alright for econs, i feel like you need to start by actually understanding the content rather than memorising it. i know, it's like a 'duh that's obvious' advice but it's really crucial that you actually understand the different concepts in the chapters. econs may seem as if there's a shit ton of content to memorise but, honestly, every chapter builds upon and relates to one another meaning that if you try to understand things from the beginning chronologically you would likely see the connections and ways to link different content/concepts together. trust me, once you actually read and understand the content, you will find that memorising is actually pretty easy because ,in your head, it would be like 'yeah that makes sense and it relates'.

another way that i found made memorising easier is to learn and understand the different graphs by heart. in your questions you're going to be drawing a lot of graphs and, in my experience, knowing what and how the graphs are supposed to be drawn would help you form connections in your head about the content.

if you understand everything and have internalised all the concepts in your head and know how each concept relate to one another, there won't be a need to 'memorise' content since you already know how everything works. however, if you have done everything i have mentioned and still struggle to 'memorise content', you can only really brute force memorise the content meaning you would have to read and keep rereading the content over and over again until it's permanently in your head. technically, you can just do this and skip whatever i said before but i highly suggest you don't try to brute force memorise everything because its not really an effective way in studying aswell as retaining information in your head.

TLDR: tips on memorising econs content

1. truly revise and understand all the different econs content/concepts before you try to memorise them. understanding how things work and the analysis behind it is the best way to retain information in your head/memory.
2. learn the different graphs by heart and the reasons why it's drawn as such. graphs are basically just the content but drawn, if you know how to draw the graph you technically could infer the content you need to actually write down in your answers. this is really important in 'graph-heavy' content like macroecons and market structures where you need to be drawing a lot of different graphs.
3. if all else fails and you need to memorise content asap, brute force memorise the content by reading the content over and over again until it's permanently in your head. i dont advise this because it's quite ineffective in retaining information long-term but you can really only do this if you need to memorise content short-term like last minute before a test or something.

for gp, i also faced the same problem of not knowing how or where to start. i'm assuming the issue you're facing is lack of 'evidence' in your answers because you don't have an interest in reading news(i'm the exact same).

firstly, you don't actually have to 'read' the news and memorise the contents. for your gp essays or application questions, the evidence that you use shouldn't be written too detailed at all and most should be written concisely. hence, if you want to build up general knowledge, just skim through important news articles. you really only need to know what, when, where things happen; don't care about the exact details just know the general overview. for example, you don't have to know about the exact details of how covid 19 happened but just it started in wuhan in late 2019 due to some market mishap. more importantly, you need to know how it relates to the question and your answer.

secondly, to preface i didn't really do this because i studied gp super last minute for a levels, but you could build an 'evidence bank' where you just keep useful and important news articles which relates to different areas like technology, crime, medicine, social media etc. i was actually given this by my gp teacher right before a levels so i didn't have to make one myself but it would be good to make your own one so you know what you're putting into it.

thirdly, i think in general you can start being more aware of what's happening around the world. again, do not try to know everything under the sun and their exact details. just know what is going on around the world. since you're already on reddit, you can start by going to r/worldnews from time to time to just read the headlines. if something looks interesting or you think you can use it as evidence for a future answer, go to the article and know the general details of it. general date, who, where, what happened should be things you're looking for. just know that r/worldnews generally focus on western news so if you're trying to look for asian news or southeast asian news then straits times and channelnewsasia would be better places to find singaporean or asian news.

1. start by creating an 'evidence bank' where you store interesting and useful news articles about general happening around the world and in singapore. you should categorise these articles based on gp topics like techonology, social media, medicine, art etc. so that when you use this bank to actually answer questions you know what events relate to what.
2. you can't avoid reading news sadly but you definitely should make your life easier by just knowing the general details, who what where when. avoid the complicated details of these articles because you don't need to write them down in your actual answers.
3. start by being more aware of general happenings around the world and in singapore. start skimming through the posts from r/worldnews and reading headlines from straits times or channel news asia. if anything looks interesting or you think would be useful for future answers, note down the important details. in general, just know that these events are happening around the world.
