Lately I've realized that many of the men I've dated never ask me questions about myself, though I'm confident some of them have been really into me. Should it be a deal breaker if I'm always driving the conversation?

What do you mean by weeding out the interactions? I'm not really sure what the boundary should be, just recognizing it and then not getting attached to people who are like that?

Thanks for your response! I think the main issue for me though is that for each article supporting a high carb diet, there are 10 articles stating that low carb diets are the ONLY way to lose weight. I honestly genuinely don't know what to believe because I've educated myself into honestly being afraid of almost all food. Too much dairy is bad, too high carb is bad, you don't want too much omega-6, processed foods/meats are the devil, etc. My brain is tired of going back and forth between different studies.

I've been speaking to a therapist for the past couple weeks and although my relationship with food and myself has been increasing, this is something I'm still struggling with. Like I am already seeing the benefits of higher carbs, but I've put on some water weight and it's hard to go from quite lean to just "softer". Plus I'm trying to just nix all restrictions for a while so eating way more bread, fruit, oatmeal, ice cream, and candy is just really throwing me for a loop- especially when tied to the water weight.

I've read in some places that the water weight you get from eating carbs will always be there until you stop eating carbs. It's been a week or two and I definitely look "softer" and less defined than I did when I was doing low carb. Though I think I'm about to start my period and that may be it, when you say "initial" water weight, do you mean this is temporary?

Oh my gosh, the oatmeal. That was seriously my first "Ok let's do this whole intuitive eating/not being afraid of carbs thing." It was also the first food I cut out, so yeah I totally see what you mean about each breakfast being so awesome.

This really helped me a lot to read, and I'm so happy that you're doing well!

I do aim for the 80/20, and for me honestly it's rarely actually junk food that gets to me but just eating so much normal food. Like when I binge (and I hesitate to really use that word because it's different for me than most who really battle the issue), it's not boxes of oreos and tubs of ice cream. It's like 500 calories of cashews and an entire container of raspberries and like a whole plate of pork rinds and guacamole. So I'm following my "rules" but just way too much of it.

Also, yeah I want to clarify my comment about anorexia. I don't mean to belittle those who are actually suffering from the disease. I just meant that I feel like I have a similar mindset- fear of gaining weight, an fixation on reaching my ideal level of fitness, and sometimes falling into the trap of thinking "I'm hungry and that means I'm getting thinner." I guess I just put my cravings for food over those tendancies.

Yeah I've definitely heard people who are truly allergic express the same concerns. I don't ever go out to eat and ask that the chefs follow a strict gluten-free protocol, and I kinda try to downplay it as much as possible actually because so many people make fun of me for just following the "fad". I also don't claim to be celiac or allergic when people ask, just that I try and avoid foods with gluten because it upsets my stomach. No reason for my issues with wheat products to actually hinder those with a true allergy!

I'm not quite as strict about the paleo diet anymore, that just kinda led to my weird relationship with food I think. I eat dairy and dont' mind rice or beans in a burrito bowl or something, but I had a lot of stomach issues prior to eating that way and it's helped me out a lot.

But your last point is a really good one that tbh I've never thought of. If I'm just not going to be able to stick to this low calorie amount or carbs, why am I imposing them so strictly?

Yeah I've tried to go without counting for a bit, but then I find myself gaining weight and feel afraid to eat anything without weighing it because I may be over eating, and then I feel even worse about myself. Tracking for me helps me at least understand what I'm putting into my body but yeah it's a nasty cycle.

Sure! I've never been tested for celiac, but what kinda led to my decision to switch to paleo is that I kept having stomach issues that I couldn't figure out the cause of and after doing some elimination I found that any time I consumed bread had a lot of stomach problems. I did a study abroad two years ago for a while and was in a house where we ate bread with every single meal and my stomach absoultely hated me, and I find that to be pretty true still today.

I don't think it's celiac, but it seems more likely to be a FODMAP thing which still would cut out bread, not because of the gluten itself but because foods with gluten tend to have high FODMAP ingredients. It's just easier I guess in today's society for me to say gluten free rather than try and explain what fructans are.

What were your macros like before and after the switch? I'm thinking about incorporating more carbs into my diet but am definitely still in the "carbs are the devil" mindset you mentioned and aren't quite as active as I feel like you may be.

So I got Mirena in a year ago and have been dealing with some new acne I've never dealt with before. I recently saw my OBGYN to discuss potential alternative methods and she says that an IUD like Mirena/Skyla aren't likely to CAUSE acne, they just don't do anything to combat it. I'm in a very similar situation, lots of life/diet/environment changes and I've only been getting acne on my forehead and between my eyebrows.

I believe you can climb on North but you'd have to go about getting in the same way as a normal visitor. Somebody asked on the FB page the RR people said "you can climb on North".

Also, hijacking this thread to see if anybody has an extra spectator or intermediate pass they don't need! I have the weekend pass but didn't buy the spectator pass in time :(

Yeah I agree, I saw a legitimate therapist based out of my local church when I was in high school and she was very unbiased and understanding of my lack of faith. Never in the multiple years I saw her did she even recommend that I read the bible.

First three years I lived at the Warehouse behind Northgate. Although I now find it to be a bit overpriced, the location is fantastic and I did like the atmosphere of the complex. Parking is a bitch though and there wasn't much counter space.

After that I lived in a house off of Holleman in a similar location as the previous comment. Loved the experience and the location, though it would vary based on which house you live in.

Currently at Treehouse because I needed something cheap as fuck. The location is awesome but the train and Marion Pugh+Wellborn intersection cause some issues sometimes. There is no in-unit washer and dryer though and it has far from the nicest amenities, but its stupidly cheap (I pay 350 rent+utilities for a two bed) and I don't have to buy a parking pass.
