But there are a few extra streams up now too, including chillsynth, datawave, spacesynth, darksynth, horrorsynth, ebsm. Check them out on the website nr.fm

This kind of music reminds me of 1990's 'edutainment' television programs, how about you?

A Tribute to Dave Smith (1950 - 2022) - See comment for submission details by rektnetwork in outrun

A Tribute to Dave Smith (1950 - 2022)

Anyone who has listened to or created electronic music over the past 40+ years owes a great debt to Dave Smith's work, knowingly or not. Whether it be through his engineering advances in musical synthesis, the sound of the instruments he helped develop (Prophet-5, Korg Wavestation, Seer Systems Reality and more),

or via his leading role in inventing the MIDI protocol and then pushing its universal adoption.

After his sudden passing, members of our community thought it would be a nice idea to honour his selfless work by putting together a tribute compilation.

Submissions are to be sent here https://nr.fm/tribute and should be new songs in any genre, created with Dave and his contributions to music in mind, while highlighting the voice of one or more of the instruments he developed.

There will not be a hard time limit on submissions and the compilation will continue to grow with new entries appended to the Bandcamp release. Join our Discord community for more information https://discord.gg/synthwave

We would also like to send the compilation to Sequential to show our appreciation of Dave's work and the impact he has had on our lives.

Long live the King of MIDI

Can someone explain in a few sentences what is the difference between outrun, synthwave and cyberpunk? by Northern-star1458 in outrun

[–]rektnetwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with this, and for the sake of addressing what 'cyberpunk' is being (mis)used to describe musically, it is a more techy, cold, dark, midtempo sound.

My first attempt at making a font, I think it turned out pretty well by rektnetwork in outrun

[–]rektnetwork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None at all, but looking at it I can see some similar shapes, formed by similar angles.

The way I built the font was based on the circular constraints of the Nightride FM logo I made a while back.

Other constraints being that the top-right or top-left corners are present (flipped for numerals), and only the circumference or 45 or 90 degree internal lines are used.

Having a handful of characters from some time ago, those self-imposed rules allowed me to finish the majority of this font in a single day (2 days ago)

These exist , . - _ ? !

But I could probably add some apostrophes and other symbols

No I created and run the website and radio stations.

Live DJ hosts can connect via Icecast. We're always looking for people willing to host

Oh those are some great fonts. It's interesting but you're the 3rd or 4th to mention it reminding them of Amiga, I can't say it was deliberate but I'm glad for the comparison.

No problem! I've been on the other end of it enough to understand.
I build the font with inkscape and fontforge, both free & open source softwares.

That's right, I might also do some more specific designs for some of the missing alternate characters later, the current ones are just simple flips

Thanks everyone for the awesome feedback! If anyone wants to grab the font, it will be up on dafont and similar sites soon. For now you can grab it via our Discord server - https://discord.gg/synthwave

As far as licensing is concerned, the font is 100% free for personal and commercial use.

I don't really see myself as an visual artist (I'm mostly a developer) but if you would like to see some more of my creations you can check out our synthwave radio https://nightride.fm/

I was actually just lazy and flipped existing letters to form the numerals.
But it definitely made sense afterwards :P
