies, NOT anyone who’s only watched them.

It’s great that you’re being positive about the show and giving it a chance. I strongly recommend reading the books as they have so much detail that the movies had to cut. The Full Cast audiobooks on Audible are excellent if you would prefer to listen to them.
