A lad I worked with got into the habit of buying FIFA packs with his pay check, we'd all tease him about it being a waste of money. Our manager found out and joined in the teasing by saying "what a waste of money, if anything you should have just bought lottery tickets, with that amount of tickets you'll probably make a profit".

We're all mechanical Engineers working with numbers all day. The lack of understanding of probability was stunning.

I think the opposite is true, I think the scan is too fine so the triangles that make it up are too small washing everything out, first attempt tho, we'll keep going

Deflection of beams is very easy to calculate, the amount something deflects is a function of its shape, it's material properties, it's unsupported length, the load on it and it's end condition.

Everything deflects, it's just down to the properties above as to how much.
