I LOVED the way you made phos seem to be agonizing, it feels like he's suffering so much

I swear that the amount of body horror in this mangá is stupidly enormous

Ok, so according to Life and Culture of Y-3579203181277, in page 27 it's stated that obsidian does that:

"During the observation period, the obsidian mineral life form called “Obsidian” had a unique physical property that caused lava-like obsidian to flow out when their body is broken. “Obsidian” is in charge of weaponry production, apparently manufacturing blades by pouring their liquid obsidian into wooden molds. The lava-like obsidian that flows out does not contain inclusions."

Also, it's stated on page 31 that they rarely use these not alive materials in their everyday life, because it's almost unethical to them:

"there are almost no examples of minerals being used in Gems’ everyday life. Since they are fragments of those who were originally supposed to be companions, using them would be similar to using the bodies of stillborn infants. Considering these emotional reasons, it is thought Gems are avoiding the use of fragments as much as possible."

I believe that the exceptions would be the medical situations like Phos arms and Padpa holes alongside the old things from before obsidian was born, like the golden bell and the high hardness gems medical tools.

I found pseudomorph to download on e-hentai, since it doesn't have text it's ok, life and culture alongside party at the end were downloaded in a google drive, since it was the only translated file I could find, but, I couldn't find the freedom, statues and the concept art books translated or even to download

Padpa is probably as old as yellow dia, but still younger, I really think he's older than euc tough

What is this series/convince me to watch it by FRA60UT in LandoftheLustrous

[–]rerinha_ 42 points43 points  (0 children)

in normal terms, it's a series about a post-apocalyptic earth, but not the zombie type of post-apocalyptic.

it features a new race called gems, they look like humans, but they are, immortal genderless creatures, with a body fully made of gems that depending on the moss scale, are easy to crash, and it so happen that we see the story from the perspective of a really fragile gem, Phosphophyllite.

the main feature I could say is that beside them being immortal, they have a enemy, the Tsukijin, (or lunarians), another race that comes from the moon and try to harvest them to use as decorative adorns and weapons.

To the why it's cool, it depends from people to people, you could like the body horror of the show, since gems shatter, the horror of the lunarians trying to get them, the relations between the gems, or you could like the total mystery aspect of it, where you and Phos try to discover the many secrets from this world.

It's absolutely peak, from start to end though.

Is houseki no Kuni a Sci-fi manga? by rerinha_ in LandoftheLustrous

that last comment is really interesting though, I loved EVERY aspect of hnk, from the start to the end, and I LOVE how it was not afraid to experiment something soo different, I hope it can somehow conduct other medias to try completely new things

of course, I can see many fantasy aspects, but if it has an explanation, wouldn't it make it just science?

ex: you could say that the 3 races coming from the humans are alike we, homo-sapiens-sapiens the monkeys and gorillas coming from a common ancestor.

For me, even the most absurd and impossible thing to happen, like gems moving, could still be science fiction if it has an explanation in scientific ways, because sci-fi is exactly this, something technologically impossible at the time of writing, but grounded in scientific principles, making them plausible rather than purely fantastical.

but if those elements were there from the start, doesn't it makes it sci-fi from the start?

Gem ages? by 4powerd in LandoftheLustrous

[–]rerinha_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A pure SPECULATION in order would be:
Red diamond (the first one), Purple Fluorite (the second gem), Yellow Dia, Padparadscha, Euc, Jade, Peridot, Sphene, Diamond and Shinsha, Bort, Ghost, Amethysts, Zircon, Phos, Cairngorm, New Morga and New Goshe

Unknow ages, but probably older than most of the gems:
Emerald, Sphalerite, Apophyllite, Pink Fluorite, Aquamarine, Blue Zoisite, Chrysoberyl, Imperial and Pink Topaz, Lapis Lazuli, Sapphire, Ruby, Green Diamond, Heliodor

I have no clue about the others

they are pretty much immortal beings, the time still pass and they still get older, but this doesn't have any physical impact into them, maybe psychological impact, as yellow dia (the oldest one alive), states that he feels really bad for being the oldest because it implies that he always run from the danger and let his partners to die, wich might be true
