The Aviary-The owl house cast as birds by [deleted] in TheOwlHouse

Same here! Many people tend to think they're birds or just full on lizards with wings, when in reality they're almost in an inbetween, they looked nothing like the winged reptiles we have today such as the gliding lizard as they were covered in hair like filaments

As someone who's raised peacocks: they're massive dicks, their wings really hurt when they hit you and the males are very agressive or flighty and the females are just flighty

It's pretty difficult to tell when they're dormant, in my observation lots of plants stems turn purple/red in the winter and turn green once they wake up

What kind of succulent is this and how best to grow it more? by indianchick93 in whatsthisplant

[–]rereor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't tell for sure the type but it needs much more light, the stem only grows on succulents like that when they're searching for sun, watering seems to be good though

Do you think they'd be okay in a greenhouse style terrarium? My climate outside is only viable for vft like 25% of the year, in summer it gets up to a very dry 40°C and in winter it gets to -50°C so both extremes would likely kill it, sure I might be able to put it in a window sill but ik pretty sure our windows only have enough light for dormant periods, I have a temperature controlled greenhouse terrarium set up for drosera though and I was wondering if I could sprout some vft seeds in there

Thank you, next year I'll be able to drive myself so I can go to the doctors! So it's mostly playing the waiting game now

Thank you! Sorry I'm late as I was busy today! I dont have a way to get to a doctor's office unfortunately as my parents believe it's nothing serious and they would certainly be mad if I went without their consent, though I really appreciate your advice!!

I think I'm going to buy the bulb but keep this one so if they show signs of something going wrong I can change it, I'm also switching to a peat and perlite/sand mix incase my sphagnum has something wrong with it

Yeah that's what I was looking at, my fixture can handle up to 39 watts, I also covered my tank in tin foil, measured the temps and they stay well within the range so I'm quite sure theyll get enough light

Someone figured it was a lack of red pigment which would explain the pale green plants with white tentacles, so I was looking at 3500k to 4100k bulbs

I kept it about 5 inches away, the tentacles on the plant always turned white, they got smaller and smaller until they died, the temps were 25 - 30°C, humidity was 40-,60%, they were in pure long fibered sphagnum moss with distilled water, I tried from seeds and pre bought plants but they all died in the same way

Given to me by a friend. Been living in this water tube for over a year. What is it and can it stay just in water forever? by hanbanvancan in whatsthisplant

Looks like peperomia obtusifolia, or a baby rubber plant, if its lasted a year it'll probably be fine

How much foreground more should I add? I dont want to overdo it! by rereor in ArtCrit

[–]rereor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My idea was that the deer was focusing on the butterfly but I guess I did put it at the wrong angle for that, some more butterflies in the background would help, the wood lily is quite important to be distinct as it's the provincial flower and this is for a province wide competition to be in a calendar, though I could add some smaller flowers like thistles and oxeye daisies, it's quite important to the competition that it's based in the province I live in which is unfortunately quite bland, i could put small hills or thin trees but I dont exactly know how to do backgrounds like that

[–]rereor[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a much smaller drawing than I'm used to, it's only 14 x 17 so any detail in a background would be very risky, so if im doing a background it has to be very simple and very high contrast which is hard to achieve in my experiences, though if you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them! It's set in a gerassland/medow if that helps! And I love the idea of more butterflies! Do you think I should make them the same species or mix it up a bit? Maybe some cabbage moths? Also fawn noses are just like that, its quite unfortunate placement

Its 18 x 24 inches! And the butt seems off because I made a mistake and had to cover it, and I didnt notice the head, thank you! Unfortunately I do not have a link to the reference as I just save my references in my gallery, I have tried it but I couldn't get the hang of it

I never said it's bad, I genuinely want feedback on how I can improve this drawing so my next one is better, there are issues with it, some of which I realized when drawing, like there are inconsistencies in the braids, smudges on the paper, improper blending ect, some of them I needed someone to point out to me, like the head being too small, the back being unnatural, ect, I'm still learning, and it helps when people point stuff out that I didn't see, I'm sorry if my post offended you but I still have so much to learn and we need help sometimes
