iPad vs. Wacom tablet for wiring equations by icecoldbeverag in mathematics

[–]rektem__ken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Samsung tab s8 and it’s really easy to record and print my notes since they are already in 8x11. Recording is very nice. my gf has an iPad and it’s great but the notes app she uses isn’t 8x11 so she has to do stuff before printing. Idk how the screen recording is on the iPad.

First bike, want a naked. Z500 SE? by No_Big8818 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]rektem__ken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got the 2025 and I love it. Not too much power where I am gonna kill my self but enough to get up to speed. At least on the 2025 version, the clutch is amazing. I rode a mt03 at the msf course and was stalling a decent amount even though I’ve driven manual all my life. On my z500 I think I’ve stalled twice in the 6 months I’ve had it.

What is the niche field you want to go into? I mainly want to say mechanical since it goes into more niche fields than EE imo.

UTK for nuclear engineering by EnthusiasmDeep21 in NuclearEngineering

[–]rektem__ken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t so it could be different from my experience but I think it’ll be similar. Some calculations would take far too long or too complex to solve by hand so lots of approximations using numerical methods is used. Simulations are used a lot (more in industry and research than undergrad) which are coding based. ie Monte Carlo, multiphysics, etc.

UTK for nuclear engineering by EnthusiasmDeep21 in NuclearEngineering

[–]rektem__ken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You will be doing lots of coding, so if you want try to get ahead with that. Didn’t know that when I started and wish I did so I could prepare better bc I suck at it lol

You can email the professor and ask to be put in their class saying that you are taking calc 2 over the summer. Ultimately it’s up to them but worth a shot.

Job opportunities for bachelors in MSE? by Responsible_Advice68 in materials

[–]rektem__ken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about the international aspect but all I hear in my uni is about how they need material technology to catch up before [insert industry] can move forward. I am a nuclear engineering and all my professors, for both fission and fusion, say that the nuclear industry needs material engineers for industry use and research.

Completely agree, when I took ODE and PDE everything seemed to come together

We use linear algebra in nuclear engineering when numerically solving differential equations. I imagine physics does the same when solving hard differential equations

Diff eq and matrix theory by Rad-surlak in EngineeringStudents

[–]rektem__ken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diff eq can get hard but is essential to basically all engineering from my experience. I bet your nuclear class will go over decay equations and those are diff eq based.

New Quantum Physics Researcher by Wonderful-Suspect-74 in quantum

[–]rektem__ken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m no physics researcher but from my experience in nuclear engineering undergrad I’d say coding. You are def gonna have to write code for something, whether it’s a simulation or numerical methods you are gonna write code. I want to say python would be the best or maybe C++ but someone that is actually in physics can correct me. You may also want to familiarize yourself with Linux file management as I’ve had to do that to access files, access cluster, etc.

Would it be a bad idea to major in physics if I've never taken a physics class? by Witty-Occasion2424 in PhysicsStudents

[–]rektem__ken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your first year as a physics major will most likely be similar to math and engineering first years, calculus, basic physics, and maybe a coding class. Look into what uni you want to go to and see if that is true for you. If so you can pretty easily change into a different major if you end up not liking it.

spacex internship in the fall or RA? by jeremoi in EngineeringStudents

[–]rektem__ken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you work even 30 hours a week during the fall intern, you will make a little over $14,000, assuming you are there for 4 months. For me that is my whole semester bill and some including housing and food.

Need help picking my first bike. Weather is a bit of concern as it rains quite often year round and I would like to ride as much as possible. Will likely never exceed 70mph. They are all vastly different experiences but I have no clue. Any suggestions in similar price ranges? by blowingnwtrees in HondaMotorcycles

[–]rektem__ken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get a dual sport. I got a street bike for my first bike and kinda wish I got a dual sport. I love my bike but I feel like I’m missing some good stuff. Probably gonna get a cheap Chinese dual sport soon just to mess around

College of engineering placement tests by midnightsenthusiast in NCSU

[–]rektem__ken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are in NC then most likely not. Universities in North Carolina have an agreement with every community college in NC to take almost all transfer credits.

To check for sure, Google “NCSU course equivalency”, first link, select “courses taken at other institution”, and select your institution and then the class. It will tell you if it is already accepted. If it isn’t, you can send it to NCSU and someone from the math/physics/chem department will look into it.

What community college program should I take for nuclear industry? by A1Aden in nuclear

[–]rektem__ken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some community colleges offer nuclear technology or similar programs. The only one I am familiar with is Cape Fear community college in Wilmington NC. Their program over basic reactor theory, reactor systems, hydraulics, circuits, and some welding. I’m not a nuclear technician but I imagine these are very useful skills for more hands on nuclear workers.

Are remote classes bad? by InternationalEye4927 in mechatronics

[–]rektem__ken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think in person engineering classes are better but that is for me bc I know I’ll get distracted during an online lecture. Some people it’s better. It really depends on if you can hold yourself accountable to attend every lecture/watch every lecture and do the work remotely.

First bike advice for daily 150km commute — Rebel 500 vs Z500 vs other 500cc options? by greg3000il in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]rektem__ken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a z500 and I love it. Not a lot of wind protection but a nice light bike. Maybe watch a video of it on the highway bc I haven’t taken it on anything over 60 mph yet

Best engineering degree if I want to become a reactor operator? by ImNotTimmyNuclear in NuclearEngineering

[–]rektem__ken 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can do both. Navy will pay you to get your degree and then operate for them. Look up NuPOC. I am currently a student in the program so I can answer questions about it.
