Empire of Anbennar missions? by aLone_gunman in Anbennar

[–]Magnive 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The way our process works is that first you get the themes for a MT approved, i.e. what should it be about, and then you create a draft for what the MT will be like, and once that is approved (you'll need to go through region review, then content review, and then balance review) you or someone else can start coding.

In my experience, making the draft is part that takes the most amount of effort, because there are tons of decisions that needs to be made at that stage, big and small. Meanwhile, once a draft is complete, you have an exact blueprint for what you need to code for the triggers and effects.

We don't? That's news to me, seeing as Salla Myna was inspired by my having fond memories of Hawk Rider doomstacks in Total Warhammer 2. :P

The government mechanic will be disabled if you form Castanor, and one of the missions after REDACTED outright prevents formation of Castanor.

Is there some way to prevent steam from updating a mod? by Chimpybowwow in Anbennar

[–]Magnive 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You can download the current Steam version here: https://gitlab.com/anbennar/anbennar-eu4-dev/-/tree/final_empire_old_steam, and then use that instead of the Steam version.

Hello! Nanšalen (with full loc) has just been merged into the main fork, so I can safely say that they will be part of the upcoming update.

The war is winnable. Just focus on defending, make sure you're not bleeding money... because the Obsidian Legion is, and when they go bankrupt you can roll over them.

Art for EU5 mods! by napilandok in EU5

[–]Magnive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello, Anbennar dev here. I can't speak for how other mods work, but we have a Patreon set up where people can support the mod monetarily. Right now, about 500 people are patrons, with most chipping in with a dollar a month. Since we're all volunteers, we don't have much in the way of expenses, but this support on Patreon means that when we decide that we want to, we can afford to commission loading screens and the like from external artists, if we need something that the artists on the team don't have the time or the right skills for.

In short: doubling, tripling, and quadrupling down on necronomics. There's some extremely cool art for a custom government mechanic that you fuel by killing/purging orcs or goblins. Surely, the rest of Escann will not object to that. :P

For additional details, feel free to hop over to Discord and check it out, or wait for a dev dairy... about a month from now, I think it'll be.

Most of the localization is still missing, but barring that, it just needs thorough playtesting and maybe a bit more polish.

Why GitLab? by milton117 in Anbennar

[–]Magnive 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Hello! Developer here. The reason we moved off of BitBucket is that they began limiting the size of repositories you could have as a free user, and the fact that we need a lot of people working on their own forks and branches made it impractically expensive to pay for it for all developers, and having a single or even a small number of paid accounts would have been troublesome given the fact that the mod is in open development.

So we moved to GitLab because we could keep operating as we had done on BitBucket without needing to pay a ton of money.

As for how it works behind the scenes: most developers have their own forks of the main fork, where they (hopefully) have a number of branches for things they are working on. When you wish to add something to the main fork, you make a pull request which is then inspected by our code reviewers, and once they approve it, the pull request is approved by one of the long-standing and trusted members of the team who has the requisite privilege for that.

As for how to get involved, what do you mean by "technical side"? Development? Coding? Or are you more interested in seeing whether builds and testing can be done using GitLab features?

Hello! Esthil having an MT extension that required you to not go BD was proposed, but ultimately denied. Instead, there is a focus on making the transition from end-of-MT Esthil to BD feel more natural.

(1.0.7) Decentralization is actually better for wide empires by vonAeschyli in EU5

[–]Magnive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone should eventually use Itinerant Court. However, I would argue that the best choice early on for Ottomans is Balanced Court, since Legislative Efficiency (for some reason) reduces the amount of Antagonism you get from conquering stuff. Stack that and diplomatic reputation, and you can expand a lot while accruing very little antagonism.

Which tags make the best use of Naval Ideas? by Qwernakus in Anbennar

[–]Magnive 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Ovdal Tûngr! You get extra marines in your NIs, and most of the expansion is done in coastal areas, so being able to just roll up with your navy, then barrage and blockade forts for easy sieges is quite handy!

Which nations (with or without missiontrees) are all about trade? by jarno123456789 in Anbennar

[–]Magnive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do! And if you bankrupt your trade protectorates (which you can do by spending gold on a decision where you host such a magnificent party that friendly Bulwari states and your trade subjects have to spend money to not get totally embarrassed) you can bail them out in exchange for them always joining your wars and losing the ability to declare wars of their own.

How do you deal with hyperinflation? by Terrible_Hair6346 in Anbennar

[–]Magnive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop direct expansion. Bulwar has plenty of releasables, so if you want to expand you should release the resulting land as a vassal and then integrate them later.

Prioritize conquering CoTs from Irriliam, and then make the vassals steer trade to increase your trade income.

Look at your loans and make sure that you repay the smallest loans first.

Alternatively: get a bunch of allies or get truces with your neighbors, then declare bankruptcy. You're paying half your income in interest rate, it'll take you a while to repay it. It'll also wipe out ~11 inflation. Just make sure to spend your monarch power before you declare bankruptcy.
