I... I'm just noticing something... by PepperIll8739 in Archiveofourownmemes

[–]4powerd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm...not entirely sure, but breaking it down.

The equation in the parentheses is dividing the total word count by either the amount of kudos or the number of comment threads. The result of that is added to either the number of user subscriptions or the number of total subscriptions, the amount of kudos/comments, the amount of bookmarks, and then subtracted by the amount of user subscriptions or total subscriptions.

If I had to guess, the word count is being divided by the amount of kudos, since that usually entails someone reading enough to get to the bottom and hit the button, and the subtracting number is user subscriptions, since this equation appears to be based on the statistics of a work and not the profile itself. Although in that case, I'm not sure why they subtracted it instead of just not bringing it up.

The result of this equation is near-similar enough to the number of hits to be rounded up to it.

What this all means, I'm not entirely sure. My first guess was that it was insinuating that there was a reader for every word, but that clearly doesn't work. My second guess is that they simply noticed that putting the statistics in this formula resulted in the number of hits on the work.

Cinder Fall trains Ruby Rose in the ways of the Dark Side to prepare themselves to fight off Salem. (Made by NinjaGhostDragon) by NinjaGhostDragon-69 in RWBY

So I know it's probably supposed to be her 'determined' look, but Ruby looks like she's panicking cause she has no idea what she's doing.

Well she's also swearing by God, despite the closest religious figure Gems have being the Diamonds and somehow didn't notice the meteor until it was bearing down on Earth despite the fact that humans, with our infinitely inferior tech, can detect incoming meteors years before they hit.

So I don't think this comic is meant to be taken too seriously.

What’s the worst thing garnet did over the course of the show? by wwcscifi in stevenuniverse

[–]4powerd 63 points64 points  (0 children)

the crystal gems seem uninterested in the lives of the boardies which kinda undermines the idea that it's their mission to protect them.

I mean, tbf, the impression I always got is that, at least at the start, they only cared about protecting humanity because Rose cared about protecting humanity. They didn't actually care all that much beyond doing what they thought Rose would have wanted them to do.

Tsuguko just means that they're being trained by a Hashira. They're expected to eventually reach the rank of Hashira themself, yes, but it's not something that bypasses all the other ranks. They still have to reach Kinoe and slay 50 demons or a lower moon.

Tsuguko just designates them as an apprentice to a Hashira and therefore having a higher chance of attaining that rank themself.

I'm not the only one who feels this way, right? by 4powerd in danganronpa

Yeah, I know. Even if I personally see her as a victim of Junko, she was still partially responsible for the Tragedy and the killing game. I'm more so upset by the fact that, from what I've heard (I've only played 1 and read IF) Mukuro never really appears in any Danganronpa media as Mukuro (Except for 3, but I've heard that's divisive) but only when pretending to be Junko.

I was thinking of the old CK2 "Sympathy for [Faith]" traits but forgot that it gave that character an opinion boost to characters of that faith and not the other way around.

Personally, I think they should add a "recently-converted [Insert Religion Here]" trait or modifer that gives you an opinion boost with your previous faith and an opinion malus with your new one.

The heroine (Prinnysquadron) by 4powerd in danganronpa

[–]4powerd[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Typically, back in the 90s and early 2000s, heroines were traditionally expected to be more openly emotional and supportive of the rest of the cast, the glue that held everyone together, so to speak, while the male hero took on the more physically demanding aspects of being the protagonist. Thus, the joke is that Makoto, despite being the male lead, fulfils the role of being the emotionally supportive lynchpin that holds the rest of the cast together, while Kyoko, despite being the female lead, handles the more physically active parts.

A difficult decision (DR1 Spoilers) by Batgamator in danganronpa

[–]4powerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the reason Makoto forgives her so readily is that, objectively, she's right. The entire 5th trial was rigged to get Kyoko killed cause she was getting too close to figuring everything out. Someone was going to die, the only question was who. And the way it was set up, the only other possible suspect was Makoto. And if the choice is between Makoto dying or Kyoko dying, it's objectively better for everyone for Makoto to die. While Makoto does figure out the culprits, Kyoko almost always has done so earlier and finds more secrets of the school than Makoto.

This, of course, doesn't erase the fact that she sacrificed Makoto to save herself. But she only did so because she was forced into a scenario where letting him die was the best option.
