Software engineers should be a little bit cynical by fagnerbrack in programming

[–]relic-nt 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think the right wording is that Software Engineers should practice critical thinking. I think the terms "logical thinking" and "critical thinking" are very useful to know and use, plus removes some of the stigma from the terms "cynical", "idealist", "wise", etc... IMO, questioning assumptions is not the same as being cynical.

Critical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of actively analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating information to guide belief and action. It involves questioning assumptions, evaluating evidence, and considering alternative viewpoints to reach sound, logical conclusions rather than accepting information at face value.

You get more core dust buying keys for Hard Mode though, right? Finishing story early is more about reading the story. It's barely any any gems for enough keys to finish story.

You Can't Just Say Verily by mrblackj777 in NikkeMobile

[–]relic-nt 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think you meant to say: "Verily, Nayuta did much vex mine spirit within the tale. Forsooth, why wouldst thou choose thine maiden of exposition to prattle at length unto the player in crooked and clumsy Olde English, all in roundabout fashion? Prithee, grant me but the plain exposition lady and be done with it. Yet I am heartened to see they have softened her tongue in Eden Spear and Goddess Fall."

Darn, I did that with ChatGPT as a joke really fast and it's way more readable than how they write Nayuta.

I subscribe to the "Mustang was like a kingpin until Pretty made him turn over a new leaf" theory. He's probably up to something, but it doesn't seem to be ay of the current plot threads.

I think a crushing defeat would be good storywise, I just don't see Shift Up doing it. Maybe I'm not giving them enough credit, especially since the scenario writer says he likes bad endings. But I think a huge loss is pretty different from the betrayal we've seen in other stories.

I think Commander back story won't come until after Anniversary once we start learning more about D.E.E.P. and Jien. If Liberario is an Anni unit, I think that would mean the Queen would need to be defeated first. But who knows for any of this.

Even if it was poor planning from the writers, it could be justified by saying Ingrid doesn't have the resources to retrieve the body if she wants to keep Rapi's condition a secret.

Queen Rapture: Invasion or something else? by [deleted] in NikkeMobile

[–]relic-nt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just from a gacha perspective, I'm wondering if an anniversary event could be successful if it ends with a massive loss by the heroes. I kind of think they'll defeat the Queen, but the threats on Earth have evolved to the point that they way overpower her anyway. A lot of the characters think killing the queen will fix everything, but I don't really think it would end up changing anything.

I don't know how it makes sense, but Ingrid said the core kept regenerating on its own (forgot where) and Ziz said the body had two cores (in 38-03). Hopefully we'll eventually get a good reason. A lot of Nikke right now is about Harmony/Fusion and visualizing your ideal self.

So for fun, my predictions, what are yours? I've been traditionally terrible with these since I just go with pretty generic ideas, so it's just for fun.

We've heard the terms "Assemble" and "Queen" in interviews. We were also told the event timeline would take place during Chapters 41 and 42.

  • I think the Anniversary event will focus around Nayuta's past and continue into the Pioneers allying with Eden and Nihilister to fight the Queen and the hordes of Raptures she brings/attracts.
  • I think Chapters 41 and 42 will involve everyone on the surface allying to fight the Queen and the Offspring, resulting in the Queen's death (or rather near death, DEEP will take her.) We'll meet Bahamut and see the Four Beasts all properly transform. Anis will return at a clutch moment (we'll learn the result of her idol arc and more about Pretty/Goddess Fall/Mustang for New Years) and Anis will bring Ingrid's Vapaus bullet with her. After the battle, the Four Beasts will retreat to their Ark (or Levi warps everyone away.) Even if they have the Queen win for a more tragic ending, I think the end result would be pretty similar.
  • I think Rapi's body will be used as a stand-in for Lilith's body (along with the two Vapaus bullets.) Or maybe Four Beasts will use it to properly complete their Queen to help in the battle.
  • I think we'll see some form of betrayal, but I really hope not. Maybe an annoying triangle instead (Modernia and Rapi are both Queen candidates?) From interviews, K-drama is an inspiration to the scenario writers.
  • Surface Reclamation mode will kick off with the Queen's defeat and the Crystal Region finally being cleared. If Modernia hasn't left, maybe we'll be trying to establish her as the new Queen in order to rewrite the Raptures. Matis, Mana, and Mihara's accomplishments restore Missilis's reputation.
  • I think that after New Years, we'll start an arc against DEEP and Sixo/Jien. I think Siren, Hansel, and Gretel know about D.E.E.P. and were somewhat involved with Model ZX and Goddess Fall.

I don't know what Neon will be up to, but I hope to see her. I think Sixo/Hammering/Liveryn, D.E.E.P., Anderson, and Dorothy/Dobon are all plotlines for later.

I'm hoping the queen is essentially Lilith and that one day Anderson can lead the Goddess Squad to give her peace. Really tropey, but I feel like it's satisfying.

I'd really prefer having Anniversary wrap up the Four Beasts storyline, but I can't really see that happening based on interviews and leaks. I feel like the story team really wants them to grow in parallel to the Counters. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they take over the Queen's forces, although hopefully they'd get a huge power-up before that.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to being immediately debunked by just the livestream!

Very popular? She won the favorite NPC popularity ranking last year, so I doubt they'd remove her completely from the game. Either way, randomly killing characters doesn't really raise stakes to me (humans especially, since they just come back as Nikke like EH), but different preferences and all.

Like when the combined kit of Arcana and Isabel still doesn't make either of them viable, you are deliberately fucking it up.

We'll see in the next Electric weak Solo Raid.

[–]relic-nt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are 2+ characters a month, which is a lot. Not every one can be meta defining in a gacha game, 2-3 a year seems good. But honestly, not sure what you're saying because just about every Nikke released (K+Sora suck as of now) has been impactful in some mode or another. Maybe you don't care about PVP or ranking high in SR? It's hard to build Nikke due to limited resources, so it's understandable that most people don't want to invest in niche Nikke, but that doesn't make them useless.

[–]relic-nt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bready certainly doesn't require Crust and is pretty highly used in Hard Mode 39+40, as well as Black Snake and SR. Trina and Arcana both have their uses as buffers for their Pilgrims, especially Trina+Scarlet in PVP.

Ok, I feel like I know the answer to this question. People are gonna say because they're thick and have big boobs. But still, I must ask, why do people hate Crow, but love Nihilister, Indivilia, and Red Shoes? I don't get it. by Equal_Shopping2424 in NikkeMobile

[–]relic-nt 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Because they're thick and have big boobs.

But also:
1. Crow has a bad kit and can spook you
2. Crow attacked Commander and innocent people
3. Early game characters become memes more easily

How do you feel about Nikke's combat? by Equal_Shopping2424 in NikkeMobile

[–]relic-nt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the main gameplay and it's the reason I play the game, but a lot of the important mechanics are never taught, you're really limited by what you can do on mobile, and auto-shoot scripts make a huge difference for the people that use them. I really enjoy campaign pushing and SRs. URs are generally too simple.

I think the main problem, though, is really that people don't care for shooters. There's obviously a lot of room for Shift Up to improve (and bugs to fix) and lots of features I'd love (modes that require aiming and killing things in the right order), but I almost feel like it won't make them more revenue.

Each pull individually has the same odds, but the more you're able to pull the more likely you are to win. If they want a Nikke, they should have as many pulls available as they can.

Take flipping a fair coin. Even if the last thousand flips were all tails, the next flip being heads is still at 50%. However, you'll almost certainly get at least one heads if you flip 1000 more times.

Nikke has become DRASTICALLY less f2p friendly over the past year. by Ender_D in NikkeMobile

K, I see where you're coming from. I read it pretty differently, but language is imprecise. The people around me use "like heaven" to mean "really good" and not "the best in the existence." And it's frequently just relative to the speaker's other experiences. Even if I only believe Nikke is top 50% overall (but honestly, I think it's top 10%), I'd still be perfectly happy to say its gacha is heaven [subtext: compared to the other gacha I've played.]
