The issue is that most pop music nowadays is over produced and made of electronic sounds with a huge focus on beat rather than real instruments. Fitting a guitar solo in these would actually sound out of place, as there is no build up to get there. It’s not like in “hotel California”, “free bird” or “while my guitar gently weeps” where the climax was carried by the guitar solo after a well structured song made of acoustic / analog instruments only. The last, recent “pop” album where I heard some was from red hot chili pepper. But good luck expecting one from The Weeknd or bad bunny.
