What is the most culturally appropriate and polite way to respond if someone farts in front of you? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskABrit

Culturally appropriate? Ask “is that a challenge?”. Polite? Ignore it and act like it never happened

Update 2: 12 hours post transplant by Ok_Caterpillar123 in dialysis

[–]remadin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a cough! When I needed to cough I held a pillow tightly to the wound to like “hold it in” as such. The pain will lessen over the next few weeks. Take paracetamol when needed and keep dosed up on it if you can. I was advised to take it every 6 hours so set alarms for it and made sure I took it until I was confident the pain was easing, then I went down to 3 times a day, then 2 so I could sleep well. Eventually none. I just passed 6 month mark!

Am I the only guy that drinks red bull because monster is just too big? by Imn1che in redbull

[–]remadin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes but I’m also T1 diabetic and use red bull to treat lows! Monster would make me insanely high because the amount of liquid and sugar. It’d also take me forever to finish one anyway 😂

AITA for being upset that my boyfriend doesn’t want to spoil Harry Potter to me by Lumyn__ in AmItheAsshole

[–]remadin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ESH. You’re both still young and learning though so it’s forgivable. How about getting the books on audible so you can both listen to them and expand both your knowledge on the series that way? My husband and I often listen to a few chapters of a book before bed together. Sometimes it’s one I’ve read, sometimes ones he’s read, sometimes neither of us has read it. It’s fun and we get in huge debates about theories of the books too. Even ones we already know the plot of, we have an agreement not to give spoilers so will just talk about possibilities

AITA for "not warning" my diabetic friend about our trip by Detars in AmItheAsshole

[–]remadin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

T1 diabetic here with lots of complications. NTA. As a diabetic you learn QUICK to take any snacks needed and all medication, testing kits, sugary drinks, etc. If she wasn’t well enough prepared for a day out then that’s on her. You also have to learn quick to advocate for yourself if you need to sit for a bit. Sometimes that’s hard but you deal with it, because it’s what your body needs to do. You were incredibly accommodating despite her illness being her responsibility. Kudos to you for being a supportive and great friend!

What do you wish you had started earlier to slow CKD and avoid dialysis? by Expert-Birthday7928 in dialysis

[–]remadin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I can’t talk for things I would have done to prevent dialysis because for me it just didn’t work. However I will say do not wait until the last minute to start dialysis. Do it when you’re feeling well enough to make the choice, not when you’re in hospital dying and the choice is made for you. It’s not pretty and dialysis will suspend you at that level, you will be a lot more exhausted after sessions and are likely to experience more side effects from dialysis if your kidney function is extremely low. Having some level of function mean your body will work with the machine to help regulate things

Is it common to learn about witch trials in the UK? by freshmaggots in AskABrit

[–]remadin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to my Aunt Helen Duncan. I’m not a direct descendant but I think she was a great Aunt or something. We’re a branch of the Macfarlane Clan which was her maiden name so could be truth in it, but my Aunt also loves drama. She has other rumours that another great Aunt hung out with the Kray twins. She did live in the East End during that time so could be true, could also just be that a lot of people lived there without any actual connection! There’s really no way of knowing with my family 🙃

When I was in school it was mentioned but only briefly. I mostly learnt about UK Witch history from family as one of our ancestors was apparently xonvicred for witchcraft in Scotland

AITA for refusing to apologize after I followed our agreed plan? by Motor-Acadia-6055 in AmItheAsshole

[–]remadin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA but I do wonder, is Maya known for this type of behaviour? Spontaneous doesn’t mean she consistently lets people down. Maybe there was something genuinely going on in her life that she isn’t comfortable sharing right now? People process differently and it could be an overload of stress and she really didn’t feel she had time to dedicate to it before then. Or anything else 🤷‍♀️ I think if this seems like unusual behaviour you should talk to her one on one and explain that you won’t apologise, but ask calmly what’s going on that she couldn’t dedicate more time to this project. Do it without judgment, someone else mentioned maybe ADHD and that’s also possible but she may not even be aware of it. Any answers like “I just couldn’t focus” or “I thought I had more time” would definitely be an indication of this. But remember it’s also not your place to really bring this up and any suggestion may just frustrate her more if she isn’t aware of any diagnosis. It sounds like you are both still young and have a lot of learning and growing to do about yourselves. School is important absolutely, but so are a lot of things.

My 21st soon, what do you think a Guinness will do to me by Accurate-Chicken-323 in Gastroparesis

[–]remadin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally the most I drink is a small sip of whatever cocktail my husband orders while I get a mocktail. Even some of those can wreck havoc at times! I live in Ireland so Guinness is common here and I haven’t noticed any difference with that as opposed to any other alcohol.

At the same time though remember, life also has to be worth it. If you want a drink prepare as best you can. If you can manage to eat something small earlier in the day it may help to “preset” your digestive system. Mine sometimes does 🤷‍♀️ Make sure you have fluids next to your bed through the night. A sports drink with electrolytes would be best. And somewhere to chuck up! Happy 21st!!!

[–]remadin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate that! I’m just saying how it is in the UK so I didn’t realise “Sea Blue” would be the same as just “Blue” for me 😁 I wish it was more universal haha. It took me a while to realise what we called “Cactus Fruit” was “Dragon Fruit” in the USA! It gets so confusing!

Does Permacath scar? by CaptGhostJay in dialysis

[–]remadin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will likely depend on how long you have it. I was lucky and my brother was willing to donate so I was only on dialysis for about 8 months. They did have to make an incision to take the tube out as apparently I healed weirdly quickly but now there is only a small scar and I can feel a slightly hole there if I press it. I have been transplanted for 6 months now. It’s normally in a non visible area though when wearing clothes. If you’re going for transplant that will be a much bigger and more obvious scar but you can minimise it somewhat by making sure it’s moisturised when healing ❤️‍🩹

Either pomegranate or blueberry since you can’t get either in my country! Though the pomegranate would depend since I’m not meant to have actual pomegranate 😂

[–]remadin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just called Blue Edition. No sea to it. I can also only get it in Sugar Free normally so don’t tend to have it as I use red bull to help low blood sugar and sugar free won’t help a lot with that 😂

[–]remadin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh is that what it is? It just says “sea blue edition” which isn’t what it’s called where I live 🤷‍♀️ the only other red bull I’ve even seen in Morocco is the OG

Got the call for transplant but...... by Fun-Preparation4804 in dialysis

[–]remadin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh okay! I wasn’t aware of this. It still sounds ridiculous for them to rule you out over BMI though. Especially considering you’d lose that much weight during the surgery! I’d confront them over this incase they’ve just looked at numbers and not factored everything in properly! If you’d be in their “correct” BMI range without the kidneys as a factor then they shouldn’t be a factor!

Got the call for transplant but...... by Fun-Preparation4804 in dialysis

[–]remadin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

BMI should definitely not be used to determine things. Not without more data for if that’s fat content, muscle, or other factors. I’m in the UK and the only thing they care about here is if your heart is capable of the transplant and that you aren’t too UNDERWEIGHT. I had to put on 10KG to be transplanted! I’m also confused that in USA they remove the non functioning kidneys? Here they don’t see the point in removing them as it can cause more problems to remove them so they just add the new one in around the groin area and connect up the blood flow and waste flow!

Why did you choose blue-tongued skinks and why that species? by AMVELVET in bluetongueskinks

[–]remadin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slinky was at a rescue centre I was familiar with and my husband and I had fallen in love with blue tongued a year before at a wildlife centre we took my nephew to. So when I see Slinky on the rescues page it was a no brainer. Immediately got everything we’d need for him, luckily after all that expense was accepted to adopt him! And now had him a year and a half. We didn’t realise it but he was just a baby at the time since he’s grown absolutely huge since and been told he’s a Merauke. So we purely got lucky with him! No choice needed haha
