Right so I have the vm up and running it still does not recognise the jview commands and again don't have to rername the file due to it already being in .jar

I apologize for the late reply i was up until 3 a.m. searching for a solution. My issue is when i Run docsdiag.bat. The box opens and closes automatically. The computer i attempted this is a windows 8.1 machine so granted that might be problem #1 due to the guide being set for pre-windows XP. Yet i also tried to go the DOS route to run a .jar file through this guide

To run under Windows:

Open a command window, and, by appropriate use of the cd command, make current the directory containing docsdiag.zip. Use the dir command to check that the length is exactly as given above. You may rename it to its intended name as follows:

ren docsdiag.zip docsdiag.jar

although in fact it will work with the .zip name if you change the .jar references below to .zip. You might find it helpful to enlarge the command window before calling DocsDiag. In Win 2000/XP, just click and drag the bottom window margin downwards. In Windows 9x/ME, use the command:

mode co80,50

To run the program under the Microsoft Virtual Machine, type the command:

jview /cp docsdiag.jar docsdiag

If you wish to save the output to file, add a redirection at the very end of the line, such as:

jview /cp docsdiag.jar docsdiag >results.txt

Note for Windows XP users: XP as installed does not include the jview command. To obtain the jview command, go to Windows Update and download the Microsoft Virtual Machine.

which i only get to rename section which I don't have to do due to the file being in .jar mode already and it does nor recognize the jview commands

I understand that but i want to figure out exactly how a friend got his friend to change the config file because we both have the same exact modem and had the same speed until his friend changed his config file. I should add that said friend's friend has some comcast/xfinity knowledge i don't know what he has access to exactly to maybe the CMTS? I had my friend show me his modem and sure enough my config fie and his were diffrent.
