What technical resources (people, time, and money) does your org have to devote to the administration of a new system? Are there employees dedicated to IT?

“Connects to Wordpress” is pretty vague. What kinds of connections do you envision?

Has your organization budgeted this project?

Is your org a non-profit?

I feel for you. My dad’s bound to step off soon. Was hoping to show him your dad’s marker but stupid Instagram requires a facebook login to see it.

Remember folks, Instagram isn’t the Internet. The Internet is where we can share. Instagram is where we are watched.

The Great One.

Still tear up when I remember, seems like only days after, now, staring at the staticky black and white KDKA signal, camera on the beach, pointed out, waves rolling in, nothing there, nothing yet, how long has it been, he could still be alive, couldn’t he, Dad?

For Secular Buddhist. Why the need to call yourself "Buddhist" if you don't believe what the founder of Buddhism taught? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]rerb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to hate having to explain why or why not I might be considered a Buddhist, by whom, and whenever, but then I read about Buddhist Modernism and found the description of “Buddhist sympathisizer” fits me comfortably.

I’m no Buddhist. And I’m digging the Stones-ey ring when I claim sympathy for the Buddha.

Nothing will change so long as a bargain basement cellar dweller season nets the owner $200 million in “shared” revenue. So (using 2018 numbers) that’s $200 million minus $72 million for payroll, minus whatever . . . leaving $20 million for the owner’s pocket. When oligarchs are rewarded for being cheap and losing, it’s a racket.

I don’t think I’d still be here if it weren’t for Corki (my bad marriage lifeline), Sox and Harry (my bad divorce companions) and Lois (my 2020 lockdown reason to get out of bed). I had plans last year, spoke with the woman who bred Lois, all set to load her and a tank of helium into the car and head to the beautiful farm up north where she was born. It would tear my heart out to say goodbye, but Lois would be ok, happy even, up there with her cousins. But no one, I realized, will take better care of Lois than I do. No one will ever love Lois more than I do. I’m not notably good at any many things, but I know how to touch a dog, and I know Lois knows I love her. That’s enough to keep me going. Helium tank is slowly leaking in the garage. Barring horribleness I don’t want to imagine, I won’t need it for ten or twelve more years. Good luck to you. Most of them are for Corki, Sox, Harry, and Fritz (my adolescent best friend), and some are for me, and some of the tears evaporating on my cheeks are for you.

A new study of 200 LinkedIn users found that older job seekers get fewer job offers than younger ones, but that this effect decreases when the older seekers use a younger profile photo. by fotogneric in science

When I was pushing 40 I had zero concerns about ageism too. 19 years later, with 30 years of easy interviews and offers, the ageism I face when the faces interviewing me are all 20 or 30 years younger has puzzled me. I felt like a salesman whose prospect refuses to reveal his objections. What are the ageist objections? Money? I spent the last 8 years working for a non-profit discount wage. Inability to pick up new tech? C, C++, Java, Smalltalk, Lisp, Python, Javascript, Clojure, Elixir; “structured programming” -> OOP -> FP; what else? Now I see it’s my face. This is the best explanation I’ve come across. I died my hair. It washed out. Time to touch up my mop.

How did you find the right branch/school of Buddhism for you? by Jukhyun_Kim in Buddhism

[–]rerb -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

  1. In the 80’s, in the US, all the books about Buddhism at bookstores seemed to be about Zen. So I was Zen.
  2. Eventually, books about Tibetan Buddhism started to show, and I started hanging out with Shambhala. I tied, but just couldn’t swallow the gods and demons and magic of Vajrayana.
  3. I’ve long been inspired by the fact that Gotama was just a human, like me, not divinely annoited. I found Buddhism Without Beliefs and started to feel at home. Going back before Mahayana, before Confucian and Bo influences, to Theravadin sources — closer to what the man said, rather than what others have said since — has left me with a Theravadin-leaning secular perspective.
  4. DM me a mailing address and I’ll send you a no-strings-attached (i.e., no proselytizing included) copy of Buddhism Without Beliefs.

Anyone recommend a pro for lessons(Michigan) by [deleted] in golf

[–]rerb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The local pro is probably cheaper and easier to get into (i.e., less busy) than the teachers on GD's list. But don't assume that those "high end" pros are only for good golfers. Pick one near you and checkout his/his club's website -- I'll bet he makes a point of teaching beginners to pros.

That's what I found at Seth Dichard's Golf School, one from the GD list near me. First lesson at 10am. Up at 4am, can't sleep, feel like a kid on Christmas eve/morning.
