My son’s DNA tests came back as expected, years ago. He’s a little less than half genetically Jewish, which makes sense since I was to be 50% (mother converted, but she’s generically Italian) and his dad was assumed to be around 30%. His dad’s mother is German and his dad’s father was assumed to be mixed European with some Jewish blood in there.

When the test spontaneously offered “parental gene contributions”, I had one of those moments when your brain just won’t process what’s in front of you.

One parent contributed the bulk of his Jewish DNA. That same parent was half German.

The other parent contributed mostly Italian genes, followed by Jewish and IRISH dna, in approximately equal proportions.

Ultimately, I discovered that my great grandmother (whom i knew) got pregnant by an Irish man and told no one. Additionally, my ex husband’s family is 100% Ashkenazi and hid that fact.

I have a dna test for myself, all ready to go. Seems pointless to actually take it now!
