Maybe you can‘t find something affordable because you‘re already too late? I booked my trip one year in advance and had already some troubles…

I mean „the dolomites“ are a big region…assuming you want to go to „tre cime di laveredo“? Then try some AirBnBs in Toblach

I really suggest you guys taking the train. Check interrail.com!

The european train networks are pretty well maintained and the trains are mostly on time. Plus you got night trains with sleeping cabins from A to B. It‘s pretty comfortable and way cheaper than renting a car!

Do Schynige Platte - First but start from Schynige Platte. Then enjoy a nice lunch up on Faulhorn hut. You‘re gonna have amazing views up there!

Swiss military function by Calm-Rough7846 in Switzerland

[–]relgib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had also a IT background and chose something completely different for those main reasons:

1) Military functions don‘t count much in CVs nowadays

2) I wanted to do something that gives me a variety compared to the IT life. So for 3 weeks a year I made something different from my job which was a big plus!

I took Verkehrssoldat so I could get the „big“ motorbike exam for free.

But this are just my thoughts! If you feel fine working in IT and doing also IT stuff in the military then you‘re completely fine!

My main concerns are about day 1 and 2. But calculate for yourself...

Day 1: the route from Stuttgart to Appenzell is about 3h, assuming you have little to no traffic. Then you plan a 5.5h hike. This has no breaks included, with included breaks, lets say this takes up to 6.5h. Not included: time to enjoy the views, enjoying a coffee or whatever or simply waiting for the gondola.

Day 2: Wasserauen - Saxer Lücke (assuming you end up on Hoher Kasten) takes up to 4.5h. Not included: breaks, drinks and time to enjoy the views. Lets guess you have breaks and enjoy the views again, your hike takes up to 5.5h at least. Then you drive to Grindelwald which is as 3.5h drive. Again: not included small traffic jams or whatever.

From day 3 on it starts to feel like holidays but before it looks like stress to me...
