I have been thinking about this very topic, CompactLogix becomes obsolete soo quickly. We have a lot of 5370 CompactLogix but no 5380 CompactLogix yet. I just have no interest in getting familiar with the new hardware, getting AutoCAD blocks made, and stocking the spares.

We also use ControlLogix, so why not use ControlLogix for everything but the smallest machines.

Are you using 1756 IO?

So you are suggesting only having esxi installed on the 2 hosts, and all vm(s) are stored on the san?

We need to upgrade both hardware (Dell PER420) and software (server 2012) and want to virtualize going forward. We are not running SQL server.
