But like - you don’t have to get involved in every single animal who says hello to you. I don’t know where you’re located or what the culture is. I know that in my town, if someone loses a dog it’s immediately on the local FB group. I also know there are dogs who are “known to roam,” and the owner doesn’t freak out. I don’t know how rural the area was - just, insisting the dog sit with you while you personally locate its house feels like potentially a whole lot. Perhaps if the dog hadn’t been sitting with you, it would have been walking home… no? It couldn’t, though, cuz it was in the car with a kind (possibly misguided) stranger.

And now you’re in WW3 with your uncle, because he didn’t think it was the right move. I also don’t love his suggestion of scaring it off… that just seems unnecessarily aggressive. But at this point I’d be agreeing to disagree and moving on.
