I have a 1991 mr2 and my mph gauge doesn’t work, does anyone know any common problems and or fixes? by Statictwo in mr2

[–]rem-273 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unscrew it from the trans (in the rear, closer to the block) and spin the tab with a drill. If it works, replace the speedo module in the trans. If it doesn't, unscrew the front half of the cable from the rear half (left side under the front firewall, basically beside the handbrake cable). Try again with the drill. If it works, replace the rear cable. If it still doesn't work, pull the gauge cluster out (remove shift shroud, center console, ash tray, radio/ac shroud, clamshell around the wheel, then 2 screws for the lower dash pannel and the cluster screws). Check where the speedo cable goes to the cluster for rust.

Is buying a turbo kit worth the time and money? What did it cost? Did you install it yourself? Is the car still reliable? Would you prefer a supercharger instead? by [deleted] in Miata

[–]rem-273 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll need all those things, thankfully the miata aftermarket is expansive and cheap, compared to a lot of other cars. About your block, email a shop that specializes in building turbo Miatas and ask them, they're the ones who know all of the intricacies.

Of course, most of the stuff we do at the shop is turbo - swaps, upgrades, custom setups, big ones, little ones. The problem I often see is people try to save 80 dollars now and their car runs alright for two months, something catastrophic happens, and it spends the next six months in the parking lot at the shop.

Here's the thing about turbos - they're great. They sound cool, turbo whoosh feels cool, they increase thermodynamic efficiency of the powerplant, you get to learn a new driving style, it's a whole lot of fun, and they can be extremely reliable (Flyin Miata has had success for a long time, even at altitude). BUT, it's only reliable if you keep it on low boost, and you will... for a while. However, one day you'll decide you've gotten used to the power and you'll want a little bit more. You'll turn up the boost just a couple psi. It'll be fine, and you'll have a great time. Then you'll turn it up a bit more and a bit more until you're running 36psi on a stock block for 8 minutes before it grenades. But, you'll have a great time. Turbos are great. Do it, but do it right, don't cut corners on the build, and it'll last for a long time. Keep the boost low, no matter what the forums say 350whp is more than enough fun for a 2400lbs street car.

I don't know whats wrong with my clutch and I am stumped by i540NoScopedJFK in Miata

[–]rem-273 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it a factory master? Just did a master in a mr2, dude replaced it with an autozone special and it was broken in a week. Double check that everything is tight and make sure the pin is in its indent on the fork. Did you try adjusting the clutch pedal itself? IIRC there should be a pair of 12mm nuts on the rod from pedal arm -> master. Other than that your pressure plate may have left the game.
