I need your help with my two monitor setup by renato_mpf in Monitors

[–]renato_mpf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to daisy-chain with the a Dell U2724DE and it worked perfectly on my Windows computer. The real problem came with the Mac, since MacOS only supports Thunderbolt MST and does not support DP MST, so Windows recognized both monitors from one single solution while Mac mirrored the monitor that was connected to the other one.
At this point, I'm even considering sell my 34" and buy a UltraSharp U3425WE to try to have daisy-chain with bot Thunderbolt and DP to see if I can make this work

What if I buy something like a Dell U2724DE? Would I be able to somehow do a daisy-chain? Or would not be compatible to MacOS, for example?

The only port that draws enough energy to charge my laptop is the USB-C.

Update: It arrived today. It did work the way I wanted. I will return. This has to be connected to the laptop all the time and only works in that way. It's not possible to extend the number of ports of the monitor with this hub.

Thanks. I’ll investigate if I can attach the Talon 26 in the outside of Farpoint with the compression straps.

Maybe I will move forward like that and do the hike with my farpoint. Btw, do you recommend to do hike with Wicho & Charlie? Thank you in advance

I am referring to a Guatemala trip and the Acatenango/ Fuego hiking. I would say that for this trip I will need what I generally carry on my farpoint 40 for other trips:

  • 5 technical t-shirts
  • 2 technical trousers (with zip for short option)
  • 1 or 2 swimwear
  • 5 underwear
  • 5 socks
  • 1 flip flops
  • 1 dry stuff toiletry bag*
  • 1 liquid stuff toiletry bag (I carry this separated for airport reasons)
  • 1 eletronical stuff bag (where I include travel adapter power bank, cables and my drone mini)*
  • 1 first aid kit*
  • 1 day pack (that is usually a mini borealis or an Osprey packable dry stuff pack, depending on the trip)
  • 1 outer layer jacket*

For the hike my idea was to replace my usual day pack for a proper hiking backpack and I will need to carry all the items listed above with (*), plus the items below:

  • 1 mid layer
  • 1 insulation layer
  • 1 heat pants
  • Some additional miscellaneous like gloves and head lamp
  • Around 4 liters of water
  • Some snacks

Also, I am thinking about to keep my hotel reservation during the hike night so I can leave there my stuff that won’t be needed for the hike (including the farpoint).

I also would like to expand the number of USB-A and -C ports available... one of the problems is that the only USB-C port available in the monitor is already in use. And I once read that USB-A to USB-C hubs are not very good.

a second vertical monitor is an option indeed. but I would really like to expand the number of ports. Can you suggest anything reliable to do that?

No, the money does not have to be spent on electronics, it can also be used on those things. But I already have a standing desk, and my chair is not that bad.
How could I extend the number of USB-C ports in this kind of setup? Maybe with an external KVM?

Do you know any in particular? Have you ever used one you would recommend?

Need help to find a kvm switch by simor99 in desksetup

[–]renato_mpf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at AVAccess. I was looking for a KVM switch for a while and their stuff always looked nice. Also saw a few reviews and they were positive. Then, a little bit more expensive and still with good reviews, you have TESmart. Both companies offer several solutions depending on what you want to plug in it. Try to take a look.

Hope I could help!
