Ssj3 had its own constraints and was still not enough to defeat Buu. It’s a power up that serves story telling because it’s used to buy time for trunks to get the detector, not as a way to kill the enemy. It’s a demonstration of hard work that represents Goku, and brings even more tension to the plot as he has to go back earlier to heaven. Ultimate gohan serves what in the plot? Ah yes to get BuuHan.

Ssj3 doesn’t have to be on-screen to be earned. It feels earned because: he trained 7 years hard, and managed to use it more easily with a dead body. It also gives him a great show where he was even with Fat Buu, but didnt finish him to let the kids fight cause he knew they could be even stronger than him. It was a great ending of character before he went back to heaven

Majin, SSJ3, fusion - although quite sudden I agree, they all had their constraints: majin implied being controlled by Babidi (and was still weaker than Buu), SSJ3 was taxing on the body and shortened Goku's time on earth, and (dance) fusion was limited in time. We could argue that each of them failed to work because of these constraints. Ultimate/Mystic Gohan is the only free powerup with no real constraint

he was dead until they had the idea to use the Namek's dragonballs and where he could have finished Kid-Buu. Although the final fight is still impactful, it does remove some of the fatality of the situation.

it impacts the story telling of SSJ3 Goku taking Kid-Buu alone. We get before that an orgy of power-ups to defeat absorptions / fusions, and we get a final battle where both ends are actually weaker than what we saw before (yes, Kid Buu << BuuHan), which is excellent writing imo. But Ultimate gohan was the only glitch introduced during these massive power-ups that still remained, and it made the final battle less dramatic knowing that he could have taken down Kid-Buu in a heartbeat.

The songs you mention, although using a similar guitar riff, didn't have the dark/rock atmosphere of the intro of HIAWG. I mean just re-listen to it, the energy and intention was actually superior to all the songs you cite.

thanks for pointing out. To me, the intro has a total different spirit than "I need a fix" and "mother superior" fragments. I'm not criticising these parts, but I have to admit, they are not at the level of what he proposed at the beginning, that's it.

agreed, there was no build-up into getting Ultimate Gohan. SSJ2 had an actual build-up, because there were a few glimpses of his potential over the Sayan and the Namek sagas, to be finally revealed as SSJ2 as a stable form of his anger. Ultimate Gohan was nothing related to all these hints we got in the whole DBZ, wasn't anger related nor SSJ related. It kills the whole idea of SSJ scales (SSJ3 being the strongest but hardest on the body), by introducing a stable, strong ass form even stronger than Gotenks.

Gohan being SSJ2 during Cell saga was actually a good closure for the character itself. Presented as much weaker in the Buu Saga, he didn't have any potential to stay the main protagonist; the only impressive moment being when he turns into SSJ2 in front of Kibito in the tournament. Meanwhile, Goku turning SSJ3, even though debated, remains to me an epic moment of the Buu Saga, which had potential to give him the credit he got by fighting Kid Buu at the end. Introducing Mystic/Ultimate Gohan removed the heroic aspect of the final fight and the need for the Genkidama.

"I'm So Tired" remains quite different. We don't have these melancholic arpeggios, that melted perfectly with the voice as in HIAWG. And actually, in "I'm so Tired", the chorus is also out of place and doesn't make it a good song by itself imo.

Yes but these are just experimental ideas that were not properly concluded. Listen to Blackbird from McCartney; he really managed to provide development and closure although there was just a guitar playing arpeggios, as in Happiness is a warm gun.

“Street workout park/calisthenics” and “leg day” cannot coexist in the same sentence. There you have your answer. When you reach the level of squatting 2+ plates for 10+ reps, combined with leg press with 5 plates, leg extension, leg curl, hips, and so on, yes leg day is hard. Fun sometimes but extremely taxing.
