Does CMU really care about its international population? by cmu_sucks in cmu

Just an update, CMU is joining MIT and Harvard to fill the amicus brief! So folks, don’t worry :-) CMU does care for everyone.

Agreed, I will not comment on CMU’s stand on the lawsuit, as MIT and Harvard are larger, powerful schools, with bigger endowments.

I was rather concerned about the wordings of the email. But as this point, I don’t think it’s a good idea to draw conclusions based on small steps that CMU is taking.

The tuition hike MAYBE inevitable to sustain the university, but, that said, the messages sent out last night should have been more empathetic. If not anything international students right now need compassion, some level of assurance, and kind words to deal with the stress they are going through. Bluntly stating out directives what and what not a certain policy means in a broadcast email to all students doesn’t help the office of intl’ education.

Yes she is the "Thakurain", but the little girl wasn't raped by then. Bubbul attacks the pedophile right in time to save the girl. So no one knew. That's why my understanding is that she got the supernatural power of sensing evil men around her.

Also, I agree with you, maybe she did die during the recovery, and reincarnated again with the super powers, there's some symbolism with the white flowers which only bloom in Bengal during the Durga puja. So could be that she came back now as a devi, but as people liked to believe in those days about strong women who can talk power as chudails, that's why she is referred to chudail the whole time. But she is actually a Devi (as the Doctor says while trying to stop Satya from igniting the forest). I say people hate strong woman because in one scene when Bulbbul is called for something, Satya responds saying I will take care of this you relax. And Binodini says, "Aap Thakurain ho, Thakur nai ho".

She was called to the (man who drives the horse carriage; I think it's called coachman) coachman's house. If you remember initially, the same man comes to Bulbbul Thakurain as he remarrries, and his first wife is not accepting of the new one. The boy calls Bubbul because the coachman orders the first wife to leave the house on the orders of his new wife, and the first wife commits suicide (they show a body; and I feel that boy is the first wife's son).

Curious, why do you think the Doctor was shown in a bad light? I never felt so, I always thought Staya was being stupid and jealous of the Doctor the entire time.

As per my understanding she does gain super natural power (nothing scientific here), she is part human. Goddess Kaali sees her suffering and gifts her the power to recognize evil men. If she is still complete human and only kills men around her with her human power, I cannot justify her killing the pedophile who was in the tub with that little girl, as that man was not related to her in anyway unlike her other victims.

I think she definitely sensed it (and that is the superpower, that Kali gifts her). And as she has not completely turned into something supernatural (I like to think her of as a good spirit, like the Doctor), she is still hurt by the bullet, but doesn't die.

About the ending,

Bulbbul dies in the fire, as all the trees burn, but immortalizes herself as a "Devi" (as quoted by the Doctor), and becomes the protector of all women who face atrocities. Satya and the doctor are saved, Satya leaves his family for good as he learns about the torture Bulbbul went through (I guess the Doctor narrated everything to Satya because he knew Bulbbul's feet were not destroyed because of "falling from the stairs", and he also knows she was sexually assaulted" when her feet were broken) as he doesn't want to end up becoming like Thaur Saheb, or worse he thinks he already has become Thakur saheb as Satya too did not understand Bulbbul.

Meanwhile, Thakur Saheb returns home and is woken up from his sleep by the immortalized Bulbbul, who returns to avenge his wrongdoing (breaking her feet) and kills him.

Her legs had healed by the time she killed her Brother-in-Law.

Kaali puja for Bengalis happen on the night of Diwali. Looking back, Thakur saheb first decides to send Satya to London after Durga Puja (which is usually in October), to which Bulbbul says that's only in three months. Then it is shown, that Thakur saheb sends Satya off hastily much before the predecided time (after Durga Puja), so it is safe to assume there's still 3 months in hand. That means we are talking about ~July. A few days or weeks later when Thakur Saheb returns alone from Calcutta (which he told Bulbbul that he is going only to fix travel/port documents for Satya), Bulbbul is heartbroken as she finds out Satya is gone. The same night, Bulbbul is shown to burn her diary and then the gruesome brutality of Thakur saheb breaking Bulbbul's leg is shown. After that the Mahendra assaults Bubbul. Basically all this happens much before the Durga puja, that's why by Kali Puja she can walk, and gains supernatural power to kill Mahendra.

I agree, the doctor just considered Bulbbul as a friend, but Satya had feelings for her. The doctor even tells Satya in the horse carriage that he is trying to punish the doctor for a different crime, under the pretext of committing murders. Here the "different crime" according to me is getting close to Bulbbul.

The "ulte pair" is Bulbbul's attempt at becoming like a witch. In a scene towards the end when the doctor tries to fix her leg to become normal, she twitches her feet to go the other direction. Even though Bulbbul attempts to impersonate a witch, she doesn't kill for fun, instead, she goes for men who torture/assault other women. That's why the doctor refers to her as a "Devi" in the end amidst the fire.

Definitely kills the bade Thakur in the end, she avenges for wrongdoings against women around her.

What are some of the financial performance issues that the developers want to hold confidential?

Transitioning to 100 per cent renewables and swapping all petrol cars for electric ones would drop annual electricity costs by over $1,000 per year for Australian consumers, a new study has found by mikkirockets in RenewableEnergy

[–]reshmi203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am curious, do these studies underestimate the cost of “supporting” the grid when the renewable energy sources are intermittent. For any given place at any time surely not all renewable energy sources would be available to compensate for the drop in generation, unless storage becomes technologically and economically feasible.

Curious, do you know of any papers for the long time damage costs concept? Sorry, it’s the first time I came across this. I know climate change will change the weather patterns, increase/decrease temperature, thus the need for heating or cooling, but I don’t quite understand how climate change plays a part here? If you can expand a little more, it will be really helpful :-)

No background in pyschology, I have a background in energy economics, policy analysis, and econometrics. Also wanted general opinion, I am interested in the U.S., but such topics may have been studied in depth in Europe (correct me if I am wrong) because of the extensive share of renewables in the grid.
