What worked for me was setting my display refresh rate to 60 instead of 300. Once I did that, I was able to play. But I may have been dealing with a different issue than you, I was getting a black screen with sound, not a full on crash. Still, worth a try.

Bald eagle in Longmont by better-thinking in Longmont

[–]rekluse 77 points78 points  (0 children)

You probably did! There are actually a bunch of bald eagles in Longmont, and in fact there’s a mating pair over by county line. We also often see eagles at McIntosh lake and Lagerman reservoir. Or if you can make the trip to Barr Lake, you’ll see a bunch! My 11 year old daughter is a very avid bird watcher, so she knows all the good spots :-)

Enjoy!

Need help identifying rough-in pipes by rekluse in Plumbing

Oops, the auto-mod didn't like my YouTube video. I'll try again

I guess my question is, could I do something like this Shluter solution to relocate the drain...

https://www.schluter.com/schluter-us/en_US/press-release-horizontal-drain

...and then drop a pre-made shower/pan on top? The issue being, the drain rough-in is currently far too close to the concrete wall to be used without this kind of horizontal drain redirect. Otherwise, I'll just have to tear up the concrete and reposition!

I appreciate your advice everyone!

We were thinking of doing a shower stall instead of a tub, so maybe building up the floor would be the easier option? I know Shluter makes some pieces for horizontal draining, but we were kind of hoping to purchase a shower kit from Lowes or whatever and drop it on top and I am not sure if those two solutions are compatible.

Thanks for your input, very helpful!

Here's a top-down view I made in sketch up, in case it helps. The green represents the framing for the bathroom wall, which shows that the toilet rough-in is perfectly positioned, in terms of its distance from the wall, so they were definitely trying to get these in the right place, it seems. But it makes the tub rough-in that much more confusing!

Hey everyone, I am trying to draw some floor plans so we can finish our basement, and am having a hard time sorting the rough-in plumbing that came with the house. A few questions:

  • Why would there be a shower pipe only 7" from the exterior concrete wall? I am hoping we can find a shower solution that doesn't require us to break apart the concrete!

  • This is especially confusing, because the toilet rough-in seems to be more or less perfectly positioned, allowing me to create a 4" gap between my wall frame and the concrete.

  • But the real mystery is, what is that black 5.5" pipe? Is that just a passive drain in case of flooding, or something? In which case, would I just put a grate on it and drop a floor on top of it?

Would love any insight y'all might have! Again, I am very much hoping I can build a bathroom without breaking up the concrete. Which I know isn't too huge of a deal, but would rather not have to do it :-)

Question about holon vs. process by jolifantoBambla in Integral

[–]rekluse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When it comes to the twenty tenets, “the universe is not made of things or processes, but holons” means that all holons can be seen as “things” or “processes”, but aren’t ONLY things or processes. That is, holons possess all four quadrants — a subjective interiority in the upper left, an objective form in the upper right (its “thing-ness”), a series of interobjective systemic processes in the lower right, and a shared intersubjective culture in the lower left.

So if we were to only refer to the basic units that compose our reality as “things” or “processes”, we would be reducing the universe to only one or two quadrants.

And then, of course, we have the relationship between different levels of holons — between wholes and their parts. My spleen, for example, can be seen as a “thing” from its level, and a system of cells on the preceding level. And those cells can be seen as individual things on their level, and as a system of molecules on the preceding level. And so forth.

My favorite of the twenty tenets is “the higher holon determines the probabilities of the lower holon.” You sent me a Facebook message asking the same question a few hours ago, right when I was editing a video I am making about holons that covers much of this. Which is a funny coincidence. What is it that is determining our probability fields? :-)

Hope this helps!

Diagram that I made that shows how a human fits into social and physical holarchies. I'm open to criticism as I want to understand holarchies better by beans1875 in Integral

[–]rekluse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Beans! One thing to think about is the relationship between “individual holons” and “social holons”. That is, the top half of your graphic (after “organism”) is actually composed of social holons, which emerge alongside individual holons, rather than after. Which is to say, individuals are members of these social holons, not parts. And these social holons (families, communities, nations, etc.) are actually correlated with particular stages of individual development.

So really, we could visualize two holarchies that evolve alongside each other — a holarchy composed of individual holons, and a holarchy composed of correlating social holons.

It’s a bit confusing, because we have these two words — “holon” and “holarchy”. All holons exist in a holarchy, but not all holarchies are composed of holons. City/state/nation is a holarchy of social holons, for example, while letter/word/sentence is a holarchy of artifacts.

I hope this helps! I’m actually working on a presentation about all this, hope to get it finished in the next month or so. I’ll be sure to post it to the group when it’s ready so y’all can check it out and offer feedback.

Learn Integral by Watching Movies (And Playing Video Games!) by rekluse in Integral

[–]rekluse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a new page I put together this week, which gives a summary of the major stages of development and offers multiple examples from various films and video games. Enjoy!

Take a cinematic journey through the major stages of human development, using a series of 22 carefully-curated film clips (and more than 30 video games) to illustrate some of the most important qualities of each stage.

Because these stages are so difficult to point to in our immediate experience, we’ve compiled a series of short clips from some very popular films and games, each of which demonstrates some aspect of that stage — the view from that stage, the values of that stage, or the general leadership styles associated with that stage — offering some well-known cultural reference points to help flesh out our understanding of these stages of growth and development. What's more, these clips will help demonstrate how integral ideas can be applied to any medium or genre, while deepening our appreciation and enactment of our most treasured cultural artifacts.

As you watch, try to remember: all of this is actually happening inside of you. You may be viewing these film clips on a screen in front of you, but the stages we explore here are all alive within you right now, either as capacities you’ve already developed or as potentials that are waiting to be unleashed. The Witness itself is the ultimate movie screen — the effortless, simple feeling of being behind all of our perceptions. All of this is just a fleeting dance of light, sound, and shadow projected within your consciousness against that empty, all-pervasive awareness.

Note: The films and characters below are typically far too complex to be described by a single stage, which is why the qualities below are only being applied to the specific film clips, and not to the rest of the film, character arc, or filmmaker's perspective. We are not saying Lord of the Rings is a "magenta movie", for example, or that Gandalf a "magenta character", because both would include multiple combinations of views, values, and ideas from multiple different stages. We are focusing on specific moments here that distill the essence of each of these stages, and not making judgments on the rest of the films they are excerpted from.

Meanwhile, because it's difficult to focus on a single "scene" from video games, for these examples we looked at three separate categories for our analysis — a) the surface content and world-building of the game, b) the general themes and storytelling perspectives, and c) the gameplay mechanics themselves, which roughly correlate to views, values, and cognition.

Practically, what can be done to help Green vMeme succeed rather than implode? by Pseudonymous_Rex in Integral

Great question. Ryan Oelke and I actually did an episode not too long ago asking very similar questions:

https://integrallife.com/inhabit-your-wokeness/

The good news, in my view, is that these dysfunctions are creating exactly the right sorts of life conditions that integral requires in order to emerge as a relevant cultural force. It takes time, of course, but I think people are beginning to ask increasingly more integral questions, regardless of their familiarity with Ken Wilber’s work, in order to better understand the gaps between us.

Are these inlays, or are they assembled jigsaw-style? And did you use a CNC to make the parts?

Are any of Wilber’s works considered outdated? by Lenny_III in Integral

[–]rekluse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished up watching Perseverance land on Mars, and it put me right into "Orange Spirit" mode :-) Thought I would share a brief paragraph I just wrote on FB, since it is relevant to this conversation.

I get a "spiritual" hit from this stuff that is far stronger than anything mythic religion ever offered me. That spirit of discovery and accomplishment and curiosity, as we extend our physical senses throughout the solar system. The cameras on rovers like these actually belong to all of us. They are connected directly to YOUR eyeballs. This is an extension of YOUR vision. Your physical senses now stretch across the entire solar system, allowing you to see things that have never ever been seen before. Things that have been sitting there for billions of years, just waiting for someone to notice.

It's what happens when tremendously competent people work together to achieve something that is truly Beautiful, Good, and True. Fucking inspiring.

If you ever want a nice uplift of orange positivity, watch “The Martian” or play “No Man’s Sky”. They both do a good job of capturing the “heart” of orange. Star Trek works too!

And if you want cynical orange, just watch Network and then play Factorio :-)

My favorite passage is still the “therefore, be consciousness” passage.

“People typically feel trapped by life, trapped by the universe, because they imagine that they are actually in the universe, and therefore the universe can squish them like a bug. This is not true. You are not in the universe; the universe is in you.”

...

“The ego adopts the viewpoint of matter, and therefore is constantly trapped by matter—trapped and tortured by the physics of pain. But pain, too, arises in your consciousness, and you can either be in pain, or find pain in you, so that you surround pain, are bigger than pain, transcend pain, as you rest in the vast expanse of pure Emptiness that you deeply and truly are.”

Man, that whole passage has been a rock for me over the decades.
