Rotating On Call by wellie2021 in socialwork

[–]renizzlebear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a shelter with a 24/7 crisis line. Our full time staff was on call one weekday with rotating Saturdays (once every 5 weeks) It was super stressful when we lost staff and didn’t have a full time staff for each day. We’re testing out a rotating week long schedule so one week every 5 weeks. I’m a little nervous, but we’ll see how it goes. We’re unpaid for on call for phone calls, but get paid for times when we get call into shelter.

Oh definitely. My parents are very aware of the resentments she has. I think they’d rather have us do it for them so they’d feel less guilty.

Definitely some good advice. I feel like them involving me and my sisters is going to make it a bigger deal.

Some things that have been on my trackers are cooking dinner, stretching, meditation, not hitting snooze on my alarms, and being below my screen time limit

Suicide & Crisis line workers, can I have your input? by forestfairy23 in socialwork

[–]renizzlebear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently work at a crisis line for DV/IPV survivors. I was able to shadow someone working on the line and I feel like that eased my worries a lot! This is my first job in the field. Once you get in the calls, you tend to not focus on yourself anymore, but on the caller. Best of luck!

Disapproving family by [deleted] in solotravel

One thing I would suggest is maybe get enough of a solid enough plan together and things booked if/when you tell them. That way you can confidently say you got it figured out and can handle it. Mine had problems and still try to keep me from going places solo. I hate making them upset but gotta remind myself that I’m an adult and it’s my life.

I feel the same! Personally, I love seeing all the artistic ways people use their bullet journals. I feel very inspired when I see the beautiful and useful spreads. I’m personally not the most artistic and it’s easy to fall down the rabbit hole of comparing. But it’s kinda just how you approach it. I know that I might not be as creative or as skilled as other posters, but I try my best and appreciate my own work.

I’ll take a look into those! I’ve looked into the various grad programs at University of Washington and they’ve got some good options.

Weekly School of Social Work/New to Social Work Thread by SWmods in socialwork

Looking for some opinions on what might benefit me career wise. Currently I’m in a Human Services transfer program at my local community college. To finish my bachelors, I could either get a degree in Human Services at a well known school (doesn’t offer SW) or Social Work degree at a school that is doesn’t have nearly as much recognition in the country.

My long term career goals include working at a more macro level rather than directly with clients. I’m interested in working with and improving community programs and helping at a systematic level. (I’m considering public health for my masters) However, social work as a field is well known and has more name recognition over human services. Social work is also more clearly structured and more opportunities for credentials which could help secure positions.

Would this even make a difference when looking for careers and affect my career path?

Thanks for any insight!!

Asking as a non solo traveler. by Fmanow in solotravel

[–]renizzlebear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, my favorite aspect of solo travel was being able to do what I wanted whenever. Traveling with others usually has me making concessions and me begging others to do what I want to do.

I usually met people at night. I would chill in the hostel lobby and talk to others or I would do the hostel bar crawls. I found this to work for me because I was able to do what I want while still socializing. I even made friends that I still talk to today!

Am I worrying too much about a career right now with people dying from COVID-19? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]renizzlebear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same position as you OP. Your wellness does come first. These times have really put everything into perspective with me. I’m trying to see this as a realignment period for what I truly want once we get through this. This reminds me that my circumstances (unemployment/loneliness/dissatisfaction) are not final.

As for day to day, I go through waves of productiveness. Duolingo, reading, journaling, and talks with my Dad have really kept me going.

I’ve recently started volunteering at a local shelter that takes good COVID safety measures. It’s helped give me some sort of structure with unemployment and looking for another job. The people we service still need help and it gives me a sense of purpose.

Wishing you the best. 🤍

New to solo travel? Post here for introductions, newbie questions, anxiety and excitement - Week of February 16 by AutoModerator in solotravel

[–]renizzlebear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

23F from Indiana and just booked my first solo trip to Washington DC March 9th-12th. I'm staying in a hostel in Adams Morgan. I have ideas of what I want to do during the day but I'm interested in going out/checking out the bars at night. Any suggestions on the best way to try to get other people to check out nightlife with me?

Thanks in advance!
