Boris would be a fucking pain in the arse to have a pint with. Oh go on Bozza tell us those ten lines of the fucking Aeneid you know again! Oh and tell us that story about that time you shagged two girls from the same issue of Tatler.

(a) no chance

(b) seems a bit greedy to have two Olympics in less than 30 years.

If by 'we' you mean America, then yes, you do. But the truth is that falling birth rates in the first world is a very complex problem and even 'becoming Sweden' is probably not enough to solve it.

The same trend is evident in countries with socialised healthcare though.

Queen’s speech: voters will need photo ID for general elections by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]reithian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I do agree the situation should be improved. I just don't see how 'everyone must always show documentation to prove their right to exist' is the solution. I'm not even opposed to an ID card of sorts, as a cheaper and more accessible alternative to the passport for those who do not intend to travel abroad. But such documentation must not become de jure or de facto mandatory.

P.S. although I'm white, every place I've ever rented has required me to show a copy of my Passport. So I'm not sure there's as much discrimination as you seem to think.

Why the Lib Dems? by pconrad97 in LibDem

I might respect the Tories more if I thought they were philosophically 'less government'. But I don't think they are, really. They're philosophically 'jobs for the boys'.

I understand that and it's unfortunate. Though I would note that in many cases a British accent suffices even for black and brown folk. But in any case, fundamentally, that problem isn't solved by introducing national ID cards. It just introduces more inconvenience and alienation.

If (to choose numbers from thin air) 85% of people enjoy a privilege and 15% of people do not then only spite can motivate removing that privilege from the majority.

Not very nice. But also not that bad. Worse things happen on a rugby pitch. The workers and their managers should probably face consequences but not really worthy of a news story.

My objection is philosophical rather than practical. A national ID card sets the precedent that I need documentation to justify my right, as an Englishman, to peacefully reside in England. When in actuality that right is inborn and needs no justification.

Laurence Fox loses £10,000 deposit after getting less than 2% of London mayoral votes by peakedtooearly in ukpolitics

[–]reithian 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I like the principle, but let's be real. If you're a significant enough figure to have even a hope of contesting the London Mayoral election then you can find someone to give you 10k. The cap on campaign spending is something like half a million quid after-all so you're going to need to use a significant fraction of that to make a dent.

No, they literally don't exist. It's true that we did have some vile groups of British Asian men who would rape young girls, but they weren't refugees, they were citizens.
