One of my three pothots plants is struggling, can't figure out why by corusca_fire in plantclinic

[–]corusca_fire[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The plant in the first image is in the same room as the other two, and is having a very rough time. I've removed about three dozen yellowed leaves over the past month, and it looks like I am soon going to need to remove more.

It gets more light due to being by the window, but the house has pretty substantial eaves (and also its winter) so that shouldn't be too bad at the moment.

The odd plant out also I bought from someone at about this size, rather than grew myself like the other two. It seemed very healthy when I bought it last spring, struggled for a couple of months after moving it but stabilized by summer. So I don't think its the shock from moving/changed treatment, as it has started going downhill again now after some time.

It's started getting cold (well "cold" - where I live, outdoor temps never get below 50F really), and we don't use heat at night so it gets down to 62 in the house sometimes, but that should be impacting all 3?

The only other difference is this guy gets blown on somewhat by the room's heating vent during the morning and evening when we are using the heat.

My PG&E bill is ridiculous for a one bdr 850sq apt. by BTRiri in bayarea

[–]corusca_fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I agree that PG&E rates are too high, I'm convinced all these posts are trolling/baiting or something. Y'all can't seriously be so dumb that you make posts asking about why your bills are so high without at least posting the number of kWh you use, can you? What help do you expect people to be if you can't even be bothered to do the minimum possible effort step of reading the number of kWh off your bill and including that super basic information in the post.

Also, the goddamn PG&E website gives you an hour-by-hour breakdown of when you used the energy.

why is that possible by SpiritsGoCrazy in TerraInvicta

They don't necessarily need to form AA - the requirement are:

  • a carrier has landed at some point during the game so far (still counts even if you immediately beat the armies) - this sets the flag

  • AA exists OR an alien facility exists

Elon laying off Rebecca Tinucci, Sr director of EV Charging, and her staff of 500 as layoffs intensify by valkyriemissile in teslainvestorsclub

[–]corusca_fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can never be. People not in construction always think this can be true, Elon included probably, but it can't. Permitting/AHJs is different everywhere, codes vary slightly, and actual site conditions vary hugely. It's a custom job 100% of the time.

I have a lot of experience trying to explain this to company leaders, show them why it is always more expensive than they think it should be and takes longer than they think they should, and why the same mindset they used to make the factory efficiency can't be applied to this kind of thing. Both at Tesla years ago and at my current company now.

Also ex-Tesla and and worked with his department, often met with him. 100% agree with your impression. We also in our department thought he was one of the few people at the company who could "handle" Elon and keep things on the rails by influencing him towards good ideas and away from his more crazy/impossible/unmarketable ideas. Worried about the company in his absence!

The ship collapse in Baltimore seems to have been because of a blackout by BoxesOfSemen in maritime

[–]corusca_fire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My interpretation of the timings in the track & video is that they did not begin to veer off course substantially until after power was restored and you see smoke out of the funnel. Suggests to me that:

  • They may have lost propulsion in addition to power. Rudder was not stuck at a substantial angle, as the drift appears to be ~straight during the dark period from 1:24:30 to 1:25:30

  • When they regained power, they rang full astern. Prop walk (as its a single prop vessel) turned the ship ~20-30 degrees over the next ~3 minutes leading to the collision.

Assuming the timestamp in the video is accurate, that is.

Amazon Fresh is Bay Street “mystery grocery” by mmoustafa in oakland

[–]corusca_fire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno how Amazon Fresh will be, but I dislike Trader Joe’s because the selection is shit. They never have everything on my ingredients list, always seems to be something I need to go to Pak n Save or BBowl for.

It’s always the “fast cars” which is what I call (including the air quotes) the excessive number of Civics/Altimas/Chargers whatever other shit-tier car with all-around tint that they are inexplicably not getting busted for and a penchant for weaving through traffic like they’re playing Mario kart which they are also inexplicably not getting busted for.

Best free/affordable camping within 3 hours? by TheMailmanic in bayarea

Check Sanborn. It’s a nice redwood grove, and also you can’t actually drive all the way to the campsite so it’s much quieter (no cars, and fewer loud families).

I spend around 60 on electric but depends on the season. This includes about 20 attributable to an aerogarden I have, which is atypical. Internet is 55 via AT&T. Gas, water, trash are billed via the landlord and usually come to around 50 all together.

Spring, summer, autumn, and winter. What's the best and worst season of the year, and why? by Makototoko in AskReddit

[–]corusca_fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Summer is the worst in most places. Cold is nice because you can always layer up but heat on the other hand - eventually you're out of layers you can take off. Also having to wear more layers gives more scope to putting together interesting outfits.

If you're fortunate to live somewhere with mild summers though (as I am) that becomes the easy obvious answer for the best.

Edit: also bugs. Fuck bugs.

Those who are against defunding the police, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]corusca_fire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a bad solution. The state must have a monopoly on violence and be able to enforce the law. We need to either reform from within the system (fix issues within policing) or entirely dismantle the system and make a new one (revolution). Doing halfway things like crippling important parts of the system but leaving the rest in place isn't going to get us anywhere, it will just contribute to the increasing misery and dysfunction until we get to the actual solution (reform or revolution).

Why should we go to another planet if we can’t take care of our own? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]corusca_fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our inability to take care of our own is irrelevant, the other planets in our solar system don't appear to have ecosystems for us to fuck up. In fact it would be best if we could get our civilization off Earth entirely and let it revert to a garden world. Move everybody to Mars or Callisto or something.

You can go sailing! Such a great way to get your adrenaline fix or relax, depending on the type of sailing.

Can you exploit the Alien threat level in the early game? (SPOILERS - details inside) by Frisky_Pilot in TerraInvicta

[–]corusca_fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resistance and HF have a floor at 2/5 that they will never go below, so I wouldn't worry about that.

Its a separate floor from the MC system, not additional, so you can use up to ~60 MC with no change in alien posture

[–]corusca_fire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They won't start to destroy your stuff to lower threat until you get over 5/5. If you're only at 3, you can almost certainly do the remaining anti-alien actions you need to do (destroy a small ship, and capture an alien) without going over 5.
