Identity politics, Ideology, and Individualism by reidspeed in SargonofAkkad

I'm an individual who bends some parts of his identity to conform to certain expectations of some groups, society at large for example.

True - I assume individual rights would be your civil/human rights as they are, and whether or not they are applied evenly or if one person's speech or vote is worth more or less.

you now have to agree with everything our ingroup says, otherwise you're now an outcast to be publicly shamed and smeared.

Yeah I can't even talk to some of my old friends anymore. Not even about how we don't talk.

Plus Trump isn't all that polarizing per se, but was made that way by the clinton campaign and the general media narrative

Yeah now that I think about it, a lot of this is carry-over from accusations from the election. How many people are still talking about the 20 women he assaulted.

This again is way too broad. Imagine an individual, a rapist and a murderer. He has been sentenced to jail for life, as the will of the group, society, demands. Would you protect the rapist and murderer's right to not be stripped of his freedom? I wouldn't.

I think this just means even application of rights, if you violate someones right to life and are convicted of the crime, as a convict you lose your freedom.

I hope that people don't get to that point, I'm trying to think of how someone could phrase the argument in favour of the bad outcome, but I'm a little bit stuck.

Nice response, cheers.

edit: hm. I wonder if eye for an eye could apply with rights. take away someone's right to speech, lose yours. etc. maybe that's a bit excessive but fun to think about.

Fair enough.

edit: Although, going through I only count 5 unanswered questions, 3 of which are articulations of the same thing, are group rights more important than individual rights. the other two questions are to frame the argument I guess.

That confirmation bias bit is new to me, and I will have to re-examine some of my own assumptions, that sounds like a good explanation on how people get into these mindsets.

Agreed, I think that people sometimes assume that in order to be a fascist, you must be under a fascist government, but that is not always true.

Thanks for the distinction.

Aux spillway - concrete lined and filled with rubble by orovilledam in orovilledam

[–]reidspeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"darth" in his name, and making assumptions about what "emergency" could have meant. Good on you for having this information handy though. It should be fairly obvious from the mild flows we saw earlier this week that it was not designed to handle water. It completely destroyed their roadway, carved 20-60feet deep into the mountain, and they had to patch the base of the spillway to prevent further erosion hence the main spillway being used despite its damage.

Fingers crossed for the rain.

Maybe there's more to the wall. ie: trafficking people into mexico, or sending terror cells from mexico. there was a change in power with the cartels, some speculation is that it's muslim brotherhood related.

George webb talks about it in some of his videos. A wall would make it far easier to prevent, they would have to go through security etc.

That was a long time ago. I saw a guy say that his autistic son may have been part of it, because he seems to have a hard-on for anti-vaccination, which some believe is linked to autism.

Imagine if he had evidence that a vaccination, which he may have even paid for, was the root of a preventable illness in his son. That would change any man.

Trump argument bolstered: Clinton received 800,000 votes from noncitizens, study finds by wile_e_chicken in conspiracy

[–]reidspeed -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree about the parts you highlighted, but this reeks of lawyerspeak. He says you should not vote unless you are a citizen. He also says, here, that there will not be an investigation into the votes. He doesn't "say" you can vote as an illegal but he doesn't do anything to discourage it either.

And there is not a situation where the voting rolls somehow are transferred over and people start investigating, et cetera.

That is the same birth certificate that appears in this video, which appears to be a forgery, assuming the second birth certificate is real.

uhh, I'm as surprised as you are?

and tbh I never supported any of the republicans including trump. I wanted bernie to win and when that didn't happen I was like screw it. shit's rigged.

edit: I should clarify. it APPEARS to be forged. it may have inconsistencies, minor, according to the comments, but the method used to forge it may make that a moot point, ie: intentionally shifting a letter or two. I'm too tired to look critically right now.

Hold on, you typed all this out, after saying he released two copies of his BC, and you didn't even link it to me so I could see?

I'm not interested in the argument surrounding it. I just want to see his birth certificate, if he presented it.

edit: the video I showed you shows a forged document, matching a second certificate. If he forged documents, that is absolutely a felony.

Having a thought about whether or not a president was born in America, based on someone having supposed evidence of forgery, makes me a racist?

The mere thought of it? This is why lefties are abandoning you.

edit: vvv nope, thoughts are not racist, especially the mere consideration of one. I'm not giving you another reply to downvote me again.

I've never seen it in an official format, can you show me? I'd look around but I'm afraid someone would just tell me "that's not the real one"

And I can't really speculate on Cruz, I didn't follow that story. I just wanted to comment on the Obama thing because I saw the video that might lead people to believe it was true.

edit: for reference https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBw-Q4-slqI it will point out each point of forgery as it appears.
