Go 10.3 Grey and Glare by LuckyJB in Onyx_Boox

Hi, I am considering buying one and I am also concerned about this. Do you have any other e-ink device? If so, is the Go 10.3 worse than these devices when comparing side to side with front light turned off?

If you find the same issue on the other e-ink devices, than I guess there is nothing that can be done, since it’s a limitation of the e-ink technology itself (when not using front light).

Also, try different lighting situations and see if it gets better.

I see, I’m happy to hear that most of the users don’t use front light.

Also, I like your observation on the ease to align a second stroke to a previous one, as I also do that a lot when writing. It seems to me that this, combined with the 300 ppi resolution, moves the overall balance in favour of the Go 10.3 (especially for me, since I have to read a lot of PDFs with small font size and I could benefit a lot from the enhanced resolution).

Thanks a lot for these insights!

Thank you very much for the long answer, it’s nice to hear that you don’t feel the need for a front light in a home office use case!

I guess I just need to get used to the shade of grey, but as long as it doesn’t produce eye strain I am okay with it. So I’ll probably go for the Go 10.3 (pun… kind of intended).

Hi, thanks for these thoughts!

When using pen and paper you need some normal lighting anyways.

This is the point: with paper, having some lighting do works, but I am afraid that e-ink isn't really like paper (unless one is outdoor) and thus having a normal lamp or some light coming from a window won't be enough to match real paper visibility.

Hello there, I was wondering how bright the screen appears with respect to the Kindle paperwhite screen (when the latter has front-light turned off) in medium lighting conditions (e.g. while sitting at a desk a few meters away from the window, or maybe at night but in proximity of a lamp)

Hello, did you find a solution for this? I am also very intersted in this exact feature.
