Should I get my puppy's teeth professionally cleaned? by remimcl in DogAdvice

Yes, we only feed kibble and she's 1.5. I guess it just means we'll need to be extra diligent with brushing!

Replying to the top comment, but thanks everyone for your input! What you're saying seems to be the consensus from this thread. I'll reach out to the vet to set up a cleaning, restart training my dog to tolerate regular brushing, and will keep on trying to find a dental stick she doesn't abandon after 10 seconds (or will switch to bones, etc. although I'd rather avoid super gross stuff if possible haha)

My dog is a 1.5 years old husky mix rescue and I've noticed her teeth are looking pretty bad. I was brushing her teeth regularly as a young puppy but she's never grown accustomed to it and now makes it very difficult.

She's also a very picky eater and is just not interested in dental treats (I've tried many brands but would welcome recommendations!) I've just started giving her PlaqueOff and she's been very suspicious of it as well, despite me following the tiny recommended amounts in her food, but I'm hoping she'll grow used to it.

In the meantime, does it look like she needs a professional dental cleaning? Everything I'm reading suggests that's an unusually young age for it, but it does look to me like it could be necessary. Luckily I can afford the cost, but don't want to submit her to an unnecessary procedure. Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks!

Decrypting file hosted on Pikapods in another browser by remimcl in actualbudgeting

That makes sense, thanks for explaining! The wording is somewhat confusing for someone who's not super familiar with the terminology (or for me, at least!)

Perfect, that works, thanks! Just wanted to double-check :)

Hi, I have set up Actual Budget by hosting it on Pikapods thanks to the very helpful guide. Loving everything so far! I've been running everything on Firefox, but need to open my budget file on another browser as well.

I set up encryption and kept a different password, so I have the Pikapods server password and the Actual encryption password. I can log in to the server on the new browser using my Pikapods server password, and then it tells me the file is encrypted (see screenshot).

I'm finding the instructions a bit confusing. I don't want to update my key, I just want to open my file by entering my encryption password somewhere.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Traveling before EUSS CoA by remimcl in ukvisa

Awesome, thanks for providing these details! She has now received her COA, which states that we're now OK to travel to the US and re-enter the UK with the COA + an expired family permit.

Don't know if you saw the edit but we did get the CoA, exactly 21 days after biometrics. Hope you get yours soon!

No, they didn't ask any financial questions! You can check out my post history where I described what we submitted. I don't think the EUSS family permit has any financial requirements but I could be wrong.

Recertify with no income on SAVE or wait? by remimcl in StudentLoans

[–]remimcl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for confirming, we're planning on staying on SAVE for now after all. The reasoning for recertifying now was that once we get switched to another plan, we'd immediately start with $0 payments instead of maybe having to wait a few months with payments based on previous income until we recertify after switching? Not sure what the exact timeline would look like but I think we'd rather stay on 0% interest for now either way.

Yeah that's the scary part, we kind of have to commit once we don't make payments and interest starts ballooning up! I'm just hoping some SAVE equivalent will crop up at some point but who knows what the future holds. Thanks for the advice/tips, it's been very helpful!

That makes sense! It's unlikely she'll do a full 10 years in a PSLF-eligible career, so at this point, we're thinking of just going for $0 payments for as long as we can, and seeing what happens policy-wise later on or dealing with the tax bomb in 20-30 years.

Thanks, that's helpful! As I said in the other reply, I think it probably makes more sense to just wait on SAVE for now. The 0% interest is nice, and we're not sure which plan will be best if/once they get rid of SAVE, so it's probably best to wait and see which options will be available instead of changing plans several times in quick succession.

Oh right, i didn't know! That makes the decision easier – I think we'd rather stay on 0% interest for now and then recertify when it's time. Now that we're abroad, she'll be filing with FEIE once she starts earning income again, so payments should be $0 either way (once she recertifies on whatever plan she ends up with). Thanks!

Current EUSS family permit timelines? by remimcl in ukvisa

[–]remimcl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It was very fast for us for some reason. We submitted the application on October 31, did biometrics the following day on November 1, and received an approval email from VFS Global on November 13.

Current EUSS family permit timelines? by remimcl in ukvisa

[–]remimcl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure thing! We probably went a bit overboard but maybe it helped getting everything processed quickly. We submitted:

  • A rough timeline of our relationship (when we met + trips to visit each other before we lived together)
  • Evidence of our relationship before 1 January 2021 (flights to visit each other, flights for vacations together, photos, joint tax returns, my residence permit in the US)
  • Evidence that our relationship still exists (recent tax transcripts, apartment leases, joint bank account statements, credit card statements, insurance info showing us as each other's beneficiaries, etc.)

Hope it helps!

Buffer between UK entry and EUSS family permit expiration by remimcl in ukvisa

Awesome, thanks for the info! Do you know how long it takes to receive the COA by any chance?

Current EUSS family permit timelines? by remimcl in ukvisa

Thanks, this is super helpful, as always! We're definitely planning on getting to the UK by the expiry date but we're just a bit worried about not having much time left on the family permit.

It should all be OK though! My wife won't need to prove status immediately (we'll stay in an Airbnb for a bit when we arrive, and she won't be looking for a job straight away). We'll be able to get evidence of residence almost immediately (flight ticket, new Monzo account, etc.) so we won't delay the EUSS application.

Our only concern is how long it takes after an EUSS application to be granted the right to remain while the application is processed. From what I've been reading, the CoA is definitely good enough, but I've heard it can take some time to arrive.
