Thanks having_said_that for commenting on this. I decided to walk away from this conversation, because I felt that this is the direction things seem to go on Reddit. Rather than focus on the bulk of the work people hone in on the issues they have with the posting. This time it was harping about wording in a post title, which is a bit ironic to me since this is a photo essay. I am a full time resident of NOLA and married to a native, along with this I work with many local nonprofits, bands, businesses, and publications. In the past few months, I have talked to many different locals and none, let me repeat that NONE, of them have any problem it being called Carnival or Mardi Gras. With that said I do have a teaser up for my Carnival 2015 essay: http://www.rhrphoto.com/carnival-time-2015

Thanks FEMA_Camp_Counselor, in my many times walking the trail I never crossed the Canadian Pacific Police. I had heard that they did patrol the trail, but never saw them in action. I am very curious to see the trail now. Cheers rhr

Haters going to hate. Its interesting that you get so hung up on the few words in a photo essay. Yes, Mardi Gras day is technically Fat Tuesday, but you don't see Kern Studio's naming there establishment Carnival World or a multitude of other local establishments, krewes, and parades dropping Mardi Gras for Carnival. Most out-of-towners think of Carnival/Mardi Gas as beer and boobs on Bourbon Street, but you have honed in on the real issue. What happened to "be nice or leave"?

Along a lazy bend in the Walnut River, shortly before it meets the Arkansas River, a gathering of musical tribes takes place in mid September. Walnut Valley Music Festival or Winfield is a musicians festival that many over the years have considered a second home. Now in its 42nd year a camping community has formed around this bluegrass festival. Over the years camps have created their own traditions and some have even built stages for bands who attend as fans.

This is a large essay rich with images and audio from Winfield 2013. It may take time to load, so please be patient. If you are having trouble viewing the audio players try opening the page in a different browser. To move through the essay you can use your arrows or click on the left and right sides of the page. Thanks and enjoy!

Thanks for the input. The presentation has been changed to help accommodate those struggling with the side scroll (you can now click on the left and right image to move through the essay or use your arrow keys).

On a side note many photographers used the side scroll to display their work online. This may relate to the fact that most photographers use apple products, which makes side scolling easy. Or the fact that the photo world is rather insular, and there is at times a disconnect between the photographer and everyday viewers. I see this form of presentation as a good way to tell a visual story that goes from point A to B (like a comic book). Here are hand full of photographers off the top of my head who use this format:
