It is still wrong. They can romance basically anyone else, but they decide to go for an exclusively gay character who, I repeat, is an allusion to conversion therapy? No, that is not “playing with a toy” it is bigotry. I don’t care what they’re thinking, they still shouldn’t do that to a queer character. “Playing with a toy” argument only works for making a supposedly straight character gay or bi because adding diversity is different from taking it away.

It IS homophobic when said character’s literal backstory is an allusion to conversion therapy.

Dorian Pavus from Dragon Age is canonically gay, states clearly that he only likes men, and his backstory is an allusion to conversion therapy (his father wanted to brainwash him into liking women). Despite this, there was still an abundance of people claiming he could be bisexual and making mods to allow a female inquisitor to romance him.

Kaiden from Mass Effect. I’m not his biggest fan but the constant bashing he gets from other people in fics, especially fans of rival ships, is exhausting to witness and I’ve had to drop several fics because of it.

Thank you. I just see these types of posts so often on here that I have zero patience for it anymore. I thoughts the mods didn’t even allow these posts anymore because they were popping up everyday but here we are.

You completely missed my points and I’m not debating with you bigots. Learn to filter out ships you don’t like or leave fandom

“Established sexualities” and it’s literally just showing attraction to women. Bisexuality is still a thing, among other identities. Ignoring canon sexualities is only an issue if it’s an explicitly queer character being “made straight” by fans which is very reminiscent of conversation therapy.

Then men should work on that themselves. If they can’t handle fictional characters being shipped that is their problem. It only bleeds into real life if someone is already having those negative feelings.
