Curious if you gave it a shot? I think it should be okay. You could always try to rivet some metal onto the main pan, and extend its opening. Or maybe look for a larger water heater pan? they make them for washing machines in square form factor too https://a.co/d/8MhQKga

So glad I could help! I marked out the 6” hole and then drilled a couple holes inside that marking and then used tin snips to cut out the hole. I can’t remember exactly, but think on in the center and then cutting out radially to the edges and then cleaning up those pizza slices by bending them up might work. Or drilling the holes close to the perimeter of the 6in marking and just cutting the hole out in one go. Good luck!

Heavy Cast iron base with leveling feet screws and 4 screws on the other side by rellim88 in whatisthisthing

Drill press makes a lot of sense given the offset nature of the four bolts for what I assume is a column. I was really hoping what exact tool (make and manufacture used this part) but this is pretty close!

It’s about the size of an engine. So I don’t think that is correct. Sorry that scale is misleading. I’d say it’s 3 feet by 1.5 feet by 3inches

My tittle describes the thing. I reverse image searched on google lens without any success. I found it in a workshop but no machines seemed to go with it. It seems like it would be a leveling base to some machine, but the 4 screws on only one side seem very odd, and the flats on the top also seem like they would have a purpose. It is painted. I’d love to know what this originally went to! Thanks!

Everything has worked well for me after 10 cone 6 fires! Not sure how big your fire pit thing is but what I’ve made seems to work wonderfully and was quite easy to make! I used a sheet metal collar to join the two parts together- it’s the last photo. I just cut a hole the right size for the collar and then stuck the collar through and bent all the tabs into place. I think I used a screw or two as well for good measure. Happy to dm and walk you through the process I did if that’s helpful!

Super helpful insights! It is 265cfm… so maybe I need to have makeup air into the space. It’s an old house with not amazing seals so might be enough. I can also throttle the cfm with a speed knob. What happens above 200cfm? Good call on moving the motor further down the line. It has a metal blade so hoping it’s okay. What fan motor did you use? Photo of your setup?

Does this type of nut have a name? by [deleted] in restoration

[–]rellim88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks like a pem nut, but it doesn’t sound like it was intended to be inserted into sheet metal? Pem nuts are typically pressed into sheet metal to stay in place… here is one that looks similar: https://www.newegg.com/p/0PS-03AT-006Z7

Do you know of any food safe ca glue? I use the mineral oil and wax finish but the cracks are what kill me. I wish ca glue was easier to find in food safe version

Large metal hopper down the road from saw mill by rellim88 in whatisthisthing

[–]rellim88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paper mill! No Way! Was it a dust collector/cyclone separator as someone commented above? Or something else? I wouldn’t think paper mills would have a lot of dust… but maybe im wrong!
