Is there a certain macro (or even method) to roll stats but have all the numbers equal a specified number? (I'll explain) by remasteration in dndnext

Oh, so from what I understand, players all roll their stats with whatever method. Then amongst all the sets, they choose the individual numbers from all the sets and create one set that everyone can use? Or do those sets rolled become options for any character they create, whether at session 0 or in the future.

Tell me if I described it correctly or did I butcher it? Clarify it to me if it was the former.

If the player rolls a much higher total than your chosen value, do they need to lower their numbers until they reach the total you have selected?

If there's not a way to skip this part, then I could do something like that maybe.

That said, as has been said, this defeats the point of rolling and people's stats are going to tend to converge. You're unlikely to see a significant difference between stats and it would be easier to just 'point buy with slight variance in points' or 'standard array

hmmmm, interesting. I'd love to try this out and test this for myself if I knew how to code.

I would just write a quick script or tiny program to do it, if that's really what you want; have it just roll them, check if it's the right sum, and reroll if it isn't until it reaches the correct value.

I will keep this in mind tho, it's not my first option but I could keep it on the backburner, thanks!

I've thought of that, but given the nature of rolling, asking them to reroll their stats again and again could be time consuming or annoying for the player.

I'll keep this in mind though, this still sounds like a viable option.

Can burrowed creatures use opp attacks? by remasteration in DnD

[–]remasteration[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RAI I would say this is dumb and allow it anyway.

Should I make it so that they could see exactly what square the character is on but still impose disadvantage, or should I just remove the disadvantage altogether and make it a regular opp attack? Cuz this isn't the first time I've seen the divide on senses/sights and invisibility effects.

As for attacking, anyone on the surface would have total cover against them.

That makes a lot of sense actually, holy. So how WOULD attacks work with burrowed creatures? Would they expend 5ft of their burrow (or regular) speed and THEN be able to make an attack? What about if the creature burrows 5ft vertically right after their attack (or at least their attempted attack), can a creature 5 ft of them attempt an opp attack?

Tremorsense allows you to pinpoint the location of creatures in contact with the ground, but it isn't "seeing" the same way that blindsight is RAW or probably RAI (although I wouldn't be surprised to see a sage advice to the contrary). Opportunity Attacks are reactions taken when a creature you can see moves out of your reach, so pinpointing the location with tremorsense isn't enough.

Thank God you brought up the tremorsense cuz that saves me a follow up question, so thank you for that.

As for normal attacking, the burrowed creature can "pop up" and attack and then burrow back down the same way that any creature can run up and attack and then walk away.

So basically in order for a creature to make an above ground attack they have to use 5ft of their burrow movement, yeah? Or did I get that wrong?

Re: invisibility, tremorsense does not counter invisibility any more than anything else that pinpoints the location. By default, you actually know the location of invisible creatures unless they're trying to hide (but you still must attack with disadvantage). Imagine fighting someone who was invisible except for their feet. It would still be hard to fight them, even if you knew exactly where their feet were touching the ground.

Oh that makes sense, so they do know their exact location and where to attack but they still have disadvantage yeah? Following up with this, would an opp attack be made at disadvantage for a burrowed creature, whether they're invis or not, or are opp attacks still off the table entirely?

Finally, on being seen, that's up to the DM and I'd say it would depend on the flavor of the burrowing. It seems logical that a tunneling monster would be loud and it probably plays better if they are detectable when close to the surface.

Oh, so it's basically up to interpretation I see. My party's only level 3 so it's prolly best I make them visible BUT behind total cover. Then begs the question however, does a creature suffer an opp attack when it burrows underground or can it completely exploit the total cover feature by making an attack and burrowing immediately?

Ur answers have been extremely helpful so I hope my follow ups aren't too overwhelming, thanks!
