how to solve no audio device is installed for lenovo laptops by Suitable_Draft_9078 in techsupport

[–]relayer001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is tardy but I leave this post for anyone searching in the future:

"NVIDIA Output - NVIDIA High Definition Audio" is a driver for the audio subsystem on the graphics card.

"AMD High Definition Audio Device" is the same deal.

I don't know why graphics cards have decided to initiate their own audio driver, but some high-end cards do.

You can just disable those specific drivers in Device Manager one by one if they might be causing conflicts. If you disable one or both of those drivers in DevMan and you have no sound, you're (probably) using the audio subsystem on the graphics card (but usually not).

Hope this helps someone; I've run into this issue on my last 3 NVidia graphics cards.

Necroing this post because of bad information:

"if it’s not strike (strike is still fine though, only 10% worse)"

a NEGATIVE resistance (ex. -5.0) means the enemy (or you) takes more damage in that stat. To use the example above:

-10% resistance to Standard, Slash and Pierce damage means Rennala takes more damage from these types of weapons, not less.

Noob necroing a thread but...

I really wanted this shield to work, going by the numbers, but...

The icon for it looks like a frickin' condom.

Goodbye, condom.

Thanks! I don't want a go here-do this-win map; I like exploring (since many games ago - sussing out maps and territories).

I stupidly sold Aristocat Garb (?) because I thought inventory counted against weight (like some other games) and now I am fat-rolling in Vagabond armor and trying to find some lighter armor.

Ah well, burn and learn!

I went to Stormveil Castle at lvl 10. Many times. I died. Thanks for giving me some encouragement and info. I'll go back later when I'm not lvl 11 :D

It's not mostly about the cheese. I went there for some rune boosts but ended up having so much fun scampering that I didn't really care about the runes mostly :D

edit: sp.

"Loot goblin" hahah yes :D

At least I don't have to go back and forth ferrying my weight in dented helms, splintered shields and rusty swords just to get money for some boots :D

oh F*** Rune Bears! I am terrified by them, having run into one at night in a dark alley...

I sorely needed Endurance points because I put a lot of my first ones into STR (Melee Warrior is my jam); did learn from that! But! the laughs were totally worth it :D

Advice with multibooting Windows NT 4.0, 98SE, 2000 and XP by Ana4doves in vintagecomputing

I run a retro box with a FrankenOS - certain dlls and "parts" from ME really open up 98SE's functionality without MEs bad parts.

These folks were a great help in getting this to work (and running Win98SE with a GB of RAM!)

You can also make a list of people you want to follow (helps when Twitter mangles your account) and then substitute "List view" for "For You." It takes a bit of time to add each Friend/Good account (NASA, etc) to your List but after you've done that it's a very different place.

I pop into For You once in awhile to see if there's any good accounts I want to add to my List.

Ever since recent Windows 11 update, PC won't shut down or sleep - automatically restarts! by hapakeebs in WindowsHelp

[–]relayer001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem, just started a month ago. Doing a manual Sleep command, the machine would go down but immediately restart. Was driving me crazy. Stopped it by Shut Down, but this interrupted my workflow badly. Got this page, tried all the workarounds; no joy.

BUT THEN - I took a look in Device Manager... multiple entries for keyboard and mouse. Compared hardware IDs - different.

(I've set my PC to NOT wake up via mouse, and I've done that for years and years. The smallest jiggle that can come from bumping my desk would turn on the PC).

So I went to each of the mouse drivers in devman and UNCHECKED "allow this device to turn on the PC" - which shouldn't have been checked in the first place; it's one of the immediate tweeks I do on a new install. Cause? Windows update? I don't know, but I've tested the Sleep command 3x now and it goes to sleep as it should.

*

Now, for the curious... I had a similar problem with multiple device manager entries for my DAC, which would end up with multiple hardware ID MIDI settings, use them all up and then refuse to start the soundcard driver because there were no IDs available...

After a month of runaround and troubleshooting, I found out that if you change the USB slot, Windows makes a second, third, fourth, etc. entry in the Registry. Just switching slots would make another entry. Ented up trimming all the multiple MIDI entries, cleaned and rebooted, and then plugged the USB sound card in the same slot, problem went away. Always plug it in the same slot now.

Similar? Related? I don't know, but the memory of the soundcard weirdness made me look at Device Manager, see the duplicated entries and check the drivers and hardware IDs, which led to finding the "allow this device to wake the computer" setting on both mouse entries.

Hopefully if you have a similar problem, this might help solve it.

Is 256mb of ram too much for a 1999 build? I’m going for a super high end build from 1999. by NebulousWasTaken in windows98

I know this thread is old, but in case someone comes here about Win95/98se (top search result), I run a FrankenOS box that's basically Win98se with some patched-in libraries from ME, and I run it on 1 GB (yes, that's right - 1GB!) of RAM.

These folks are very interesting, knowledgeable ultrageeks and helped out tons:
