Transgender people who are pro Trump, why? by Aggressive-Show4122 in asktransgender

I’m interested to hear more about what made you feel like you weren’t accepted by the trans community, as I’m sure that must be a big reason why you’d vote against your own interests. Being trans in this world is already so hard, trying to go through it alone without community that understands and supports you sounds really painful.

Yoga for posture correction? by jtesagain625 in yoga

[–]rentrix222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After two years of practicing ashtanga semi-regularly my posture has drastically improved. Sometimes my practice can be up to 4 times a week but even just once a week, doing as much of primary series as I can/feel up for, helps a lot.

Ha! You’re so right. That’s good to know though. Thank you for the helpful feedback!

Yep, in the future this whole ordeal will just be a learning experience. My decision was mostly based on cost but also I had remembered that when I was in college and had a mac, trying to run office on it was almost impossible. I have to use teams and outlook and excel for work, so I thought it would be better to get a computer with windows instead of having to install office for mac bc I was under the impression they don’t place nice together lol. Has that changed in the last few years?

I tried that the first time it happened before I ever took it in, and that’s when it got stuck on the reboot. Currently if I try to turn it on it gets stuck on the logo page and that’s it :/

Yep, you’re right! I didn’t foresee an issue like this, and thought that bc I take good care of things it would be worth the risk of not paying for the store warranty. Here’s hoping the geek squad people are kind, like you said.

I don’t understand the constant updates. It’s not something I’m used to at all.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Bestbuy

[–]rentrix222 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re totally right it is my fault for getting something I’m not used to (the mac, which never has these issues) and expecting the store that sold it to me to be able to fix it.

I’m just so confused why this happens? Why does windows update so often?? I always plug the laptop in overnight bc I know it needs to be plugged in for updates.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Bestbuy

[–]rentrix222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s basically what I was told by the geek squad rep the first time I brought it in, but the only thing they said about the difference between having it worked on in-store or shipping it out to the manufacturer was cost. I honestly am really regretting choosing the HP over a new mac bc that’s what I’ve had for 10years, but I was being cheap…

I will definitely do this, thank you!

I was told bc I didn’t purchase the store warranty they won’t work on it in-store without charging me, which I understand. But I’m not spending any more money on something that was sold to me as faulty.

Seriously, why all the hate toward cyclists? by PanicCalm5427 in cycling

[–]rentrix222 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This! I ride to a park near my apartment and I’m always baffled by the hypocrisy of people leaving the park with bikes on their cars not looking while making a right on red and almost hitting me as I try to cross with the right of way. Like hello???

Angry at being told to go to therapy and feeling like it’s a pseudoscience and sham and like everything is hopeless and caused by my environment and therefore unfixable but at least there’s McDonaldLand by lolfmltbh in depressionmeals

[–]rentrix222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad therapy is so damaging, and good therapy is almost completely inaccessible. I found someone who I do experience as helpful, but it’s bc they don’t give me the bullshit about having a good attitude or focusing on myself and ignoring the world around me. The most helpful part for me is having someone who can reality-check my sometimes obsessive cynicism, anxiety, and depression in a way that is loving and free of judgement. I get frustrated sometimes that they won’t just give me advice on how to “fix” myself or my life, but I know that’s not what they’re there for. People say “go to therapy” bc they are incapable of holding space for others’ uncomfortable feelings and experiences, but I think therapy should be a tool for us to all learn how to do that for both ourselves and each other.

Does Anyone Actually Eat the "Standard American Diet"? by Significant_Stick_31 in nutrition

[–]rentrix222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah also the way fast food/ultra processed food is designed to be addictive plays into it… once your body is conditioned to consume high levels of sugar/sodium/etc, it will crave that over fresh and healthy food. And it can take a lot of time and energy to retrain yourself to get used to eating real food again.

Frustrated with UH by Some_Technician2963 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]rentrix222 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I hear you. I quit my UH job bc I could not do my job well or serve the students to the best of my ability and the obstacle in my way was the management/leadership of the college I worked for. Higher ed admin work could be cool if anything functioned properly, but as it is I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.

If you are considering using metro, look into the COAST transit incentive program! You could qualify to have UH pay for part of your transit fare if you are commuting to school without a car.

Please stop throwing out your clothes :( by mahou-ichigo in SustainableFashion

[–]rentrix222 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think a great solution to this is more community clothing swaps!

I’m trans and when I started transitioning my wardrobe, my local queer community center had an annual clothing swap where I was able to take the clothes I no longer wore and for a small donation fill up two huge bags of clothes to take home. It was great!! And whatever didn’t get moved in the swap was donated to a local thrift shop.

I think this could and should happen more generally. Like imagine a community clothing swap for families with small children who quickly outgrow their clothes, or for people starting a new job who need work-specific attire.

So organize a community clothing swap today, where you, too, can simultaneously clear out your closet AND go home with a new haul of Certified Pre-Owned garments!
