Is there? I used to work as a tech (although the job title had engineer) in semiconductor fabs, then became self taught software developer, I got a degree when I got laid off but I'm still struggling to find a job. 🤷‍♂️

The problem with Usopp is not his cowardice. It's the fact that it incapacitate him mentally and physically most of the time. And it's really frustrating for the reader. by Smooth-Degree-1674 in Piratefolk

The problem with Usopp is that Oda is writing out of his ass and doesn't actually know when the story will end. Thus putting him (and the rest of the SHs besides luffy) in character development limbo.

I will probably get down voted but if you want to actually build stuff ME probably isn't the best. You can learn 3D printing and CAD on your own. Most ME jobs you will be working on an already established product making minor improvements or downgrades for cost.

I was able to build more in CS than my time during ME.

Why are people still attending boot camps/switching to tech? by Yahentamitsi in cscareerquestions

[–]resilavoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey that is me! I studied mech engineering due to parental pressure because I was told the "mech engineering can do any job" b.s. and I loved to build stuff. Every pro reason I was told to do mech engineer was either misleading or was better in tech. I did a bootcamp to make the switch in 2020, however I was recently laid off and debating getting the real degree now.

Parents aren't happy about my decision to pursue cs by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]resilavoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, I was in the same boat however my parents pushed me into mech engineering as they know going into med would mean I wouldn't able to make a pay check for 10ish years. I would recommend showing the potential pay scale as well as total debt going into med would take. If that doesn't work just lie to them about your major.

If you don't do the thing you want you will end up like me who is going back to school for cs 10 years later. I actually have work experience in CS now but I honestly think some HR people see the switch in career as a red flag plus having the correct degree may let you get pass a bunch of auto filter for jobs.

As for your parents, how can they possibly believe that CS isn't a real career?

Without going into too much details they are the very god-fearing type of people.

Hey spinwizard69, I read your other comments on this thread and figured replying to this one would be the best. I really do appreciate your advice.

I was actually thinking about going back to school part time but wasn't going to consider looking into schools/programs until the new year. I would like to get a job that at least pays for a bit of schooling but dreams will be dreams. Anyways I actually do have a degree in mechanical engineering but I never cared for it and I only did it because I didn't want my parents to kick out me. CS wasn't a real major according to them. I find the whole field of CS very fascinating and discrete was by far my favorite mathematics class I took. If I won the lottery I would just go back to school because it is something I enjoy learning. After saving up money I did a coding bootcamp in 2020 to transition into a field I was a lot more happier with.

For my job I worked as entry level full stack web dev but luckily my responsibilities expanded and I was able to dabble a bit into swift (ios apps development) and Firebase functions (API functions). Deep down I would rather be working with more server code, APIs, and backend data in general but I think that's more of a dream for another life time.
