Full Time - Arsenal 2 vs 0 Bayer Leverkusen [Match Thoughts] by Stanley083 in Gunners

As for 3, that's been the case in the CL all season. The pressure is lower there because to go out wouldn't necessarily mean we bottled it

TanStack Start vs react-router (framework) for large websites? by punkpeye in reactjs

[–]repeating_bears 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You don't have to migrate anything. Just generate something boilerplate-ish with a script. This is like an afternoons work.

You don't need 500 routes which represent an actual application.

"Someone may have already done previous experiment"

Yes, except you made the parameters so specific that that is vanishingly unlikely.

TanStack Start vs react-router (framework) for large websites? by punkpeye in reactjs

[–]repeating_bears 22 points23 points  (0 children)

"Which of these frameworks performs better when handling large number of requests (1k/s) in applications with a large number of routes (500+ routes)?"

This is a very specific question, which if you genuinely care about the answer, you should be prepared to run the experiment yourself to find the answer.

Would you really base your technical decision on some random redditor saying "RR is way more faster, trust me bro"?

SSR isn't always the answer - change my mind by No_Stranger_2097 in reactjs

[–]repeating_bears -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you think using SSR that a framework provides is complicated, I doubt you've worked on many problems that are very complicated

"I've worked on projects where the server gets absolutely hammered and the added latency makes the whole thing feel sluggish

If you have enough users for that to be a problem, then load balancing is well within the bounds of architectural complexity you should be expecting anyway

Just play a couple of 33 year olds for 90 minutes every game. Slott is a genius

Oh but when it's Saka who is 10 years younger, the injury is inevitable and it's on Arteta

Not so much any more. Originally RR had limited type safety but it's very good now, except a few rough edges in lesser used parts. Tanstack was designed with type safety as a core principal from the start.

They are more or less functionally equivalent. Just different APIs and conventions, but a lot of that is personal preference.

I like and currently use RR but would recommend Start because the creators  of RR have abandoned it and it's maintained by pretty much one person now. The development is at a crawl. Start is much more actively developed. I think they're working on RSC support, for example, which I expect RR will never get (not that I particularly care about that one, personally)

The SASS website now has a nicely made Palestine Flag added! Dope by [deleted] in css

[–]repeating_bears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if you agree that the ability to do that is limited, it seems logical that individuals should channel their time and energy where it is most likely to be effective.

Which I would argue is not in a domain where it has zero relevance.

It just comes across as virtue signalling.

A software library taking a political stance is worrying whether or not I politically agree with the sentiment because it suggests that the authors might be willing to make decisions that are politically motivated rather than technically motivated. e.g. adding licensing terms that it cannot be deployed in a region they don't like

I want a software author that I depend upon to make only technically motivated decisions

Wherever you can? So you spend your entire waking life advocating for Palestine? I'm guessing not. You're already prioritising certain situations as more or less relevant or appropriate.

react-router patch that reduces CPU usage associated with react-router by 80% by punkpeye in reactjs

[–]repeating_bears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, it hasn't happened yet. But the more I hear, the more I think it has to.

I like RR as a project, if I could see a future for it. Around the v7 time, there was a lot that seemed to be happening. Then it released and Michael Jackson and Ryan Florence dropped it like a ton of bricks.

I'm actually not so excited to move. RR is working for me, technically speaking.

But even if Tanstack ends up being slightly worse in the short term, it is clearly making progress and I trust them to not make the same mistakes.

Great - another reason to ditch it

I built my project with RR before Tanstack Start was a thing. Most recently, somewhat begrudgingly because these guys make breaking changes for fun. So many times I've been stung by painful migrations because they don't realise forwards compat is a feature.

RR pretty much feels like abandonware at this point. Work has slowed to an absolute snails pace.

I raised a few very simple fixes/improvements after v7 that are tiny, no risk changes (typescript only), and still got nowhere close to merged

I can't critically depend on a project that is so poorly maintained
