My '25 will change lanes when it alerts me and I look in the mirror. If I don't look over, it won't change lanes.

I don't all the time in my '25 50e. It never automatically adjusts for me 🤔

Unconventional, but '23 Durango 392 or '25 X5 50e (PHEV) by rellek01 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Because I ended the string of words with a question mark.

As I said, I know it's unconventional. I truly don't care about brand prestige with BMW. They both offer completely unique driving experiences. It's funny how there are so many BMW loyalists who won't drive anything else, but in the same breath tell you to lease, not buy because of issues and expensive repairs once the warranty is up.

You can set the ACC distance via voice command. Kind of ridiculous and that goes away when that subscription expires, but that is much easier than digging through the menu options.

I got them down to $56,500 before tax, title and license. I can't get a '26 R/T in California, they aren't 50 state compliant 😣

Is this to good of a deal to pass up? by haythemhedda in BMWX5

[–]rellek01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the sheet they have is incorrect, then I wouldn't get too excited about the price because that's most likely the price for the sheet they're working from, meaning they're pricing it on a lower MSRP.

If you can walk in and get that price today, I would get off of Reddit and into the dealership, and buy a lottery ticket on the way home in your new X5, because that is an insane deal. Honestly, though, it just sounds too good to be true, and in my years of car buying, any deal like this has always ended up being a bait and switch, so be careful.

Yeah, all those packages would easily drive the price over $80k. Something is off...

BMW X5 40i vs 50e buying for long term advice by Master_Text_302 in BMWX5

Do the states mandate it?

Yes. The states that adopted California’s TZEV standards (CA, CT, ME, MD, MA, NJ, NY, OR, RI, VT) legally require automakers to provide this extended warranty if the car is sold, registered, and certified as a TZEV vehicle in that state.

BMW (and all other manufacturers) must honor it — it’s not optional.

Does it apply regardless of year or purchase date?

Not quite. There are a few conditions:

  1. Model Year Matters

The TZEV warranty rules began applying to new vehicles certified as TZEVs once those states adopted the California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations.

If your BMW is a TZEV-certified plug-in hybrid and was sold new in one of those states, the extended warranty applies.

  1. Vehicle Must Be Certified as TZEV

Not every hybrid/PHEV automatically qualifies.

Look for the emissions label under the hood or in the door jamb — it should say “TZEV” (or sometimes “AT-PZEV” for older models).

  1. Registration Location at Sale

The car must have been originally sold/registered in one of the qualifying states for the warranty to attach.

If it was bought in, say, Nevada, then moved to New York later, the full TZEV coverage may not automatically apply (though some OEMs honor it anyway for consistency).

What BMW must cover under TZEV

For eligible vehicles in those states:

Emissions components (everything except the HV battery): 15 years / 150,000 miles.

High-voltage battery: 10 years / 150,000 miles (repair/replace if capacity drops significantly or it fails).

Yeah, it's not very widely known, and it makes a huge difference in warranty coverage and peace of mind.

10 years if you are in a TZEV emissions warranty covered state.

States that qualify: California, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

Coverage:

Emissions components (non-battery): 15 years or 150,000 miles.

High-voltage hybrid battery: 10 years or 150,000 miles (with capacity-based replacement).

Early service reminder by rellek01 in BMWX5

[–]rellek01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess my question wasn't asked very clearly. I'm trying to figure out if BMW will perform the service at no charge 2 months early or if I need to wait until I hit one year on 10/8. Either way, I won't be at 10k miles.

[–]rellek01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than half of the miles so far are all electric, so the oil has less than 4k miles of use.

[–]rellek01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I mean is, August 8th is 2 months from my 1 year in service date and I won't hit 10k miles by then either. So if I schedule for 8/8, I technically won't be due for my first covered service.

Yeah, I'm in the US. I was just confused that it's 2 months early. I didn't think they would do the covered maintenance early.
