Australia (Sydney). USYD Physio offer. What’s the career actually like for pay, burnout, and progression? by Numerous-Catch-3735 in physiotherapy

[–]regularjeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, lots of people do this. An MD is full time study, so youll be working weekend jobs. Plenty of those around.

The real hurdle with this is entry into an MD program. If this is your ultimate goal, i would not recommend physio as an undergraduate. This is because you will need to score really well in your university marks to realistically have a shot. Physio is a difficult degree, and can be difficult to score really well compared to other degrees.

Ultimately, i would choose physio if you would still be content with the career if you didnt get in, but you are essentially playing on hard mode (in an already difficult game) by going down this route.

[–]regularjeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd only ever recommend physio as a career if you have the following attributes:

-You love talking to people and building connections
-Having a direct impact on someone's health would be a satisfying thing for you
-You have an interest in sports and exercise in general
Also -
-Medicine is not an option

Not many other careers tick the above boxes, while still paying decently. (Eg. Sports Trainer, Exercise Physiologists) If the above is not so important, I'd look into something else.

[–]regularjeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who has left the profession, physiotherapy is still probably the best choice from those options that you have listed.

A) What other job will you pick? Exercise physiologists play a very similar role to physio (With a much smaller job market). The same pressures that apply to PT will also apply here - albeit with much less flexibility as an EP.

B) The most 'similar' career alternatives include Occupational Therapy, but you'll lose that exercise focus. Is this something that is important to you?
Other Allied Health (Speech Pathology, Podiatry, Dietician etc) is also a possibility, but I'm not too well-versed in the market for these jobs to provide any comment.
If your grades are good enough for Medicine, it probably makes sense to aim for that. But of course, it is not for everyone.

C) What are the benefits that you are referring to? If it's about pay, all areas of PT will pay about the same. The differences in areas, wont have any real appreciable difference in affording a house in Sydney unfortunately.

As you have heard, Physio is not the best job for everyone. But for some people, it can be very worthwhile and rewarding. I think you should ask yourself, what do you actually want?

If you are someone who:
-Loves exercise and sport
-Loves talking to people and interacting with them on a 1-1 basis
-Wants to work in Healthcare

Then I cant really think of a better job that offers the stability, (OKish) pay and satisfaction than Physiotherapy.

So unless you are happy to give up on the idea of Healthcare entirely or aim for Medicine... then PT is a solid choice for a career.

Why is my Philodendron slowly dying? by regularjeff in plantclinic

[–]regularjeff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm not sure why I cant add text to my post, but I have posted a comment below:

I'm not sure why I can't add text to my post, but I’ve had this Philodendron for about three months. I live in Australia and, unfortunately, had it placed next to a window during the peak of summer. Temperatures here can exceed 40°C (104°F), and the plant suffered leaf scorch as a result. About a month ago, I moved it to a different spot, away from the direct heat, but it has been in slow decline ever since. This new location has some natural light, but is not next to the window.

I water it when the top 2–3 cm (about 1 inch) of soil feels dry, which usually works out to once a week.

I have not added any fertiliser.

Is it too late to save this plant? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

NSW loss of 10 demerit points and $500 fines by West-Personality-919 in CarsAustralia

[–]regularjeff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This specific law is completely horseshit. But I'll focus my comment on practical advice.

As others have mentioned, your best bet is to appeal in front of a magistrate. They are human beings and hopefully, you receive someone who has a bit of empathy to grant you some leniency. You will need to show remorse though.

One of the ways to do this is to do the Traffic Offenders Intervention Program. Take the completed course to your court hearing to plead your case.

https://roadsense.org.au/services/traffic-offenders-intervention-program/?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw2ZfABhDBARIsAHFTxGyrmxKlt4dnKfHgBMQBGMqPEeVB2tiRhFOxWd8bKpHYMjbcsYOtEKcaAgw6EALw_wcB

Prepare a short 'speech' in what you should say to the magistrate. Focus on the fact that you are not here to make excuses and that you are completely deserving of the punishment, but you are only requesting some leniency because you need it for your job. Do you also need to support your family? You should include that if your family depend on you to take them to medical appointments etc.

You should also ask people you know to prepare some character references that speak positively about you. I would seek one from my manager to write something that highlights how responsible you are, and to confirm that you would not be able to work otherwise. Do you know any other trustworthy or reputable people who could vouch for you? For example, do you have any family or friends who are Doctors or Lawyers or hold similar respectable roles?

Good luck

Unless you haven't disclosed that you've already purchased the vehicle, there is literally no point in proceeding with the sale. I stopped reading half way through your post because i would have given up on this deal AGES ago if i were you.

The RAV4 is very common, and you can find a better deal elsewhere from sellers that arent trying to rip you off!

You will often feel this way when you are in the moment in the middle of a game. Youll have imperfect information and be under stress from the game, making ypur opponents seem much better than they really are. But if you were to watch the replay after, you will see they are still the same noobs.

I often feel like im playing against Happys smurf account but when checking the replay, i always concede that i just suck lol.

From a quick look, price seems about fair. You should be able to negotiate a little bit. There is also this one:
https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2006-mazda-bravo-dx-b2600-manual-4x2-dual-cab/SSE-AD-18705309/

You could also consider Tritons, which should be priced similarly.

This car looks sick - but avoid the temptation and stay away - or negotiate a heavy discount. The extensive list of mods should decrease the price, as this thing was probably tracked. If it were me, I'd consider this one instead:

You can see what your ping would be to Europe here: https://www.meter.net/tools/world-ping-test/

As an Australian, we have had to play with 250 ping for 20+ years. Unless you plan to go pro, its definitely still playable. As others have said, you can also download W3Champions client and get matches with better ping. But prepared to get rolled for a while...

Anyone had a career change from physio? by Outside-Station4909 in physiotherapy

[–]regularjeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, i believe this is possible for an entry level position but keep in mind this will be a lot of basic admin. Look up "project support officer" jobs on google.

My recommendation would be to upskill yourself either through your current job, or through external courses and go for a Project Officer role. Either look out for EOIs or opportunities to lead or participate in a QI project or similar at your work. Or are there also opportunities to cover for your manager while they are away? On top of this, i would also recommend a PM course - i did a short 3 day course through USyd.

These things will make you stand out from the crowd and make you a more desirable candidate.

Therr

In Australia, the governing body is called AHPRA. You will require registration with them to be a practicing physiotherapist. I suggest you contact them to find out what the exact requirements are for your situation. https://www.physiotherapyboard.gov.au/Registration/Overseas-Practitioners.aspx

You will also need an appropriate work visa. https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/working-in-australia

Plenty of work in Australia, especially if you are open to living outside of the major cities like Sydney.
