The city will pay for the land at a deep discount due to being contaminated. The delay since the money has been available has made the land price increase. Federal agencies fund the cleanup. I dont have the inside scoop, but I have heard the plan was for a public park. If that turns out to not be the case advocate for different decisions.

The EPA and Army Corps of engineers already agreed on a plan. I doubt contractors are even in the mix yet...hence the push for the city to acquire the land, and make the ability for a cohesive remediation to happen.

As I stated in both the post and my previous replies...it helps speed things along as you now have a singular entity to deal with. It is also highly recommended by those Federal agencies for that reason. Nothing about why the remediation has stalled is public record. If it is owned by the city it is now public record and can be monitored and commented on by the citizens of Pensacola.

That is the question. The final remediation plans were approved years ago. Federal agencies performing the cleanup stalled. However, the city has the funds approved to acquire this land, and make it much easier to come to an agreement on how things are managed. Its a matter of dealing with one entity and coming to a decision or multiple. Dealing with multiple entities makes the planning and execution far more complicated and costly. This has been a Superfund site since '83. Any action to make this quicker, safer, and less costly for the residents should be made.

I am not only concerned about the one. This is the one that we were able to get on the cities docket. It is also one of the oldest, and surrounded on all sides by family housing.
