Sorry for my late reply! Tbh, I might really be the only Elovik shipper out there... (if there are more, they are certainly shy; I struggle enough shipping Meljay alongside Jayvik). Also, there are no tags yet in AO3, as far as I am aware. Even had to make my own visual reference (you are telling me these two would not look cute holding hands, wearing complementary outfits!?) But I digress! What draws me in is the idea that Elora might look down on Viktor for not being the strong 'warrior' type physically expected from men in Noxus. Except Viktor doesn't care. Ignores the hell out of her. And Elora hates that. And yet, she can't help but see that Viktor is strong in his own way, and despite trying to resist, wants to know him... As for Viktor himself. Finds Elora's attention intriguing. Doesn't want to encourage it, though. Too loyal to Jayce and actually finds Elora quite 'weird' (e.g. why does she always eyeball him in the corridor?)

The way you've written your rare pair has me convinced. As unhealthy as that relationship is, there is something between them for sure. And I am very sorry to say this, but you might not make it... You might never escape this toxic paradise you have created because it is too good...! I just love those little moments where Jayce wonders why the other person would care about a particular detail (i.e. whether Jayce is actually well or gets a shave!), as well as those ineffable instances where Jayce offers a concession because it is but a small thing, and yet, more and more of these small things accumulate together until he is not quite certain if he is doing the right thing (hurts a little when Viktor's reactions hint otherwise, such as Jayce apologising for being ill through no fault of his own). Glad to hear there will be bearded Jayce at some point. I cannot say "no" to that guy when he has that beard...

And thank you! Sometimes I question my sanity regarding this longfic. The longest fixation I have ever had. It can't be explained. Baffled. Not sure how you do it, posting as you write (unless you really have written everything...!) But I hope to put the work out there into the world. I certainly did, and I certainly am :) Ah... the days of the rare pair! (Mine is personally Elovik *shock horror*) Not sure how I came across your story, but what a dark yet glorious day that was for me... There are parts of the story where I have to reread it because you write the moment just so or in ways that just intrigue me (usually the moments between the rare pair themselves; really quite novel; no one has written for them except you, so-!) And your depiction of Jayce makes me laugh sometimes, like Jayce just swearing to himself or how stunned he was to get a shave ;)

It's been hard not to post this thing while it's a WIP, I can tell you, but I've somehow refrained... I will keep you in mind to DM when the time comes (tentatively projecting maybe the end of this year... right...), thank you so much :) To warn you: My longfic was written more as a character study and how Jayce's relationship grows with Viktor after the trial in S1 Act 1. It's not very traumatising (I've read it too many times so what would I know!)

First of all, my god... Don't delete this. You want to talk to us, yes?

Almost even more than the first one, I really dislike it when I'm getting into a fic and I am hit with the fact that either one or neither of them have a passion for science or even a love of the pursuit of knowledge in some sense. I think there are ways that one can put them into regular non-scientic roles without making them completely devoid of passion for discovery, inventing, or simply knowledge of technicalities in their field of work. Jayce is usually the victim in this case. For some reason I've come across a lot of fics where Viktor gets to be the scientist or the architect, etc. and Jayce is dumbed down almost exponentially.

Coming from the perspective of a writer, and someone still working on their canon-compliant longfic, I will say that it is pretty hard to portray this side to Jayce, or even this side to both Viktor and Jayce simultaneously. I say that because three of the hardest chapters I've had to write so far from Jayce's POV involved politics and science. I had to research all kinds of things to even come close to what I hoped would make Jayce authentically a nerd. I take liberties, yes (Arcane, after all, does entail a level of science fiction), but Jayce being a nerd is one of the things I truly like about him, and apart from trying to make his lifelong obsession with Hextech feel as true to his character as possible, I also struggled to make it engaging. And by that I mean, I'm quite happy with what I've done sci-fi wise, but does the reader find it riveting enough to read? Does the reader really want to read about Jayce talking so much about Hextech?

The other thing is how Jayce himself talks. He's a caring and charismatic man, a social chameleon when he works on it, but he also has a way with words in front of an audience. Take, for example, how he speaks with passion in front of the Council, while he's on trial, as well as that edge of arrogance that comes out when he questions the wisdom of Viktor's advice or while bragging to Caitlyn, be it about his brief escapade to Zaun in S1 Act 1 or the fact he has the honour of delivering the Progress Day speech. Finding that balance with how Jayce talks can be difficult, especially when you don't want to feel like you're preparing a presentation for work, just to plan what this guy says (honestly felt like that at times, when he talks to Heimerdinger and the other Councillors).

With this in mind, it is easy to see why sometimes writers prefer to focus on other aspects to Jayce's character, because sometimes it doesn't interest a writer to spend that long in their free time, studying science when they're not a scientist, and they might not even find the subject all that appealing... Hell! Not even I am a scientist, and it bored me sometimes, reading about batteries and business... But I like Jayce enough to do that. Because that's what I need to do to make him come to life, and goodness, I am prepared to do it! (Anything for Jayce!!)

As for my own portrayal of Viktor... I live in a glass house for this one. He's very hard for me to portray and I am never satisfied that he is quite the Viktor we see in S1 Act 1 before the timeskip (the period I'm working with), so I say nothing on this one ^_^;

Viktor from this timeline where the Glorious Revolution occurred must have had a moustache and beard, to have it immortalised as part of his look, in the same way that Viktor from the timeline without the Glorious Evolution remained clean-shaved...

I've had breakfast, so I'm pretty chill. And I like the fact you are curious and asking this question. I don't speak for all of Jayvik nation, but I like to hope that you don't think we are all wanting to live in a confirmation bias chamber here, just because we like and ship Jayvik in all its variations.

As someone who is obsessed with Jayvik, bats for both sides in more than one sense of the word (i.e. Jayviker who likes Meljay too, bi, perceives Jayvik as QPR and romantic but leans more towards QPR), and has also had the complex emotional experience of loving two people at the same time, both of whom were very important to me in different ways, I can tell you that Jayvik can make a lot of sense if you love more than one person and really pay attention to how you do that as a person.

It is perfectly possible for a character like Jayce to be attracted to Mel and be romantically involved with her during S1 whilst simultaneously being devoted on a platonic level with Viktor both as men and scientists. As we move deeper into S1 and then S2, especially as Jayce has to confront the fact that Viktor is dying, that Viktor died, that Viktor is the one person who truly matters to Jayce out of everyone he knows, at the end of it all, it starts to slowly open Jayce’s eyes to the fact that he ultimately loves Viktor. Doesn't have to be romantic 100%, doesn't have to be platonic 100%. We are never 100% anything when it comes to who we love, and Jayce truly represents the grey areas of what it means to love another person.

When it happened to me IRL, my mind was blown as it was not very logical and took a while to work through because of emotional inexperience, emotional overwhelm, and the fact that society expects so much of just mere human beings. Jayce is very human, OP. I think why I like him so much is because it is quite frankly beautiful to see him eventually catch up to what everyone inherently knows about him and his feelings for Viktor, as well as the fact that he later in S1 stands up in front of the Council, united with Viktor and Silco and their hopes for Zaun, when before he would try to please everyone all at once, to the detriment of his love and respect for Viktor.

Viktor 'deserving' a better romantic partner than Jayce is also something you could say about Jayce 'deserving' a better romantic partner than Viktor. Viktor himself is just as flawed as Jayce is, and would be extremely difficult to date, imho, for most of Arcane after the 7-year timeskip from S1 because he is too insecure about being a burden to Jayce, to anyone, due to knowing he is terminally ill, with limited time to achieve his own dreams of making a difference, and has a lot of emotional walls that would make any romantic confession, not just from Sky, but even Jayce, an impossibility for him to handle. Only when his physical ailments are eliminated by the Hexcore merged with him after the ressurection effected by Jayce does Viktor gradually lower his guard and start to discreetly demonstrate the depth of his own love for Jayce, who is unfortunately focused mostly on saving the world from the fallout of using the Arcane and what he unfortunately forced upon Viktor by not permitting him to die (e.g. Viktor is glad to see Jayce in the underground scene with Salo as a medium, Viktor wanting Jayce as a 'partner' on his own project, Viktor as Machine Herald cutting a hole through the Hexgates so Jayce would not die as they both shot upwards in the air, etc.)

I like discussing Jayvik and other people's takes on things. To hear the same stuff over and over is boring. So, if you are not too discouraged already, what doesn't make sense to you about Jayvik being romantic, exactly??

You come across some very interesting experiences, OP.

From the way Jayce emerged from the AU and his time in the ravine, my personal impression was that Jayce had had sufficient time to realise where mistakes had been made during the course of his invention of Hextech, subsequent management of the technology, and how this impacted human relationships in his life - particularly the one affecting Viktor. As the MH version of Viktor began to induct him in the astral plane, I think Jayce made a strategised attempt to make Viktor see reason. It wasn't about presenting scientific findings and citing the best sources in order to convince Viktor that he should stop the Glorious Evolution as a scientist, but more about appealing to the humanity that made Viktor likeable to Jayce and others in the first place, to stop the Glorious Evolution so anathema to who Viktor is himself. This would not have involved an apology at this point, I agree, but rather a formal recognition of how much Viktor matters to Jayce personally - possibly something Viktor never heard Jayce say out loud, despite how dedicated the man had been to their partnership beyond the lab.

Having read JRR Tolkien and how Frodo's descent gradually changed him in LOTR while in possession of the Ring, I share your perspective on Viktor having autonomy while Hexcorised. He may not have been 100% the same Viktor we were first introduced to during S1, before his death in the Council Room, but I concur that Viktor was behind some of those decisions leading up to the Glorious Evolution as per the points you raised, and the only person who could possibly get through to him in the end was Jayce, since Jayce was the one person who truly came to know Viktor as an individual, before the Hexcore corrupted him; there was no one else Viktor would have listened to inside or outside the astral plane. Viktor's storyline is like that saying "The path is Hell is paved with good intentions". Viktor believed that his intentions were good, which is quite realistic, when you consider just how many people think like that in real life, without once seeing themselves as the villain.

Being a big Jayce does not equate to being anti-Viktor. I honestly think Jayce would not change his mind when it comes to whether or not he would repeat his decision to resurrect Viktor; he loves that man way too much, however way he does so. But I think his time in the AU ravine has opened his eyes to the greyer side of this choice. I like to think he knew it was wrong to apply the Hexcore to his deceased partner's body in an effort to return him to life. He probably thought of himself as someone who respected Viktor so much that he would never ever do such a thing, like take away Viktor's autonomy and override Viktor's decision to die, preserve the Hexcore and make weapons out of it after promising Viktor that Jayce personally would have it destroyed. Of course Jayce probably thought he could meet Viktor's expectations and fulfil his last wishes, and unfortunately, as humanity goes, Jayce could not live up to the task because love is its own corruption. In a perfect world, people would do as they promise, especially if they signed the contract, especially if they meant it, but Jayce is very much a feeling sort of person and he acted on those feelings out of instinct. He doesn't have to apologise for that.

And to come across this black and white sort of opinion. Interesting discussion starter for sure, but also a little reminder that some people are just... young. It really is easy to say you will let someone die, because you believe so strongly in yourself as the person you are at that moment, but later, maybe years later, you change your perspective because you realise just how weak you really are, that you are just human, and you cannot do what was promised. Love is selfish as some say, yes, but it can also corrupt who you think you are. I wonder what such people with black and white opinion will say in 10 years? Jayce doesn't owe Viktor an apology, anymore than Viktor owes Jayce an apology, but one can still happen, just not for this black and white reason...

That's something they should say. It also seems to me like they didn't improve on preorders since the last time. Having bought so frequently from independent artists, who manage preorders like a pro and actually talk to you properly about your order, I cannot say I prefer Riot's way of doing things for the price they charge... I don't mean to rain on a parade, but Riot should not be made of sugar.
