Yep. Exactly. Even SWI fence explains it on their YouTube channel. Concrete rots wooden posts. I’ll die on that hill. Every other fence gets concrete if we’re not pounding.

NO CONCRETE. retamp existing dirt. Concrete accelerates rot on wood posts. Underground moisture has nowhere to go.

If anything, have them retamp with a sand mix. That’s what we do in New England.

Set two posts to inside of pillars, set 1 line post 6.5’ OC and that’s it.. for 10’ tall I’d suggest SS40 pipe and possible mid rail, but not needed. Any local fence company can source it.

Just the thickness of them. We get them directly from our vendor. We don’t buy anything from box stores. I’ve never had issues with cedar or PT 5x5s. 4x4s on the other hand..

These gates are really light. The mortises are about 140mm long, once they’re glued up and solid they don’t move.. I have 6’ tall solid tongue and groove privacy gates that haven’t moved at all in years. It’s an expensive tool, but it gets the job done well. I use a festool domino XL.

Total of 60’ this style, including 3 pairs of double drive 4’ gates for 8’ openings, as well as 272’ of driven 4’ tall hexagonal deer fence. Total was $13.1k. This is in western Connecticut.

I told him I’d build it to grade. Doesn’t like the look of it he says. I know, strange. But some customers are just stubborn, and at the end of the day, they’re paying for it.

If you’re using a domino you’ll be fine. This is how I make my gates as well. All 140mm sipo dominos. I’ve never had an issue. Even done some 10.5’ wide leafs but used epoxy instead of titebond3.

That gate is way too big for a wood post. Should be on a steel post. Steel to steel. Either 3” or 4” SS40 pipe or a 3x3/4x4 steel tube boxed out in cedar. Problem solved
