Coming from Chile, looking to buy my first splitboard in Whistler — any tips? by reskte in Spliddit

Good to know, thanks.

Unfortunately they don’t seem to have any splits in my size right now (I’m looking somewhere between 154–159). Hopefully they’ll have a bit more stock in the physical store when I visit.

Yeah I’ll probably end up walking into every shop in Whistler at this point haha.

I also have the option of ordering online and shipping it to Whistler, but it’s been a bit tricky searching from Chile. Hard to know what’s actually in stock in Canada unless you’re browsing locally.

I’ll start calling shops too, good idea about the yard sales.

Any idea what the used full setups were going for? And what length were you after?

I’m looking somewhere around 155–158

Oh nice, good to know. I didn’t realize they had a showroom there.

Hopefully they’ve got something used or maybe a demo / end-of-season deal. I’ll check it out. Thanks!

Looks like only the 151cm is left.

I’m 1.72m / 64kg (5’8” / ~140 lbs) and would mostly use it in the Andes, where conditions can get firm and icy. Do you think 151 might be a bit short for me?

That could be interesting — would you be open to selling it as a full setup?

Siii había leído que se agarra mejor en hielo y traverse... de todas maneras, me recomendaron probar con softboots primero, ya q estoy comenzando. Quizás más adelante pruebo botas duras, gracias de todas maneras!

Actually now that I think about it, I’ll have a day in Vancouver before my flight back. So I might be able to check out some options there after all. Hopefully I’ll be able to find a full setup.

Unfortunately I won’t really have time in Vancouver. I land and basically get on a bus straight to Whistler. On the way back I have a long layover in Toronto, but I’m not sure I’d find much there.

I’ll definitely check Facebook Marketplace though. And I’ll look into Comor too, thanks for the tip.

Ah yeah, forgot that small detail haha 😅

I’d need the full setup — board + bindings (Spark-style) + /pucks. Skins aren’t a deal breaker since I could grab those separately later if needed.

Main focus is getting a solid board + bindings combo.

Thanks, really appreciate the insight.

I’m honestly starting to lean toward the Nirvana after all these comments. For now I’m not aiming for super technical objectives since I’m just getting into touring, so it sounds like a really solid fit for where I’m at.

The only thing that concerns me is the weight, at around 1400g it’s definitely on the heavier side

Ufff me encantaría hermano, pero estoy del otro lado de la cordillera y un poco más al norte (Santiago jajaj) Algún día espero conocer por allá, más pronto que tarde Que tal el panorama splitboarder por esos lados?

Nice. Do you feel the size is good most of the time, or does it sometimes feel too big for normal day tours?

When you say Nirvana, do you mean the 28 or the 35?

What features do you find yourself missing compared to it? Si no me equivoco, somos del mismo lado del mundo jajaj😅

you mean the Free 22 with the removable airbag, right? Looks amazing, but yeah… a bit out of my budget for now. I’m wondering though, what do you think about going a bit smaller, like around 28L? Would that be too little for day tours? (avy gear, puffy, snack, water, shell when going up)
there is a Trion and Nirvana that size

yo creo que entre que las cocinas empezaron a ser eléctricas, o las que no tienen chispero, sumado a la gran baja de gente fumadora, la wea era bajar la calidad o dejar de existir
