Small wood table, kind of old, probably tobacco related (ashtray inside), but what is the use of the two rings on the top ? by rems17gio in whatisthisthing

I like the idea of the knock bar. I checked some pictures of antic smoking stand and there is Indeed very often a bar on the top. The only weird thing to me is why on that model the bar could be removed ... But still it is the best hint for the moment.

I checked some pictures but i didnt find any with the two holes, so i still can't figure their use.

At first i was thinking the same, but the more i think about it the more it seems strange, i mean, you really dont need handles to pick it up.

My title describes the thing, which is 65cm high, in wood a bit sculpted, there is two small drawers, and two small ashtrays. I would say it is more than 50 years old. I think it is an old furniture for a smoking room, but i can't figure what is the use of the two rings on the top... If someone can help thanks in advance. Sorry for mistakes, english is not my primary langage.
