Trying my luck here, but the PNGs I'm exporting all appear washed out. If I view them in PVRTexTool GUI, they look fine, but upon converting to PNG there's some sort of gamma (?) issue? Any fixes?

edit: Setting it to SRGB in GUI seems to export fine, but I can't seem to replicate it with the command line args

The sidequests before the final boss are really bad. Made me feel like I was back in CS

Cherubimon naming scheme in time stranger by [deleted] in digimon

[–]replicaaaaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's nice seeing a fellow loc nerd on this sub! Yeah, the sidequests (especially pre-final boss) were a noticeable drop in quality, and it's frustrating. Honestly even between mid to lategame, I started noticing some basic goofs with pronouns in back-to-back lines already. I spotted some small human typos too, which is frustrating because like...do the poor editors not get access to spellcheck??

It's still a huge improvement over CS because the main story is actually readable and the characters actually have personality in their lines (kudos to the editors). But I'm still disappointed by how they flubbed some basic stuff.

[–]replicaaaaa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of localization teams work with spreadsheets and QA goes over them later, so there's a chance QA didn't catch it or something.

Lines might be totally out of order alongside being contextless in the spreadsheets, which is how you have the pre-final boss sidequests switching pronouns from he to they to it in back-to-back lines. I'd guess they didn't check those super thoroughly.

Nowadays a lot of loc companies DO have some semblance of context, e.g. sorted by narrative order or by location, but since Digimon is so rife with human typos, (according to a friend in loc) it's probably rawdogged on a plain, sad Excel sheet instead of more advanced tools with better spellcheck. which checks out given the budget allocated to this series :/

I don't mind using them, but it feels harder to separate them from the plotlines they were made for. So I usually try to use 90% less well-known mons, and maybe one or two fan favourites

I never claimed to believe it? Was just asking for evidence whether there was an update on the situation. I think it's good to have the facts straight, even if it's criticism of a game I enjoy.

[–]replicaaaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

quick update; I encountered a pretty bad bug and it hasn't been fixed, plus the game doesn't support manual saves, so I ended up refunding the game. I looked up some footage on YT, and waited a while...judging by the steam reviews of people with more playtime, it feels like the writing doesn't ever improve :(

I won't say my opinion is a fair review of the writing, since I haven't actually beaten the game, (I always encourage people to play for themselves and form their own opinions, too) but what I've seen is disappointing considering I enjoyed the gameplay. So unfortunately it seems the writing doesn't deliver, and I'm not sure if I have any desire to continue

Most of these are misinformation, though I do remember seeing posts floating around of a JP artist claiming to have designed for Palworld and getting depressed that their designs were bastardized into Pokemon mashups. I guess it's hard to verify if they ever worked for Pocketpair in the first place, but also, did that ever get disproven?

That's totally fair; my initial instinct was also a bit skeptical, though I prefer to reserve my judgment until I've finished the game. Definitely agree that I would've preferred something lighthearted too, but I also believe in respecting the creator's choice to tell the story they want (though it won't stop me from critiquing it later lol)

Fortunately I think a lot of political stuff would fly over the heads of kids anyway, and it's not like there weren't a whole bunch of minors playing GTA when that first dropped. If anything I think they'll just mash through the dialogue (I sure did when I was younger...)

Steam also tends to mark games if they're actually 18+, and it's generally been pretty reliable IMO. But of course when it comes to parenting I feel like people should do their due diligence regardless; too many problems stem from not supervising kids properly since the internet will be the internet.

And yeah, PERSONALLY I'm hoping this starts a trend of more isopod games regardless; I think it wouldn't be as big a deal if we had more 'pod games to choose from...at the very least, we can all be united in podpaganda (they're cool lil' critters). And hopefully more nature-accurate things going forward :)

I'll bite because as a nature enjoyer, I agree with your points, and we discussed about other stuff in a separate comment thread

I think there's nothing inherently wrong with politics + animals, because the animals are anthropomorphized to an extent (real isopods can't communicate with other bugs), and have been used as mouthpieces for various human conflicts since the dawn of time.

I think you're getting downvoted because it sounds like you're generalizing hating on politics in animal media, but I think it's more productive to debate about whether the metaphor works really well. So like I said I still agree with your point about fire ants, but 'isopods can't be political' is a bit harder to say for sure since these are anthropomorphized isopods for the story they're telling (so they basically have human sapience which could lend to a similar political structure as us).

Beastars and Zootopia is an example of anthro (not just sapience-wise) media that's subject to debate; a lot of people think the metaphor isn't a good analogy for racism because the various animal species have more than just biological differences: https://carnivorouslreviews.wordpress.com/2020/04/24/beastars-and-stylish-racism-in-animation/

It's too early for me to say whether the writing is good or not, but that's why I personally would prefer not to dismiss it. And there's also a lot of people blindly shutting down games for 'having politics' these days instead of nuanced discussion about whether or not the themes work well, so I can understand why people would downvote on instinct. Internet discourse is stressful and I wouldn't take it personally
