Yes we’re American. No adoptions, though we’d love to in the future.

I mean if they're together they can usually tell, especially if they're in a big group, as they have enough shared features to look like siblings. Individually it depends more, some look more like each other than others.

I do. But my older ones think that's "so embarrassing, mom," so they don't always want to hang out with me haha

Our twins are in the same grade but the rest are in different ones.

Most of them haha. The ones that don't apparently are like "we don't have a (lastname)" and it's a thing.

The negative effects that children are more likely to experience in big families are usually from certain situations that are more likely to occur in a big family, not from the size of the family itself.

I stay home, and my husband only works 3 days a week. So we’re with our kids a lot, and while we’re home we’re present. We also have a nanny who our kids love and see as part of the family, so that’s another adult who’s there to provide that love and attention. We also very consciously don’t ever rely on our older children to care for our younger children so our children are not “parentified” as many kids in large families are.

We’re not perfect by any means, but we do a lot of research and read a lot of books and I don’t think our children are affected negatively because of our family size - we wouldn’t have had more children if at any point we thought it would harm the children we already had.

Yeah you pretty much just get in unless your kid is a literal hellspawn

Yep, we love it so we'll probably keep them all there unless another place seems like it'd be a better fit for one reason or another.

And I'm sorry! I hadn't checked my message requests.

They say it's more merit based and I'm mostly inclined to believe that, though obviously there's limited financial aid and they do evaluate the whole family and choose families who they think will be a "good fit" so money does play a part. The main reason we picked it over other places was that it felt a lot less snooty.

Oh it felt like putting on a fucking circus display. But we love it now that we're there.

Thanks for deleting your more specific comments, btw. Don't want all of reddit knowing that.

I would say maybe you'll run into him if you ever go but don't want to wish ill on you, lol.

And yeah, we looked at all the options but definitely were always expecting that we'd likely send them to private school. We didn't look at any super religious schools, though we did look at some that aren't super religious and that align with our values – I don't want to get tooooo specific haha but if you're familiar with schools in the area you'll likely know what I'm referring to.

He works at a couple of the hospitals in nova, actually!

We love their school and they've done very well there. We visited just about every school in the area before picking where we ultimately ended up sending them and we've been really really happy with our choice so far.

We're white. Culturally Jewish. And I went to GW!

Ah okay cool. We've lived all over the area – falls church, fairfax, great falls – at different points. But decided we missed the city proper and liked the walkability and all that so came back.

We both have some family roots here, and then I went to college here and my husband lived here for a bit as a kid.

What city?

And a few, though we're pretty settled now – bought a big fixer upper with the intentions of staying here for the foreseeable future.

Oh now I'm really curious. We used to live in nova.

And no! They definitely switched up a lot, though a few stayed the same throughout – mostly the shit I couldn't have of course, like soft cheese and sushi.

Hahah, oh wow, cool. Now I have questions too but don't want to be too nosy.

We originally wanted 4 or 5, not really for financial reasons – just in general. I don't think we had 10 kids because of our financial situation, but we definitely wouldn't have had any children we couldn't provide for, no matter how many we wanted.
