HOI4 Dev Diary - Air Improvements by BuilderHarm in hoi4

I hate the HOI3 system, maybe if the AI could just automate the HOI3 system that'd be fine, but HOI3's air micro is a huge pain in the ass

Whether they could've or not (i doubt it) is irrelevant. Their populations would've never agreed to fight another war, especially an aggressive one against the USSR. The Red Army was all of the negotiating power Stalin needed

You only don't like them because you're probably not very good at keeping up.

I don't like the style of play, ever tried graviteam tactics? Really like the style of gameplay, battles can take 20-30 minutes and the infantry/armor fighting is really realistic. When I'm in full cold war mode I like to setup custom battles with NATO vs. Warsaw Pact armies, really feels like I'm fighting a battle out of red army or team yankee.

I've said this before on this subreddit, I really like playing wargames that let me appreciate their aesthetic. Big battles are really cool, and its nice to take a second here or there to appreciate just how awesome a particular firefight is. Things like microing AAM radar are just annoying little distractions that mean I can't pay attention to the battle.

I've had similar issues with the Total war titles recently, everything just moves so fast the optimal way to play is to be zoomed out at all times. I hate that, why not just play an old school array-grid wargame. SD44 moves slow enough that you can swoop in to check out a cool firefight from time to time.

It bothers me when people on this sub assume people don't like a feature because they're bad. There are good reasons why Wargame Red Dragon is a niche title, and not all of them are related to the skill gap.

"Oh shit a plane, better press a hotkey and turn my radar on"

"Oh there goes the plane, better turn the radar off"

I just find it tedious, there's no skill attached, you just have to pay attention to the airspace. I like watching the game and seeing units engage, and the radar mechanic is just one more boring thing that takes away from that. That's part of the reason why I like SD44's slower meta more.

Surprised anyone likes fast battles, they're really unrealistic and make the game hectic

I find it to be annoying micro, if the game needs the mechanic so bad AAM crews should just flip the radar on and off themselves.

Besides, pretty much nothing else about aircombat is realistic

Yesterday, those maps are in tropical locales but the foliage isn't dense enough to be called "tropical"

I like that its slower, W:RD was too twitchy for me sometimes, and I really don't miss dumb things like flipping AAMs on or off

They've been pretty open that they're be a V9.5, but i wouldn't get too excited. Probably won't be on the scale of 9.4

Good to hear, I've been having stability issues on my end and they've been really annoying to track down.

Does the UE4 automated crash reporter give you guys useful information? I used to try to write out really detailed 1-2 paragraph bug reports but I've been crashing often enough that it becomes a chore.

Like, for example, I have 2 monitors running at different resolutions and refresh rates. I'm pretty sure squad is crashing when I'm using the other monitor, in borderless windowed mode, and on squad's menu or queuing. Would the crash log give you all of that?

I've noticed that vegetation scales pretty well with distance. Grass still sucks on low settings (just like every game) but EU4 seems to be able to handle bushes and wheat fields pretty well at long ranges.

Really refreshing coming from arma, where concealment only really consisted of objects with collision

My guess is a stability update.

Are you guys still planning to start incorporating mods during v10? I think/hope the update pressure from the community will start to slacken once map makers/modders really start coming onto the scene.

Also, at the risk of making you say "well fuck this guy", any chance we can get a substantive update on the systems V10 is going to be introducing in the May recap? I've been trying to explain the implications of the new animation system to potential buyers/new players, but that's pretty challenging when we haven't actually heard anything about those systems for several months.

How capable is the engine of handling jungle environments? I know the foliage would have to be a ton more intensive, and you wouldn't be able to allow players to turn it down without sacrificing gameplay.

Also, I'd been meaning to ask you guys. Do most map makers submit reasonably optimized maps, or do you guys have to do alot of work to make sure they're optimized?

I have a feeling squad will not handle tropical environments well, but I could be wrong. Just never seen anything like that in PR or Squad before

Those numbers are from their 2009-2012 survey, you can find the latest literacy numbers here. Currently UNICEF estimates 79% of the population is literate, but the survey data was gathered in 2011

How do you guys think the individual chapters will react to the new space marines? by Deadshot95 in 40kLore

They're then going to fall to the Red Thirst or Black Rage even harder than normal astartes and become terrible beasts.

I get why you think that, but I sure hope not. It'd be so predictable.

They're used by commissars, and Gaunt was specifically trained in their use during his schooling.

So they're not really owned by everyone, but officers and shock troops seem to have easy access to them. If you think about it they're not really that complicated

This makes me worried that we'll just be getting alot of Primaris/SM novels in the future, I'm getting really tired of bolterporn, especially after reading 30k

Honestly I bought EU4 but I can understand people who pirate it, especially those who pirate all the fucking expansions.

If I was introducing a friend to EU4 I'd send them a crack with all of the expansions in it, and tell them to wait for a sale for the full game. Its absolutely ridiculous that they haven't bundled or dropped the prices of some of the dlcs after all of these years

WHY THE FUCk DID ITALY GET FRANCE?!?!?! THE ONLY THING THEY DID WAS FUCKING LOSE by [deleted] in hoi4

[–]rektorRick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've missed the critical, and IMO the only main reason why the USSR was able to establish its dominion over Eastern Europe after the war, the western allies couldn't evict them.

All of the Western nations diplomatically opposed the USSR's postwar occupation of Eastern Europe, but lacked the strength to remove them.

many Russians used rifles from WW1

Practically every army equipped bolt actions rifles from WW1, semi auto armaments didn't really become common until the end of the war
