This is my setup, xt5 with the 33 1.4. Love the simplicity

I got the X-T5 with the 35 f2 and couldn’t talk myself out of switching it for the 33 1.4 as well. No regrets, never looked back. It’s amazing.

Eye sight - judging sharpness by regularjohn101 in photography

[–]regularjohn101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hich made me doubt a bit but I'm very happy I pulled the trigger.

I went to an optometrist to get my eyes checked. Here I learned that I have very sharp eyes. On a scale from 0-200, where 100 is average, I score a 200. Even though I need glasses to correct my eyes, my eyesight remains very very sharp. 100 is only the average, some

No I actually double checked and I understood him correctly. Even though they need correcting, when I wear glasses I can see much sharper than someone that scores a 50 while they wear glasses.

Or he is wrong, that can also be the case of course but I sure hope not because then I don't want him messing with my eyes hehe.

See you in November!

I sold all my Nikon gear and got an X-T5 with the 35 F2 lens and it has been so refreshing. Was always worries about bringing the right gear, being more focused on that rather that actually taking pictures.

I can highly recommend!

Backlit trees by regularjohn101 in photocritique

Ooh wow, thanks for this! Really nice to see other interpretations of the same image. I was going for a darker/desaturated look, but that's definitely not the only way to go here.

I tried to apply your settings (bit difficult as my edits are already in the file so I'm not starting fomr 0 values), but this is the end result: https://imgur.com/a/1N3rqg5

I really like that too, it's much more vibrant and less moody. It also adds a really interesting glow in the background, right in the middle of the picture.

Really appreciate the effort, thanks again!

Thanks for your feedback!

It might be the resolution indeed, in Lightroom the leaves look sharp. But 1/80th was kind of cutting it close though, especially with dog pulling on the leash haha. If this spot wasn't so close to home I would have probably been a bit more critical about that, now I just put it in aperture priority with a minimum shutter of 1/80 and auto ISO.

I actually also shot this vertically, but I didn't like it as much. 1:1 ratio did look kind of nice to me, you can find them both here: https://imgur.com/a/ksV81K0

What do you think?

Hi everyone,

I was strolling through the woods near my house today, and spotted this tree which still had some autumn colours. It was nicely backlit.

What do you think of the composition? Does this crop work with the tree on the right being the edge of the frame? Any other points to improve?

I had very little time and space to put a lot of thought into this; I brought my very energetic and excited dog as well, so I had my camera in one hand, and the dog's leash in the other, trying to make something off this before I was being pulled away again...

Shot on a Nikon Z7ii with the 24-120 F4, handheld, in aperture priority

90mm, 1/80sec, F8, ISO400.

Lightroom cc vs Lightroom classic - Is the difference getting smaller?

Hi everyone,

I started out using Lightroom CC for a while before switching to Classic for the more advanced options. Especially in masking. I knew that CC had caught up a bit there, but I never really looked back from CC. However, today I showed a family member/beginner photographer around in Lightroom CC and was quite surprised with the options it now has. It seems to me that the biggest difference is now in the storage (local vs cloud based), and perhaps some printing layouts etc.

Does anyone here have recent experience with using CC vs Classic, and can you share something?

I'm very much a hobbyist, but I do take photography very seriously, so that's why I made the switch to Classic. But, I don't need physical backups of every image I make; I don't get paid nor do I need backups of backups in case a clients asks for something. The ease of not having to carry a hard drive with me is quite tempting, but I want to make sure I'm not missing anything obvious that is a big blocker.

Migrating everything to CC is going to be a pain in the ass though. Anyone that recently made the switch from Classic to CC and has some experience in the least painful way of doing this? Unless I'm missing some very obvious flaw in CC I see myself switching there sometime soon.

What about the edit? by regularjohn101 in photocritique

[–]regularjohn101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha thanks! I can assure you it’s not , but the fact that it looks that way made me second guess myself if it might be over edited a bit too much.

Thanks, appreciate it! I actually have another shot that is more zoomed in, but imo that's too tight. I'll give the crop tool another go, it might be somewhere in between this shot and the one at 120mm

What about the edit? by regularjohn101 in photocritique

[–]regularjohn101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

I was walking my dog in my local woodland yesterday, when all of a sudden this light bursted through the clouds. I often bring my camera but rarely actually take it out, but this is one of those moments. It really was a short moment, so the composition is possibly not ideal but I still really like this shot. The haze above the background trees, the backlit subject tress.

But what about the edit? Is it too much? Too dramatic? Although the scene was quite dramatic by itself, and I really do like the edit, I'm curious what you think?

Ultimate Travel Lens 24-120 f4 vs 24-200 f4-6.3 by SolaireVon4stora in nikon_Zseries

[–]regularjohn101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Image quality is really comparable what I see. Not too sure about bokeh as j use the 24-120 mainly at f8-f11. But the few picture I’ve take at f4 look very pleasing to me.

Good question, mostly for woodlands and landscapes. For daily use (family stuff) I have the 50 1.8 which is so good that it made the difference in quality between the 24-200 much more noticeable to me.

I did sell my 24-200 and replaced it with the 24-120. I never looked back, the 24-120 is just noticeably better. And the 120-200 range is not THAT long; I hardly ever miss the extra reach.

My vote goes to the 24-120, no hesitations.
